Robin Van Persie is rated as doubtful for Hollandโ€™s friendly with England this evening after failing to complete training yesterday. The Arsenal skipper felt some discomfort in his groin towards the end of the session and was withdrawn as a precautionary measure.

Van Persie is thought to have initially picked up the problem in the 5-2 win over Spurs on Sunday but, while some reports claim Arsenal were aware of the knock and considered it to be minor, others claim the Gunners were oblivious to any problem.

The player will undergo a fitness test this morning ahead of the clash and it seems if there is any doubt, Van Persie is unlikely to feature. Arsene Wenger has been keen to ensure his captain doesnโ€™t over-exert himself on international duty and the Dutch FA will be unlikely to ire Wenger by fielding Van Persie if the player is at risk.

Dutch boss Bert van Marwijk put a positive spin on the situation, though, claiming Van Persie sat out the rest of training as nothing more than a precautionary measure. Van Marwijk is certainly confident the Arsenal star will feature at Wembley, saying:

We do not take risks with Robin. I did it so that he can play on Wednesday. We will have to wait and see but I don’t think it’s too serious. I am optimistic he will play.

Obviously, any absence on the domestic front would have a major effect on our Fantasy thinking but for now, Van Marwijkโ€™s words should put us at ease. Tonightโ€™s lineup at Wembley will be eagerly anticipated, then.

evening all.....on struggle street and need some advise!

Need to downgrade Sigg to a 4.4 or 4.5m mid.......it will help fund 2 strong moves (free transfers) and put me in decent spot for the next 3/4 game weeks.

    any ideas???????????

Brunt on his way back. Might impact on his gametime? Although I think Andrews replaced the injured Sharner.

The guy you need is called Andrew Surman who plays for Norwich. Guaranteed minutes and knows how to score
Btw you're not gonna actually start a £4.5m midfielder are you? I'm assuming that he's for a solid bench. Good luck

In theory, but I think in practice Valencia will almost always play. Valencia isn't directly replaced by Young because they play on opposite flanks; it really is a choice between Young...CM CM.....Nani and Nani....CM CM....Valencia. Valencia is indispensable there for both tracking back like a RB and bombing forward as a RW. I don't see SAF effectively choosing Young ahead of Valencia.

If they play 4-3-3, Young will be wide left forward with all three playing I think.

Morning! Yeah, he's got RW/RB although the return of Rafael should fill the latter up. Does give more ways for him to be on the pitch of course. He actually delivers points from RB too...

They shouldn't have dropped their heads after Lamps' goal was disallowed but that would have changed the game. It was very unfair it was disallowed, their momentum was completely destroyed after that decision. I think they'll get to the quarters at Euro. They are no Spain but they can restrict world class players if need be. Don't forget they shut out Spain when they beat them in the friendly last year.

I agree it would have been possible to reduce the damage but not change the outcome. The fact we talk about restricting world class players shows we don't really think of ours at the same level and justifiably so. It's clear to anyone we don't meet the Spain/Germany standard of technical ability, passing and movement. The Spain friendly is just another piece of evidence showing our only hope is to shut them out because we're not good enough to play them at their own game. As long as that is our position, we can't be seen as unlucky to progress

good points isacki, i salute you with my sporran. Normally up here we have to listen to idiots like wright claiming how england will win tourney because so and so got a great cross in once, or some other silly reason like that. Although it is possible for some teams to win a tourney based on circumstances and the right fixtures, it is nice to hear an England supporter be more realistic, maybe if those with influence adopted that view, changes would happen to offer you a better chance of winning tourneys.
My belief is england need to completely focus on the tourney, and adopt german approach were everything is geared towards peaking at right moments, even with poorer teams they still do it.
As for us well we are f*cked at every sport

Although i agree England pundits do get carried away. You can't beat the feeling of excitement in an England match. I think it's a shame people are becoming pessimistic about England, it should be about unconditional optimism! I want to be delusional if it means i can enjoy the emotions of a major tournament. Patriotism for the win!

I know what you mean and we can all get behind the team at major tournaments. I just think it might be healthier if we support them with all our lungs but not go through the ritual of pretending we're going to win it then acting really disappointed...

Yeah I would say the silent majority of England supporters know how good the team really is (maybe that why they're a silent majority ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). People have got a lot more realistic after the Germany loss IMO, it was both a spanking and also the effective end of the 'Golden Generation' (ahem).

I think actually England have been performing around their level, they are not underperforming. From 1996 in major tourneys, SF/2R/Group/QF/QF/QF/2R is about right for a team that lies around 8th in the world typically.

