As one cup competition edges towards the finish line, the Paddy Power Cup VI is just getting into gear. Some 512 Fantasy managers pitted their wits against each other in the Gameweek 30 first round and here are the results.

Four of our five previous winners safely negotiated a passage into round two – donnelyc defeated jon13597493 61 – 50, Jonty ran away a 46 – 38 winner against Mull, Ninja_Fit_Saints breezed past Marvellus 54 – 40, and reigning champ sleepingmaster dismissed Tommyboy 58 – 52.

Missing the grade was Paddy Power Cup III winner, Gooner dave, who succumbed 50 – 46 to ralphypne.

On to the second round, and the full set of 128 fixtures can be viewed right here.

Aside from Jonty, Mark and myself (Akers 41* – 41 07warrel – casual) are the sole Scout representatives still in the competition, and have pulled out of the hat Sheffield Rules and Fenners respectively.

All ties to be played across the upcoming Gameweek 31. Good luck to everyone with a fixture this weekend, and commiserations to those leaving the competition at this stage.

I am surprised more people not captaining Bale against Swansea. He has been great last two games and looked very threatening. Anyone doing this?

To be fair, the alternatives look far more appealing. You're right though. And Caulker will be a big loss to the Swansea defence too.

    Chelsea defensive cover
WIG, ful, -, ars, QPR/NEW, liv, BLA
    Looks pretty tasty to me.
Sunderland can fill in 34 and 35 with WOL, avl. Swansea with BLA, bol which look good budget options to me.

A lot of talk about Cahill which considering his price and threat doesn't surprise me but I don't see the point in getting in a DGW player who may well only play one game. In which case the only options to me are Terry, Cole and Cech. Even then with the CL you could see Terry rested for that or even the possibility of Bertrand playing at LB.

This leads me to leaning strongly towards getting Cech.

I think chelsea cover is essential for GW 35 but I am also strongly in favour of fielding 11 players for GW 34. If you're already capable of doing so then go ahead, bring Cech in. It would not be a bad move whatsoever.

You haven't specified what part of my comment you are talking about so I'll automatically assume you're referring to my point about GW34. When you say 'away to the form team' I presume you're talking about Blackburn at the Liberty? Well in that case, don't bloody buy Blackburn players. If you want cheap GW34 players then Sunderland, Swansea and West Brom obviously are the best options

To be honest, you can't bench Evans and Verm considering their current form but it would make me a little nervous to bench a defender playing at home and to play 2 defenders playing away.

You have a grat front 8 so you're benching decision will be tough one each week but I think you've got it right this week

    Repost from last post

    In the period of gw31-35
arsenal(verm) – qpr, MCI, wol, WIG, CHE
city(kompany) – SUN, ars, WBA, nor , wol
skertel (already in team) - new, AVL,bla, n/a, WBA, (nor, FUL)
Whom do you think will score more pts? Do you think Vermaleen’s purple patch is about to get over?

And as I already have skertel who I will almost surely bring back for the double gw if I did transfer him out, would the move be eventually worth it?

GW34 and the DGW’s has given me a major goalkeeper headache. Currently got Krul and Reina, neither of whom play in GW34 but both have DGW’s following. Replacing Reina is the priority. I am either thinking Hart, Friedel or Bogden (the latter would free up a lot of cash for sure, but leaves me dependent on Krul for the run in, and with Colo injured they are less than convincing at the back). I've got no City cover, so am thinking Hart is the way to go, but I need to free up funds elsewhere to do it. I guess the Arsenal away game in gw32 is best avoided, so I have an extra gw to plan the move.

Is there much incentive to finish 3rd rather than 4th in the league? In case Spurs have a top 4 place secure and are in the FA cup final, I'm hoping they've still big motivation to win their league games in GW36, one of which is only a few days before the FA cup final date, and also the Gw37 game which would be a few days after the FA cup final date.
Then again finishing above Arsenal for first time since God-knows-when (1993?) would be motivation enough. I've answered my own question haven't I?

Greetings all. I have a slight dilemma I was hoping some of you fine folks could help me with. I’m currently sitting in the top 1.5k and on top of all my mini leagues (only just in two of the leagues) and I’m contemplating taking a 4 point hit for the first time this season.

    My team reads as follows:

    Kenny/Vorm
    Simpson/Williamson/Taylor (SWA)/Evans/Hangeland
    Bale/Valencia/Sigurdson/Dempsey/Walcott
    Rooney/RVP/Yak

I’m toying with the idea of replacing Hangeland with Cahil and Yak with Cisse (who I regrettably transferred out couple weeks back). I have the exact cash to do this exchange and the only reason I am contemplating it in this gameweek (rather than using a free transfer to rid of Kenny) is that both the players’ values will no doubt increase at which point I may not have the necessary funds.

Hangeland is an shoe-in for this weekend but if I wait, I may lose the opportunity to bring Cisse and Cahil in the week after due to price rises.

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

    Already have 8 gmwk34 players - Rooney,Jevans,Valencia,Walcott,RVP,Vorm,Caulker,Siggy.
and 7dgw players: Potential players are Bale,Dempsey,Enrique,Kelly.

    Choose:
    1. Bring in DGW players like Miyachi,Mata etc in the next few Weeks
    2. Add Gmwk 34 players (that would mean selling dgw players of less potential like simpson,Ba,Krul )

GW34 is more important atm. Injuries occur etc.

Don't rest everything on GW36, many people will crazy and forget about the other weeks. I'd personally ensure that I had a decent GW34 team (maybe another two or three) by getting rid of the harder DGW fixtures players, and then select a few DGW players, maybe with a hit if you feel a little short.

Obviously there's a trade-off between DGW players and players in GW34, so I think having 11 players for GW34 gives the best advantage as you can always get DGW players after this week. I'll try to keep the odd free transfer and hope for no injuries etc. This is why having a decent squad is important!

With Aguero out, surely this confirms Silva will start?

I know they don't play in the same position, but they're similar, creative players. I don't think Mancini can afford to drop Silva with Aguero out injured.

I think Silva will start but Aguero's absence won't have much impact on that esp. with Tevez back.
The alternative to Silva, is Nasri and Johnson starting on the wings, which has a slight chance of happening.

I reckon min 6, max 8 players is the strategy.
      1. Spurs. (3 players)
      2. Liverpool (1 or 2 players, def and striker or def and mid)
      3. Chelsea (1 player without rotation risk)
      4. Everton (1 or 2 players, Def and/or Jelavic)
      5. Bolton (1 player, Ryo or Bogdan)

Summary: Kaboul, Bale, Ade, Enrique, Gerrard, Cahill, Bogdan, Jelavic

Considerin Enrique is valued at 5.8 and skrtel 6.3 in my team.. who do i take out this week for kompany? the other one will remain in my team all season i guess.. does skrtel's "attackin threat" warrant 0.5 extra?

I guess situations are different for different people – take me for example. I have both, bloke in 2nd had Skrtel (and has since got rid for Caulker – he tried the sneaky double up for the Everton game) and 3rd has Enrique.

So I’m more inclined to ship Skrtel purely for the reason it will still leave me 2m in the bank and when it comes to DGW time, I’ve cancelled out Enrique.

As much as I love the forums, only one person can decide whether Enrique has been toilet and that’s Kenny.

Skrtel 100% nailed on. Enrique 90%. Skrtel goal threat. Enrique after early season assists and bonus has not offered anything. Form of Skrtel better than Enrique. Enrique higher ownership (I suspect) If you have both and only want one the Skrtel warrants .5 premium easily.
