The Members Paddy Power Cup II reaches its climax over the Easter period, with a champion set to be crowned after a couple of Gameweeks in quick succession. With the goal now in sight, eight Fantasy managers went head-to-head in Gameweek 31 in the Quarter-Finals and here’s how they played out…

1The Lord6362howie_c

4KevIRL5062mch

With KevIRL bowing out, it’s now the Quarter-Finals top-scorer, Fuzzy Dunlop, who is the highest ranked in the competition, sitting 2,253rd overall. He’s been drawn against the tournament underdog in 79,585th ranked Pablod, while The Lord, progressing after a close encounter with howie_c, takes on mch, who eliminated the aforementioned KevIRL.

To clarify, here are the two match-ups in all their glory…

1The LordVs.mch
2PablodVs.Fuzzy Dunlop

Remember, a win here guarantees a prize and only two consecutive bad Gameweeks will see one of our remaining contingent going home empty-handed.

The fixtures are to be played across the upcoming Gameweek 32. Good luck to all four of our Semi-Finalists!

ok I will repost my analysis on the next page, but I do have a question first

    Current team

    De Gea, Mingolet

    Evans, Caulker, Verm, Skrtel, Santon

    Bale, Theo, Siggy, McClean, Dempsey

    RvP. Rooney, Yak

Was planning on nothing in 33, giving me 2FTs in 34, one of which I will use to get Sess in for Clint and get me 11 out, and a player who can score well in DGW. Good idea, or just have 10 out?

Also, I am having Bale and Ade in DGW for sure. Do i risk VdV knowing he may get injured/reste. Or do I get Kaboul? Main rival has BAE so Kaboul would cover that off. Or do I forget both and get Friedel? If I don't get VdV I will get Mata, if i don't get Kaboul I will get Jags, Cahill or Huth, if no Friedel it will be Cech.

By getting Mata instead of VDV it is still a risk, VDV might get injured but Mata might get rotated.

Had a good week last week despite the fact Hernandez somehow did not manage to score. Now wondering if I need any changes this week but cannot afford Rooney without an 8ph.

    Here's the team:

    Vorm, Mign

    Enrique, (BAE), Simpson, JEvans, (Clichy)

    Bale, Dempsey, Walnut, Valencia, Siggy

    Cisse, Hernandez, RVP

Assuming no changes who to play?

Dempsey is most obvious sub due to away form but Hernandez rarely plays a full game. Have 29 points to catch the leader so might go Valencia as captain instead of RVP who has struggled recently.

    Any comments?

With the Double Gameweek upon the horizon it’s a good time to start analysing each side with Fixtures, Form and rotation to consider it’s hard to pick the perfect squad when all these factors come into play.

Chelsea- The South West London outfit face one of the more luxurious Double Gameweeks, but that has been overshadowed by the clubs fixture congestion, with the club progressing through Europe and both FA Cup and Premier League commitments Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has assured that his squad will be rotated to cope with the fixture congestion.

    Fixtures:

    7th April: Wigan(H) Gameweek 32
    9th April: Fulham(A) Gameweek 33
    15th April: Tottenham(N) FA Cup Semi-Final
    NO FIXTURE GW34
    18th April: Barcelona(H) UCL Semi-Final 1st Leg
    21st April: Arsenal(A) Gameweek 35
    24th April: Barcelona(A) UCL Semi-Final 2nd Leg
    29th April: QPR(H) Gameweek 36

    2nd May: Newcastle(H) Gameweek 36
5th May: Liverpool(A) Gameweek 37 OR FA Cup Final
8th May: Possible rearranged Liverpool(A) Gameweek 37 fixture
    13th May: Blackburn(H) Gameweek 38

Although it may be a joyful time for Chelsea fans, with the possibility of both Domestic and European success still intact it becomes a headache for us Fantasy managers with many unaware of RDM’s rotation strategy.
Blues keeper Petr Cech has barely been mentioned among the FFS community with many cheaper goalkeepers, such as Newcastle’s Tim Krul and Swan Michel Vorm offer a more reliable source of points and coming in at a much cheaper price tag. But the Czech keeper is the most nailed on of all Chelsea men during the tight fixture squeeze but at a heavy price for a keeper(£6.8m) many will steer clear and look for cheaper options elsewhere.
The Chelsea defence is a rotation hazard in the making, with Englishman Gary Cahill(£5.4m) looking assured to start most Premier League games with David Luiz(£6.3m) being favoured for the European ties. Yet when the team sheets were released on the Saturday afternoon(Courtesy of Demi) he was named among the substitutes. He came on for the second half in place of Luiz and conceded two during his 45 minutes on the field, leaving many managers left with a big fat zero left staring them in the face. Although there may be no cheaper options it seems John Terry(£7.4m) and Ashley Cole(£7.1m) offer reassurance of a starting place in the Chelsea side.

The Chelsea midfield seems uncertain, Mata(£9.6m) leads the way with 133 FPL points to Lampard’s 128, but the Spaniard has had much more gametime than the Englishman with Mata notching up 2277 minutes on the field compared to Franks 2055. Ex Hammers man Lampard(£11.0m) has started the last 7 Premier League games under RDM and played the whole 90 minutes whereas Mata has been hauled off early in some Prem games in preparation for Europe. Neither seem to be likely to play in almost every fixture, and the QPR home game during the double gameweek seems a good time for Chelsea to rest the old guard and play a younger side.

