Roy Hodgson looks set to rotate his squad for the remainder of the season. Alan Pardew is confident of a return for Cheick Tiote this weekend, though is less certain on Ryan Taylor. Martin O’Neill has a few injury concerns ahead of this evening’s trip to Blackburn, while Roberto Mancini is set to give Carlos Tevez a bench role at the Etihad against Chelsea tomorrow night.

Roy Hodgson offered an insight into his selection strategy for the remainder of the season – a policy that won’t be welcomed by us Fantasy managers. Having navigated his side away from the trapdoor of relegation, Hodgson has expressed his intent to utilise his squad from this point on…

We’re looking upwards and I’m looking to use the whole of the squad…People can expect a few changes in the coming nine games rather than me just playing the same 11 each week because, as we saw, people like Scharner, who came in for Andrews, and people like Long, who came in for Fortune, are available.

This will likely see heavy rotation, with the midfield and attack looking particularly cloudy. The likes of Jerome Thomas, Chris Brunt and perhaps recent Fantasy favourite James Morrison could all be prone to rotation, while Shane Long, Peter Odemwingie and Marc-Antoine Fortune are all set to compete for the forward roles – with the possibility that Hodgson will continue with a lone striker strategy.

The back four could also rotate at the full-back positions, although both Gareth McAuley and Jonas Olsson look likely everpresents and are set to have their partnership restored for the visit of Newcastle this weekend.

Newcastle’s top four ambitions are set to be boosted by the return of Cheick Tiote for the visit to the Hawthorns. Alan Pardew seems confident that the combative midfielder will be in contention, having missed the narrow win over Norwich at the weekend. James Perch was drafted into central midfield for the Canaries match on Sunday in Tiote’s absence, with Yohan Cabaye moving out wide to cover the flank as a result of Jonas Gutierrez’s shift to left-back.

The Magpies boss is less confident on Ryan Taylor’s chances – the top owned FPL defender has missed Newcastle’s last two matches due to a calf injury. Pardew is hopeful of a return for Taylor against Liverpool on April 1.

Taylor’s return will be interesting, given that Pardew has shuffled his resources of late. The decision to hand Gutierrez the left-back berth against Norwich was a major surprise, as Davide Santon dropped to the bench. Taylor could well see a return to left-back then, with Hatem Ben Arfa perhaps cementing regular starts on the right-flank, competing with Gabriel Obertan. Santon’s potential as a Fantasy asset currently looks far from guaranteed.

North-East rivals Sunderland are reportedly set to go into tonight’s trip to Ewood Park with doubts surrounding the fitness of both Phil Bardsley and Seb Larsson; Kieran Richardson is also thought to be a major doubt with some reports suggesting he is ruled out.

Bardsley’s rib injury, sustained in the cup tie at Goodison on Saturday, is set to hand a debut to Sotirios Kyrgiakos, with John O’Shea likely to shift to right-back. Larssson’s possible absence could open the way for a return for David Vaughan, who came off the bench in the 1-1 with Everton. Stephane Sessegnon will serve the last of his three-match ban in tonight’s game, while Lee Cattermole will complete his suspension in the home clash with QPR at the weekend.

Blackburn will go into tonight’s game with just Vince Grella on the sidelines. Steve Kean has been boosted by the return to fitness of both Bradley Orr and David Dunn and the duo could be line to start against the Black Cats.

Carlos Tevez is set to make the bench for City’s Etihad clash with Chelsea tomorrow evening. Reports today state that striker has impressed in training with Roberto Mancini ready to turn to the Argentine to help revive the title challenge. Joleon Lescott is reportedly poised to return to to bolster the City backline – the centre-half is hopeful of a return to full training today, after being sidelined with a groin problem for a fortnight. Both Gareth Barry and Pablo Zabaleta are expected to be available, as the injuries ease ease for Mancini. Unfortunately for the City boss, Vincent Kompany is set to miss out tomorow. The Belgian has undergone intensive treatment on a calf injury but has failed to recover in time, with question marks also raised against the likelihood of his availability for the weekend game against Stoke. If Lescott makes it for tomorrow, Mancini will be set to choose between Stefan Savic and Kolo Toure in the heart of the City defence, with a newly confident Fernando Torres possibly lining up in opposition.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It's between Caulker and Holt for my last starting place. Caulker should be in on merit as Holt has been non existent. Everton are far from prolofic and I dread missing out on yet another good week from Caulker. Holt playing poorly but playing Wolves who are horrible right now.

    Caulker or Holt??

Ha, of course this is true. And of course it is well played to people who had Caulker/Siggy as first sub. I put him third sub - Fulham are pretty decent at home and I thought it very unlike them to do so poorly. In hindsight I should have started Caulker but Id probably do the same again if given the chance!

I followed the advice of FFS on the Caulker v Kelly debate. Seeing as they went with Schwarzer in nets for the picks I figured they fancied Fulham to have more chance of the CS.

Yes they were wrong but you can't get em all right. More often than not, their advice is fantastic even if it doesn't always reap the right results.

Anyhow who would have thought Swansea could have played their expansive passing game so well on that tiny Craven Cottage pitch?

Sorry to say ENR, but that actually does make me feel better.

What makes me feel worse is that my mini league leader seems to have an inordinate amount of good luck in terms of bench/subs, and players like Shotton and Vorm pulling off undue cleanies just when he needs them to.

Having started Vorm vs City took the cake for me

ok this may be a little too much to ask. I have Siggy's points coming off the bench for me. I have Caulker 2nd sub, but in order to get those points I need one of Bale, RvP, McLean or Skrtel not to play. Surely there's no chance?

I have defeat or victory riding on this, if McLean plays I need him to score 5 points or more to win my Europa tie this week. If McLean didn't play I'd have Caulker's points which would guarantee me victory.

