As one cup competition edges towards the finish line, the Paddy Power Cup VI is just getting into gear. Some 512 Fantasy managers pitted their wits against each other in the Gameweek 30 first round and here are the results.

Four of our five previous winners safely negotiated a passage into round two – donnelyc defeated jon13597493 61 – 50, Jonty ran away a 46 – 38 winner against Mull, Ninja_Fit_Saints breezed past Marvellus 54 – 40, and reigning champ sleepingmaster dismissed Tommyboy 58 – 52.

Missing the grade was Paddy Power Cup III winner, Gooner dave, who succumbed 50 – 46 to ralphypne.

On to the second round, and the full set of 128 fixtures can be viewed right here.

Aside from Jonty, Mark and myself (Akers 41* – 41 07warrel – casual) are the sole Scout representatives still in the competition, and have pulled out of the hat Sheffield Rules and Fenners respectively.

All ties to be played across the upcoming Gameweek 31. Good luck to everyone with a fixture this weekend, and commiserations to those leaving the competition at this stage.

So who is everyone rolling with so far for the double? My current crop is:

Friedal, Baines, Kelly, Bale, Ryo, Ade

Will be looking to replace Kelly at some point but no one jumping out yet.

Bale, BAE, possibly Dempsey (already got them)

Looking to get Ryo, Bogdan, Baines as well

I think more than six would lead to problems in gwk 34 or points hits.

Its win win with Baines as if he isn't a double player in gwk 36, he's more than likely to play in gwk34.

It's a bit silly to say with certainty you'll have any players for the double. Firstly it's 5 weeks away and a lt can change. Secondly, the midweek double matches will be played 3 or 4 days before the FA Cup final. So for instance if Spurs reach it, you can bet Arry will rest at least half his XI against Bolton. If it's Chelsea and they reach the CL semis they'll have been playing every midweek and weekend from GW34 onwards.

Exactly - it's all good planning for 5 weeks away but something could happen this weekend that could put those plans to waste.

Nadal v Murray in the SF of the Miami Masters today. Murray has won 6 of the last 8 between the two on hard court.

Currently have Bogdan/Reina. Neither will play in 34 and so this justifies using freebie now to lose Reina (something I am happy to do since I already have Skrtel).. Can't really see past Hart for this. Make sense? Hart can play 31, 32, 33, 34 and then Bogdan 35 DGW and 36 DGW.

Any better options? Should I wait for news on Stoke in 34? If that game remains in 34 then Begovic would also do fine as a cheaper option.

    Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Sigurdsson, McClean
    RvP, Ba, Rooney

2FT. 3.9 in the bank and still have my wildcard. I have no idea where to start planning for GW34 and GW36. Any one have any suggestions of where i can start?

I'm thinking Ba > Adebayor and Shotton > Spurs defender this week and whilst that gives me no more GW34 cover, i'm not really sure who i should be trading out to get it.

Morning chaps. I’ve got 4 FTs between now and GW34 which will allow me to have 11 players (no subs) for that week.

    What would you prefer?

A: Walcott, Vermy, Caulker and 5.2 defender

B: Siggy, Vermy, Sagna and Caulker

If A, what defender from the teams playing in GW34 would you suggest? I’d have Rangel but that would give me 3 Swans in my back 5. Maybe McAuley?

5.2 could be Gibbs - if he keeps Santos out.

Very tough dilemma. I've got Walcott, Verm, Siggy and Caulker at the moment.

I think the main thing 34 is to have 3 Utd, 3 Ars and maybe 3 Swans.

Might be a bit overkillish. Hard to get out of if form at the back wavers. I'd rather Siggy anyway - much more potential. There's also a shout for Graham as 3rd striker round that time.. Oo-er!

I spent a few points to achieve it though - it's like an addiction...

However, with so many cut-price bargains usually being around i'm not going to take points hits next year to try and build value. Did me well last year - but has hindered me this year.

Kompany has potential, but Skrtel has dgw36. Be wary of getting rid and then wanting to get him back. That would be foolish.

On the other hand, if your sorted for gw36 defenders without Skrtel then by all means give him the boot.

Quick poll. What would you go for?

    a) Ba > Cisse
    b) Ba > Ade
    c) Silva> Walcott

      I'd go for C - mainly because Walcott's got a game in GW34. I'd possibly go for B otherwise.

I know - but my preference out of those 3 would be C because Walcott's also playing in GW34, i.e. i wouldn't put a player in without a game in GW34 (i need all my FTs just to get me 11 for that week).

first of all, i love you guys. secondly, i hate you guys.

i used to be a casual player. albeit a crap, low ranking casual player.

now i'm seeing all this DGW speculation flying around with limitations here and squad rotations there and it made my mind boggle so much that i've just made a spreadsheet for my squad with different permutations on who to bring in and when.

i NEVER plan that far ahead because it always goes tits up through injury and suspension. but here i am. addicted to FPL....

    Team for this gw;
    Howard
    Evans Richards Shawcross Skrtel
    Bale Miyaichi Valencia
    Rvp(c) Rooney Ba

    Subs: Vorm Siggurddson McClean Simpson

The list of transfers I wana do to prepare my team for gw 34 are Skrtel/Shawcross/Richards -> Turner/Caulker/Vermaelen. And maybe McClean -> Walcott.
Gonna keep Howard because he should have a dgw on 36 also correct?

Out of those transfers, Skrtel -> Vermaelen would be the best one to do this week! Good plan for now?
