Carlos Tevez helps City’s reserves to a win over Bolton. John Terry returns to the Chelsea squad ahead of schedule. Jack Rodwell and Phil Jagielka step up their recoveries ahead of Everton’s double gameweek, Victor Moses insists Roberto Martinez was right to drop him last weekend, while Paul Scholes is reported to have missed training for United this morning:

Carlos Tevez continued to build up his fitness as he turned out out for Man City’s reserves yesterday. The Argentine grabbed City’s first in a 3-1 win over Bolton before being subbed off with 20 minutes of the game remaining. Tevez managed 45 minutes for the second string last week- clearly, then, his fitness is building week by week but right now, he still appears to be some way off a return to first-team action, as Roberto Mancini affords him a platform in City’s second string before considering Tevez for league duties.

John Terry was on the bench for Chelsea last night, just two weeks after undergoing knee surgery. The Blue skipper was expected to be out for 4-6 weeks after an investigative operation but has returned quicker than anticipated. He was an unused sub in his side’s 2-0 FA Cup replay win over Birmingham last night but, according to Roberto Di Matteo, is available for action once again:

John has done very well and is determined to help the club, and we’re pleased to see him. He’s available. We have to take him with small steps because he’s done well to come back in just over two weeks. But it was good to see him.

Di Matteo sprung something of a surprise in terms of lineup, with Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Michael Essien all joining Terry on the bench. Many had expected the interim boss to install the likes of Lampard back into the first team following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas, but he instead opted for a 4-2-3-1, with Salomon Kalou wide left, Ramires wide right, and Juan Mata tucked in behind Fernando Torres. Mata missed yet another spot-kick, having fluffed his chances in the first game at Stamford Bridge, but with both Lampard and Drogba on the bench at the time, the Spaniard still looks to be at least third in line for penalties. Ashley Cole missed out in the St Andrews win, having failed to recover from an ankle problem. Ryan Bertrand took his place at left-back, though the former is expected to be available for the home clash with Stoke on Saturday.

Jack Rodwell and Phil Jagielka both managed 90 minutes for Everton’s reserves yesterday. The pair haven’t featured for the first-team since limping out of the first match of double gameweek 20 back in January but, having recovered from knee and hamstring injuries respectively, could be on the verge of a first-team return.Reports suggest the likeliest date is the FA Cup clash with Sunderland on March 17, with David Moyes perhaps reluctant to rush either back, with his side’s six-match unbeaten league run –including wins over City and Chelsea- indicative of the Toffees form right now.

Victor Moses admitted Roberto Martinez made the right decision in starting him from the bench last weekend against Swansea. The Wigan managers’ decision was publicly questioned by chairman Dave Whelan after the match, with Mohamed Diame and Hugo Rodallega also listed amongst the subs in the 2-0 home loss. Moses –who had started every one of the Latics league matches prior to last weekend- sprung to his manager’s defence, conceding that his midweek international commitments had left him fatigued:

I was feeling tired after being away with Nigeria. I’d done a lot of travelling in a short space of time- the fans probably don’t realise that travelling so far for a game in midweek really does take it out of you, out of your legs especially. A couple of the other lads were the same – only getting back on Friday evening – and when you’re going out with tired legs, that’s when you’re risking getting injuries – which the gaffer is trying to prevent.

Reports suggest both Paul Scholes and Michael Owen missed training this morning for United ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League home clash with Athletic Bilbao. Chris Smalling has returned to full training after recovering from his recent head knock sustained in England’s friendly defeat to Holland, while Antonio Valencia did some light running away from the first-team squad.

Karl Henry has been ruled out for 3-4 weeks after scans revealed he has picked up a hamstring injury. The midfielder was subbed off early in the 5-0 hammering at Fulham and, with Terry Connor also admitting Dave Edwards is “probably” out of this weekend’s crucial home clash with Blackburn, David Davis has been recalled from a loan spell with Chesterfield on Monday. Connor revealed he will have no qualms over throwing Davis straight into action against Rovers if necessary:

He’s ready and he’s training well, so if I think he’s ready to play in our first team, that’s where he has to play. He deserves to come back, and, if we’re light in midfield, we’ll consider him.

His "threat" is rated as nearly twice that of Enrique over the season so far, but it just hasn't really materialised in points. I personally don't see the extra outlay worth it, you're really looking for CS from Liverpool defenders, and they are both guaranteed starts.

No stats, but more than likely Skrtel will play both games.

There's a chance of Kelly coming in at right back and Johnson moving over the left back. Kenny's done that a few times this season.

For any long suffering fellow Fletcher owners.

This latest from Wolverhampton says to me that Fletcher is going to be benched for a while. Connor clearly favours Doyle.

    Ok, the Suarez issue.

Here is my two penneth if anyone is interested:

If you can get him in for Ba for free (and then easily get Ba back next week), go for it.

He looked very lively against Arsenal and Sun(A)/Eve(H) is far better than Ars(A) as far as I can see.

If you're looking at bringing him in for a hit, I think that's questionable. If you're bringing him in for Rooney or RVP you are categorically insane.

I also would not captain him over either of those two.

        That's what I'm saying.

If there's no jigging involved and you can just do a straight swap (and subsequent swap back), I think he's potentially value over Ba for this week only.

For you there would be lost money and re-jigging, therefore I wouldn't bother.

