Our Watchlist rankings have now been updated and are available in the right-menu bar. City take a tumble as Liverpool’s assets are boosted by their impending double fixtures, sending Roberto Mancini’s expensive heavyweights – fresh from warming the bench on Saturday – down the rankings. United’s obliging schedule also plays its part, as we assess the champions’ burgeoning potential at both ends of the pitch and switch our allegiance to the red side of Manchester…

Goalkeepers

The goalkeeper ratings are as volatile as ever. The movement sees Bolton’s Adam Bogdan emerge as an unlikely source of Fantasy interest, as the Trotters enter a prolonged phase of favourable opponents. At just 4.0, Bogdan is the cheapest active keeper available and he’s also in strong form, having made a string of saves in his last two games at Chelsea and Man City. Given his price, form and fixtures, Bogdan looks to be a strong asset to free up funds for investment elsewhere in our squads and can feasibly be fielded for the next five matches. If you don’t trust Bolton on their travels, Bogdan rotates nicely with Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer, who will entertain Norwich and Swansea in the Gameweeks that find the Trotters man on his travels.

If you’re looking for a one-stop shop, then United’s David De Gea offers an alternative route to a run of matches that will surely see continued defensive returns. The Spaniard has found some form of late and with Anders Lindegaard still sidelined, he looks clear to start through till Easter. Jonny Evans is still the preferred option in Sir Alex Ferguson’s rearguard, but De Gea offers a secure double-up option.

Defenders

Jonny Evans topples Vincent Kompany at the top of the defender ranks, despite Roberto Mancini’s side achieving a superb run of six clean sheets in eight league games. Fixtures now stiffen for Kompany and his defence and, feasibly, we could now see them struggle for Fantasy returns. There’s also the issue of the blank fixture, currently looming in Gameweek 29. Certainly we’d expect to see a dip in profit – enough to allow Evans to surpass Kompany as the preferred defensive option. United’s fixtures are amongst the strongest around over the next month, with the trip to City the only major test of Ferguson’s backline, right up to the end of the season.

It’s no surprise to see both Martin Skrtel and Jose Enrique fare well. The double fixture plays its part – a trip to Sunderland without the pace and trickery of Stephane Sessegnon offers immediate clean sheet potential, while even a highly fuelled Merseyside derby could see profit for Skrtel and co at Anfield. There’s little argument to carry both into the Gameweek – with strong fixtures to follow, there will be no hurry to rid yourself of Liverpool’s defensive assets, although we would all feel more comfortable had Dan Agger been fit to partner the Slovakian in the heart of the back four over this spell.

The Tottenham defence is another worthy option, with strong home fixtures against Stoke, Swansea and Norwich to come in the next five. Benoit Assou-Ekotto is the weapon of choice here – he enjoys a climb this week and could rank higher once Saturday’s trip to Everton is out of the way.

With United and Liverpool and possibly Spurs, looking the most likely options from now until the end of the season at the back, and with City’s defensive record a factor, it could be that we have only a couple of spots to fill in our defence. Budget options, with Swansea’s Steven Caulker, Stoke’s Andy Wilkinson, West Brom’s Gareth McAuley and Fulham’s Aaron Hughes, could well be the order of the day then. The latter benefits from Stephen Kelly’s thigh injury that finds him still a doubt for a recall when the Cottagers travel to Aston Villa this weekend. Hughes may well have cemented a starting role, having featured ahead of Philippe Senderos for the previous two, before shifting to right-back to cover for Kelly against Wolves. We need to monitor that situation, with the Fulham defence still amongst the best mid-to-low bracket punts on offer.

Midfielders

Gareth Bale’s position at the top of the midfielder rankings is certainly in question following absence through injury and illness but strong fixtures for Spurs maintain him for now. Sessegnon falls from grace from our top five, while Clint Dempsey only strengthens his hold following his brace against Wolves – fixtures remain favourable for the American.