        Hey guys,

What do you think is the best back 4 to have from GW 28 onwards:

        1) Reina

        Kompany/Evans/BAE

        2) Friedal

        Kompany/Evans/Johnson

        3) Lindeegard (if fit)

        Kompany/BAE/Johnson

Basically looking at the best way to get Def coverage from MNU,LIV,MCI,TOT, only one def staying is Kompany

        Cheers!

Would love it if we could be sure of a United keeper but sadly I don't think we will be. De Gea however looks the more likely to hold his place as Fergie wants him as the 1st team keeper and he's playing so well.

Out of 1 and 2 I really like 2, Friedel makes a lot of saves and I think Johnson might score more outfield points than BAE. Looking at something very similar myself!

Right, need to try and phrase this right otherwise it'll make no sense!

        A) GW27: HBA>Surman
        GW28: Kompany>Enrique, Welbeck>Rooney

This means I'll keep Hart for a while.

        B) GW27: HBA>5.0 midfielder or less
        GW28: Hart>Reina, Kompany>Enrique, Welbeck>Rooney

gained experience. everyone's argument is "what has he done", and i admittedly would reply, "fair enough". i probably wouldnt get him until gw29-30 so i have time to see if my judgement is poor, because if i didnt have other issues, id be bringing him in next week. Im putting my money where my mouth is, ENR and i have another bet on the table.

Yeah if GW29-30 is the time (which I'm sure it will be for most looking at the fixtures) you've got time to decide. I trust you to actually follow through with the transfer no worries Fuzzy ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am looking at him for around that time conditional on him doing something in FPL by then

Consensus on here seems to say that Squirtle is a better pick than Enrique?
Enrique has averaged a key pass every 83 minutes, Squirtle every 283.
Enrique has averaged a shot every 240 minutes Squirtle every 143 minutes.
Enrique has got a averaged bonus point every 270 minutes, Squirtle every 286.

Doesn't seem to be a huge amount in it to me. Squirtle does offer the greater threat on goal no doubt but he's much less likely to pick up an assist. Also bare in mind that Liverpools finishing has been so dreadful this year that Enrique's key passes have often been wasted so he is under performing in that respect.

        In summary get Glen Johnson.

At their current price I'd go Skrtel all the way if money isn't tight. Liverpool are deadly on set pieces this year and not so much from regular crosses. Enrique has never come close to scoring. I agree that Johnson looks great.

          Or:

Enrique: 2 assists, 0 goals, 8 baps. 14 extra points in total.
Skrtel: 2 goals, 1 assist, 7 baps. 22 extra points in total.
(Johnson: 1 goal, 0 assists, 14 baps. 20 extra points in total)

          Good summary.

I would say everyone talks about Liverpool attacking threat but the actual figures are:

          Player......Goals.......Assists
          Skrtel.......2.............1
          Enrique.....0............2
          Johnson....1............0
          Agger.......0.............1

Pretty crap really, and I can't say any reason to strongly recommend any of them over each other.

It depends how you approach choices on FPL I guess. Using the members stuff I've tended to predict based on past performances in terms of key passes per game, threat rating, attempts etc. rather than making choices based on what their returns have been over the season.

I know that's meant to work but it's week 27 now and if it came to choosing between the two predictors I'd say the actual returns look more solid. I know players should convert opportunities, but I think maybe the problem is that the stats don't distinguish between quality of opportunities that well. One puzzle that's been getting me all season is how Liverpool and Suarez in particular have so many opportunities but score so few. It could just be down to the kind of opportunities they create. Lots of physical, crossing play but not many one on ones.

I would definitely take Valencia then, he was in brilliant FPL form, is more reliable than Nani and he does have the backup of RB to play at (which he still attacks from)

I have to get rid of one of them from my Team on Week 28:

        Who should it be?

stevie G is playing pretty much as a roving 'third' centreback these days, if he got any deeper he would be in goals...his hollywood passes arent coming off so his chances of assists are down..the only thing he he has got going for him at mo is pens (and arsenal do give a lot a way)... but thats about it.

Ok, here she is - my GW28 wildcard team. Trickiest decision is which 2 cheap mids to rotate as Pilks, Siggy and Mclean don't really work together. Best I can come up with is to pair Pilks with Moses (any better rotation options out there?) with the plan of doing Pilks -> Siggy/Mclean around GW33.

Any ideas on how to improve this lot?

        Schwarzer, Mignolet
        Skrtel(vc), Enrique, JEvans, Simpson, Caulker
        Dempsey, Valencia, Walcott, Pilkington, Moses

Ryo and McClean rotate well in terms of opponent difficulty. They are normally at home the same weeks but aside from GW33 and 38 at least one of them is playing a crap team every week.