A lot of people selling Ba and Suarez is top of the captain poll. Hmm... That wasn't my intention and I didn't think that was the real option, but now reconsidering. The masses has to now something right? Especially this time of the year, with all the casual already giving up.

The thing is that my both transfers for forwards Kun and Ba recently weren't profitable at all. Kun one goal, Ba nothing. Hmm.... What to do?

Think people just getting excited about DGW.

Of all the strikers for both teams, he's the one of any value.

Believe Adebayor was high on people's lists last DGW and flopped?

Everton are the 4th best defence in the league for goals conceded and Sunderland are 5th.

Suarez has never scored 2 in a game for Liverpool I believe?

Agree to an extent - firstly, I think Sunderland will miss Cattermole and his cover of the back four vs Liverpool and I think that will be a factor that will benefit Suarez. As for Everton - it's a derby - anything is possible. I don't think we can count on form and stats too much.

Secondly, the obvious benefit of having a dgw player you're 2 points up immediately. Suarez will likely score 4 points without any returns unless he's booked. That obiously means that any striker selected will have to return in order to beat his tally.

The other possible benefit for Suarez is that, following the double, he's got QPR and Wigan. So, if he does well over the double, suddenly he becomes a very decent asset. Will those who missed his double points then get him for QPR and Wigan? Maybe or maybe the wounded pride will keep them away.

It's all ifs and buts but, personally, I've gone with Suarez with the WC. Not sure if I'll captain him though.

By the way, Granville once mentioned that 2 in a game stat for Suarez. 24 hours later, Suarez got two in the Carling Cup at Stoke. Now you've rolled it again, he's bound to get a brace 😉

The best thing in real terms that could happen would be at the pre match handshakes for the Everton players to instead offer Suarez an ironic Nazi salute while putting their index finger Hitler-moustache-like under their noses. I think even grumpychops Suarez would find the funny side.

"firstly, I think Sunderland will miss Cattermole" - one of your esteemed colleagues recently looked into the form of Sunderland's defence with and without Clattermole and concluded that they did fine without him. It was in the latest suspension tightrope, I believe.

          I retract my 2 in a game stat 😉

Oh don't get my wrong, there is some value in him and if on a wildcard then I would be considering.

But a lot of people are taking hits to get him in though, so technically they are 2 points down on him already (assuming Ba plays).

Plus he's not being viewed as punt, but just a goal machine.

I like Suarez for the next few. Double GW then QPR then Wigan at Anfield. He's gone after that but I really like captaining a double GW player in a dgw and as far as I can see, he's the only real option.

I've got rid of Aguero and stuck with Ba for now - Ba and/or Suarez to Rooney and a downgrade in the next few weeks.

After swearing never again to bring Suarez in to my team I have begrudgingly done precisely that. Reason:

      1) He started to deliver the second half of last season
      2) 'tis the stage of the season to take a few gambles

He's only a short term punt for me (to be replaced by Ade in GW30 for the run in ). Skrtel and Reina on the other hand are in for the season.

In fairness the law of averages were always going to have him scoring the second half of last season.

He only signed in January 2011 and didn't make his debut until February 😀

I've (perhaps foolishly?) already done the following for a 4 pt hit:

Richards, Sessegnon, Aguero --> Enrique, Nani, Suarez

But I needed the Richards downgrade as part of that move.

I think it's a close call but particularly with Richards not playing the following week now, I think it could be worth it with Liverpools kind fixtures after the double.

I'll say Suarez ... to be different. I think it'll be very close though but for the £ difference, this week alone I'm in the Suarez camp.

I thought Rooney looked pretty deep vs Spurs .. yeah he got his goal but I'm not sure he looked at his best.

Ok so Suarez didn't score vs Arsenal but if he plays as he did vs Arsenal again, he's pretty likely to score.

only positive i can think of for barney suarez is he shouldn't end up with a 2 pointer. problem is barney will inevitably cost you another transfer to get him out soon so i'd deduct a hypothetical 4 points from any calculation

Recommend a cheap midfielder for 5.2 or less. I have the lovely Siggy already. This is a replacement for Sessegnonegnon. McClean?

as much as im fond of liverpools defence i think youd be better off going for rooney and myachi/surman and just taking a 4pt hit

and i hadnt even thought of that combo Tosey. been sucked into Reina/Enrique/Skrtl, Suarez, Drenthe options.

He was excellent towards the end of last season, I think that was more to do with trying to impress to get out of the sinking ship that was Wigan. Him being subbed the other day after scoring could force the same efforts though. A viable option.

with minutes i'm confident he'll do well, that's the issue though the minutes mccleaish gives him. he's been like drenthe lately regularly grabbing goals and assists with pitch time but then getting subbed and benched

I'm in corp so i'm fairly busy with march year ends ... feeling a bit sorry for myself though so can't be chewed today ... just means I'll have more to do tomorrow though!

Problem is, when you're on here you can think too much about FF - which is bad when you've already taken a 4 pt hit!

Tru dat, although we don't usually get our March year end stuff until after the March year end. So I'll be pretty busy around June.

I just thought that he's got at least 4 points guaranteed from 180 minutes. That's already 8 from my captain, 3 saves in each game is also pretty likely so that's 12 points from my captain. The same as if RVP got one goal. Add a clean sheet and it's already been more than worthwhile!

Maybe it's too maverick, but I'm trying to rebuild bridges with this move also. Still don't think I've been forgiven for bailing on the Baines captaincy!