It’s the United duo of Ashley Young and Nani that enjoy the biggest climbs to factor amongst our top selections. While Nani is still struggling for consistency following his recent spell on the sidelines, Young’s form is flourishing on his return to the United starting lineup. Antonio Valencia will muddy the waters once he’s fit and available but, there’s little doubt that Fantasy managers need to consider one of the trio of United midfield options, given the menu of fixtures in front of them.

David Silva, with tougher opponents on the horizon, suffers a dip then, as does Sunderland’s James McClean who may struggle for output in Sessegnon’s absence. That leaves the door open for climbers such as Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson with strong form and Bolton’s prospect Ryo Miyaichi, with outstanding fixtures. We’ve more on him to come.

Forwards

While Robin Van Persie won’t be shifted at the top of the rankings, Wayne Rooney is pushing him hard with a favourable run of opponents that will surely see him gain steady profit over the final months. His ascent and the double Gameweek for Luis Suarez has Sergio Aguero and Demba Ba falling down our list – both have tougher fixtures in front of them and are under serious threat from the outstanding value offered by Fulham’s Pavel Pogrebnyak. The Russian has attracted huge investment this week as Fantasy managers look to ride his form, although, even at 6.2, it’s hard to justify his inclusion ahead of our top three given their schedules, particularly if Dempsey is settled in your midfield.

Mario Balotelli could be the one to watch lower down the rankings – he’s scored in both league games for City since returning from suspension. Although Suarez has strong fixtures in front of him, should the Uruguayan fail to return of the double Gameweek, Balotelli would offer a straight swap and a route in to City’s attacking potential with change to spare for investment elsewhere. Right now, that looks an attractive option if we can be sure that the Italian will get regular minutes in Mancini’s lineup. Given Saturday’s experience, that’s not something we can take for granted.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Funky, I'm actually keeping my fingers crossed we don't get Jose.

Don't wanna see the Platinum Club (JT, Lamps, Cole, Drog, etc.) sign a 5 year contract extension 😉

he wont do that, but he will phase them out respectfully. Would you rather Jose went to City/Utd/Liverpool???

If we want to bring through the kids then we need to be prepared to spend a couple of seasons out of the champs league and we should get a manager who puts faith in youth.

If we want to win the league/champs league then we need Jose.

There is no way that Lampard should be out of the team in place of Meireles. Same with JT and Cahill and Drogba and Torres. If the replacements coming in offer something more then great (like Ramires, Luiz)

Jose will play the best team each week

          He is a winner

PS hope Bertrand gets a little run now in the easier games, looked good last night.

            Just pulling your leg, bud.

Honestly which Chelsea fan wouldn't want Jose? Bob Paisley once said "The only good football is winning football" It would be a dream come true. Hopefully Roman can let go off his ego and apologize for Jose's sacking.

If we can't Jose back, I can see Moyes or Soddle doing a great job for us. Both of them are/were wonderful tacticians, which is what we need at the moment.

I think that's a rubbish quote. Football in the end is about winning but 'good' football if about so much more.

              I prefer the view of Tottenham legend Danny Blanchflower;

'The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.'.

I hate Moyes! He is always way too cautious! Look at Saha, never played him in case he picks up a knock, he goes to Spurs and ...! Then with the exception of last week, he always benches his most creative and prolific winger, Drenthe!

I think Everton could be a top 7 club if he wasn't always so extra careful!

^^^ This will never happen with Roman in charge.

I don't think Jose would go back without a lot of unlikely concessions from Abramovich. Anyway for years Chelsea have been struggling to dismantle the myth and legend of Mourinho and the team he put together. Is reappointing him the answer?

            He is a winner though.

agree with your first point which does beg the question why we bother with an academy at all.

Secondly, I believe he is the answer, every manager that has come in since Jose has basically played the same team/formation with a tweak here and there and none have been as successful. Also it would stop him going to a rival which I would hate to see!

End of season, Jose in, Torres, Malouda, Bosingwa, Meireles OUT

                Hmmmmm 🙄

And what happens in a year, 2 or if you're lucky 3 year's time when Jose has had enough and leaves you in the same position again? Are you gonna fumble along for a few years and then try and get Jose back again?