Can you afford Freidel and Bogdan.
Nice defence as it combines top 6 defenders and others with good fixtures
Midfield is quite bad. Get rid of Walcott. Don't like Pilkington(rotation risk) or Moses(bad fixtures). I think you should get two mid price midfielders around 6.5-7m instead of Walcott and Pilks.
Great forwards though so it makes up for it.

Walcott is my big gamble - he's hit a bit of form and has good short term fixtures - NEW, eve, AVL, qpr.

Moses is one of only a few cheapies that rotates well with Pilks/Siggy/Mclean.

I've had a bit of a reshuffle - this better?

            Schwarzer, Bogdan
            Skrtel, Enrique, JEvans, Kelly, Caulker

I would also have to loose Bale to get either of them in, hence the reason I would like to get in De Gea. With G.Johnson/Skrtel/Evans/Baines/Santon my defenders I can't accomodate another United defender without loosing the above defenders with who I am happy with.

Wait and see who plays in the Europa League next week imo. I think he is probably first choice at the moment but when Lindegaard is fit I can see us playing one keeper in the PL and one in Europa.

I think De Gea is quite likely to play for the run in though with these recent performances as Fergie really wants him for the long term as our first team keeper. As he's playing so well already I can see no reason why he would take him out, even though Lindegaard played excellently before his injury, I can see him being a bench keeper really.

Overall, wait for the Europa game, I reckon that'll sort the rotation headache out. We like playing a keeper in each competition so hopefully Lindegaard will be fit and we can decide whether De Gea is worth 6.2. (I think he is).

I agree. I wont be making the swap until GW 29 anyway. I think he should start most games too if not played in the Europa as surely fergie will want some consistency in his backline. I have Mignolet as my backup keeper so if he missed the odd game it wouldnt be too bad anyway.

I think he has done pretty well in Lindy's absence and will be back to playing most of the games but rested now and then (like at the beginning of the season). He'll be a great keeper given time.

Should people not think a bit more before going with Suarez. You are picking him solely on a DGW rather than any goalscoring form of which he hasn't shown any.

I think he's a decent gamble to have. He's pretty nailed on for LIV and was very unlucky in the first half of the season - hit the woodwork a ridiculous amount of times. Also, his fixtures for the rest of the season are great, so it's not just the DGW for me....

Shipstontrev did you see that we both gambled, I brought in Taiwo (don't ask), you brought in Raylor, and they both got 2 points - and your Raylor went off before the 2nd goal went in so he saved a point! It was a frigging nailbiter, a race to the bottom ๐Ÿ˜€

Not buying into this yet. A fee with Koln hasn't even been agreed. Plus we never sign players we are linked with.

I agree. But Black have done very good offensively this season and N'zonzi has contributed to this. I think an attacking team like arsenal would be a good fit for him. Not exactly the level of quality Arsenal need though.

Why do the English media have such a hard on for the England captaincy? It's so overrated. It hasn't been symbolic of anything since Bobby Moore. It's just another vehicle for the media to write stories and sell papers. There should be more emphasis on building a team capable of competing at major tournaments not who wears the armband. In Italy the armband goes to the most capped player. It keeps things simple and keeps the focus on the important part of the game, winning matches. I thought the amount of chopping and changing Capello did with his captain was embarrassing especially coming from an Italian. The whole thing is a circus.

ROONEY vs top teams this season:

        7, 22, 4, 1, 2, 2, 12, 13.

That's averaging 7.9 points per game against the bigwigs. Wish I could get him this week!

(Yes I know the arsenal game is a bit of stat booster)

Chris Glover did an excellent article about risk and reward and the players that have the potential to explode with points and those that are a steady source of pts.

That shows exactly why Rooney is still a risk...but one arguably worth taking. Good pt scores on three occasions, an ok score once and four lame scores says to me that he is more likely to do poorly.

If Valencia was fit he'd be my top choice from among Man Utd ranks...steady pts scoring, nothing flashy.

Trouble with Rooney is that if he does well and you don't have him the old rank takes one hell of a beating.

I can't see him catching RVP unless he gets injured, but I agree he will be pushing him. As a Rooney owner of many times the last three seasons I've had to put up with a lot of low weekly scores...but when he goes on one of his runs he is a season saver. He certainly saved mine early on this season.

Yeah there is a serious risk of falling behind if you don't have him when he goes on a point crazy rampage. And the fixtures are too good to ignore. United will need to win all their games as I can't see City slipping up too much.

Actually one thing is that since he's explosive and the score is doubled for a captain, the question is how many times does he have to succeed to outscore a reliable captain like Valencia/Silva

I would never captain Valencia or Silva...they are reliable source of 5-10 pts but not much more. My captain choices are for those I think are going to go ballistic pts wise.

Didn't quite work out as planned with Ba last week. ๐Ÿ˜‰