Secondary question. Can you see McLean and Skrtel outscoring BAE and ShawX (and McLean and Siggy outscoring, Henderson, Yaya, BAE and Yak)

    Sorry for the re-post:

    Right…..I am struggling!

    Bale Velencia Dempsey Sigurdsson Pilko
    RVP Rooney Ba

I have 1 free transfer and 3.1 in the bank.

I want to get rid of either Ba/Pilko, so I either have 11.0 to spend on a forward or 8.4 to spend on a mid.

    Susstions would be very welcome.

I have thought of the following:

    a.Ba>>>>Suarez
    b.Ba>>>>Adebayor
    c.Ba>>>>Balotelli
    d.Pilko>>>>Song
    e.Pilko>>>>Yaya

I don't think there is much value in midfielders for £8.4 or less apart from Siggy. Yaya is a bit of a 3 point specialist.

I say you downgrade Pilkington to Surman who seems to play nearly every week. If you don't want any more Canaries look at McClean or Miyachi and focus on upgrading Ba to Suarez, Adebayor or Drogba.

So yet again GJ is out. This will be 4th match in a row he's missed and the 4th match ive had him for (I swapped him for Caulker 🙠)

I want another expensive defender and with injury/rotation issues for the Chelsea back line I think Vermaelen seems the best bet for attacking potential (already have Skrtel & Baines).

I have noticed alot of people on here talking up Sagna over Vermaelen, is this mainly due to price?

If price was not an issue would Vermaelen be a better choice over Sagna?

I wouldn't be gone on Verm myself, I'm either gonna wait a week and get Komp back in for City's run of SUN/WBA/nor/wol or do what FB said below and get Caulker. That'd be for € league reasons though

Not a bad call on Kompany actually. I somehow had forgotten about him.

The only thing that makes me want Verm is his attacking threat against a run of AVL, qpr, wol, WIG.

One thing to note about Vermaelen is that only 1 of his bonus points (10 in total) have been in a game where he hasn't scored which I thought was quite interesting as I thought he would have had some decent key stats for bonus.

I swapped him for Caulker ðŸ™

      OUCH.

Sagna/Vermaelen are both great picks for that price. I'd be looking to downgrade him though as you already have Skrtel and Baines that's more than enough money to have in defence. Can you find it within yourself to transfer him back out to Caulker? I know that'd be VERY hard to do.

        BIG ouch ðŸ™

TBH I was planning on swapping out Santon (dodgy playing time recently) for Caulker.

The expensive defense is a strategy I am trying at the minute. I am playing 4 at the back each week and using Mata/Dempsey on a home rotation schedule to free up the extra midfield slot.

I had hoped the Liverpool double would work (Skrtel+GJ) but I also want attacking threat so I don't fancy swapping GJ to Enrique.

Terry would be my ideal pick, however after looking at Chelsea's fixtures coming up I think he will be rotated, plus he is now injured.

Does Verm look a decent bet otherwise?

I have G Johnson, but also have Richards.

I don't fancy Liverpool to keep a clean sheet tomorrow so GJ was my final sub anyway.

Hopefully will be fit for the weekend.

Once he's fit I think Richards then needs to go first.

And I have the exact same question.

      Sagna or Vermaelan.

I am leaning towards Vermaelan at the moment, but not sure.

I don't see Clint getting anything away at United Wigan are home at if anyone will do something for them it'll be Moses and you cover all bases that way. I benched Siggy and Caulker on the basis of playing Clint and Schwarzer, look how that turned out.

been ticking over transfers for the next 3 weeks,

    planning:

    Drenthe > Sess (GW 30)
    Ba > Balotelli (GW 31)
    Schwarzer > Friedel (GW 32)

plugged them in just there and have come up an agonising 0.1 short!

can't see anyone involving in the latter two transfers moving favourably either. should have got siggy on saturday before the rise!

do the above transfers make sense? it means keeping Walters and not getting Sess back in, after this weekend Stoke have good fixtures.

Looks good to me. I'm considering Ronaldo but it affects the rest of the team so badly.

To be honest I have Ronaldo/Gomez/Messi up front it does affect the team but I do think its worth it. Now its just a matter of trying to get the best from the money I've got.

My advice would be to leave one or 2 cheapies in so you can afford a good team in the latter stages.
Other than that I would says Kaka is not a good idea. All else is good.

    Krul, Vorm
    Lescott, Enrique, Evans, Caulker, Santon
    Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Sigurdsson, McClean
    RVP, Rooney, Ba

    1 FT, 2.5 in bank

How should I use my free? Dempsey to Walcott? Get rid of Ba? Upgrade Santon?

      Pretty nice I must say.
Only issue I see at all is Ba. But I cant see alot of replacement options for him tbh.

Totally agree with you.....decided to give him one more week then he's out of there....possibly to Adebayor if I can shift things around!

No idea, but from a purely FPL perspective, it wont make one bit of difference for me. The last thing I want to do is to load up on Villa or Bolton players. That's worse than Everton having a DGW.

Spent the day under the assumption that at least one of the big three games this week (Arse, Pool, City) would be this eve. How disappointing to realise that they are all tomo. Will now have to make do with watching Blackburn Vs Sunderland this eve. Don't have any players in. Will have to make do with cheering on mclean to get sent off in order to catch up from rival.

Will be backing Blackburn definately. Aside the McClean issue, I would very much like B'Burn to stay up. The abuse dished out to Kean is vile and completely out of order. For that reason I would like him to keep them up, then leave and take on the England job, win the Euros and then stick a massive middle finger up at the haters.
Ok, so the last bit is unlikely, but he should keep them up and then resign.