He is a legend there and he will win you things so it's a good fit. I also agree it would be tough to see him be successful at one of your rivals, all I'm saying is be careful of his scorched earth policy, you may get burned again.

Ancelotti was the way forward imo.

With the disclaimer that it doesn't include City, United, Norwich, Swansea, Wigan and West Brom it's interesting that Liverpool are ranked 2nd and 4th most likely to keep a clean sheet and 3rd and 5th most likely to score this week.

I imagine United will go in top of both of those and City probably rank 3rd most likely to score but Liverpool are still well up there for both fixtures - perhaps treating Everton and Sunderland as a reasonably difficult double isn't quite true?

As a Liverpool supporter I'm feeling quite good about those two games. Sunderland away is the type of fixture Liverpool gets a win in this season, Sunderland are weakened as well and a derby match raises our game. The only problem is the lack of any definite fantasy options apart from defense. I think I'm going Suarez but really anyone can get the goals/assists.

Probably a pointless post but some may find it interesting? Liverpool DGW scores in alternate fixtures V SUN/eve

    Reina - 11
Sktrel - 6 (Didnt play Sun so add 2)
    Enrique - 13
GJ - Played neither (min 8 if he did)
    Adam - 7
Gerrard - 1 (Only came on as sub V eve)
    Suarez - 13

In Summary I think Reina could be a great option for his save points plus potential clean sheets (Captain Fratboy? 22 points?) Suarez scored 2 goals in these weeks and still only scored 13 points which RVP/Rooney could quite easily get in a SGW! A Pool defender is definitely worthwhile with high potential to score double digit scores but then we know all this already and both Sun and Eve have improved since the start of the season, sorry for wasting your time.

Interesting facts. I also believe Liverpool will suffer the carling cup curse. Teams tend to dip after winning it getting the sense of end of season celebrations. A home defeat to Arsenal isn't exactly shameful but it could be a start to a very bad few weeks. Birmingham style.

8 points better? Both moves would be for hits, but I am prepared to take a risk as I am 55 points behind mini-league leader and he doesnt have Holt or Rooney

Just worried that Aguero will score as well as Rooney this week, and whether it would be better waiting a week to do the Aguero->Rooney bit...

Final place in wildcard team is upfront and can go to Pog or Holt.
Those in and around me in mini league have Pog, so should I play safe and have him in, or take a gamble on Holt?
Pogs form in 3 games is immense, but I have Dempsey already and surely Pog cannot keep going at the rate he has been? (5 goals from 5 shots).
Holt is a punt, but has the fixtures short term.
    Any advice?

Even if they do not keep a clean sheet then all 3 should still get 4 points minimum, so still not worst thing in the world. Plus Pool then have QPR away and Wigan at home which are strong fixtures. Who else for clean sheets over this period? City have one less game than Pool and tougher fixtures (+ rotation and Europe and possible blank). Utd one game less and I already have my utd quota. Spurs still a couple of tough fixtures and I have BAE as cover anyway.

I am convinced by Pool triple up.... also the pricing allows for changes later on back to City defenders as their fixtures ease, if required.

More concerned with having to stick Ferguson in there to be honest, but can't have it all.

Don't see much risk really. Risky not to when they have two games, and everybody else has one. Should be minimum 12 points between the 3 players, which I think is perfectly fine from a defender in a gamweek, and could obviously be a lot more if things go well.

Not a popular opinion around here but I think it's far too early to decide that Pog is great. A hat-trick against Wolves doesn't say a right lot to me about his talent. I could probably score against Wolves at the moment. Less controversially, Nani is so temperamental he could just stop delivering for another long spell (as he has twice already this season). So I would say A but I don't think Drenthe is worth anything. McClean / Siggy? Can you afford Song, who could be worth a punt?

More people are getting in Suarez than Rooney so Suarez's price rise may give you an extra 0.1 in case he rises a bit more. You may need to make the transfer early in the GW though.