Fernando Torres(£10.0m) notched up his first double figure haul last week with a goal, two assist and a bonus point and has been under the watchful eye of many in the FFS community, but once again his place in the side is uncertain with Drogba and Sturridge also jostling for the spot up front.
Englishman Daniel Sturridge(£6.7m) looks like a wildcard pick despite not showing much form of late.

Conclusion: An accident waiting to happen.

Great post. Failed to mention Ivanovic though - probably the best option in the Chelsea defence now.

    new page/thread repost

    repost from last night

Ok folks as promised my thoughts and insight into how things may pan out as we plan for DGW and beyond

    ***CAUTION- LONG POST COMING***

Chelsea – Perhaps the most complex of all the teams involved in DGW. A CL semi-final in which the first leg (at home) precdes a tricky tie at Arsenal and the 2nd precedes the first DGW fixture v QPR and with a potential FA Cup final 3 days following the Newcastle game, owning any Chelsea player baring perhaps Petr Cech is a risk. Even JT, who has suffered with injury this season could be rested ahead of a potentially explosive clash v QPR. In addition Chelsea face a trip to Anfield in GW37, which, should they reach the cup final may also be delayed.
If they somehow best Barca the CL final follows 6 days after the Rovers game. This is hefty fixture congestion which may see the likes of Mata and Lampard rested for what looks an easy game v Blackburn in 38. In short, barring Cech, the seemingly indestructible Cashley and Juan Mata (and maybe Ivanovic due to the lack of a decent alternative, perhaps Chelsea are best avoided, it is a minefield that may not clear up until just before DGW once their semi’s have been finished. The only players I am considering are Mata, Cech and Ivanovic.

Liverpool – Another potential minefield, we all know how Kenny likes his rotation. Most of us have experienced the frustration of owning Pool players this season, whether it be Suarez and his inability to hit a barn door, their defence and its recent collapse, or the sheer crapness of the midfield, we must all surely have grown tired of Pool. Add this to a match v Chelsea in 37, and a trip to Swans in 38, Liverpool doesn’t seem to appealing. Yet their fixtures in DGW are sure to see owners of Suarez, Skrtel or Enrique may consider keeping, though again more may become clear after the semi. For me, Suarez will be avoided, however, with Agger, GJ and Kelly all due back before DGW perhaps faith in the defence can be restored, and with Norwich and travel sick Fulham in DGW, points could be on the cards for the likes of Skrtel.
Options worth considering – Skrtel, Enrique, Gerrard, Suarez

Tottenham – Clearly the most attractive of all DGW teams due to 2 tasty looking fixtures. Once again a potential cup final in 37 could see rests for the likes of VdV, Ade and even Bale (though with a CL spot to chase the latter 2 seem unlikely) Should Spurs crash out to Chelsea expect them to go all out to secure a top 4 finish, making Bale, Ade and VdV legitimate options. That being said the likes of Kaboul and BAE, and possibly even Walker may warrant a spot due to potential CS and attacking returns (as a guy who owned BAE last DGW I can vouch for this) and they are perhaps less injury prone than VdV.

Matches v Villa and Fulham in the final 2 weeks also look good. For me 3 from Friedel, BAE, Kaboul, Bale, VdV and Ade have to be in your GW36 team and beyond.

Everton – The last of the teams still in the FA Cup. Even without this factor, predicting what team David Moyes will put out on any given week is often pure guesswork, as owners of Drenthe and Hibbert will confirm. Should they beat Liverpool we may see rests for the likes of Jelavic, very much a popular pick in these parts, as Moyes will surely prioritise a cup won over anything else. Should they fall to their rivals expect to see Moyes going full strength in both games, and with a fixture against Wolves in GW37, Everton may be a popular choice. For me Mr. L Baines is a must, whilst Howard, Jags and Jellyfish may also warrant consideration. But always be wary of the Moyes curse, perhaps only Baines and Howard can be assured of a start every game.

Newcastle – Not in the FA Cup and fighting for a EUROPA place, expect Newcastle to play a full-strength side in both fixtures. That being said, with 2 away games, followed by the visit of City, the likes of Krul, Simpson and Raylor may not be guaranteed 1 CS, let alone 2 or 3. Barfa’s recent form merits a mention, as he is capable of destroying anybody. Cisse is clearly in vogue and in form and would be my 2nd choice for a DGW striker (Jelavic would be close behind due to GW37). However, to discount FPL sensation Demba Ba just yet seems silly, and he remains worth monitoring. If he can find his pre-ACON form, he will be at the top of the DGW stikers to have.

Stoke – TBH, i wouldn’t even consider Stoke, they are simply unreliable all over the pitch., If you must punt on them for DGW, followed by fixtures v QPR and Bolton, Begovic, Huth and ShawX may be worth your consideration.

Fulham – Like Stoke they have frustrated this season. They have, however, offered great happiness to FPL players with Captain America and the Pig providing great returns. Clint is a real conumdrum. 2 games for one of the players of the year seems to good to pass up, especially as it is bookended by home games v Wigan and Fulham. Yet his away form, or lack thereof is off-putting and thus picking him remains a lottery.

Man United – The derby in 36, coupled with Swans and Sunderland after mean United may see a fire sale in their players. Should they secure the title prior to the Derby this may only increase due to the possibility of players being given time and fringe players starting. It has been argued that United have nothing else left to play for and that Fergie couldn’t care less about EURO 2012 or the Olympics. This may be true, but Fergie is no idiot. He knows better than anyone that international managers will pick their best team, regardless of how often they played during the season. Given this, he may wish to avoid burning out his players meaning those liable to participate in either the Euros (Rooney, Nani, Evra, Welbeck, Young) or the Olympics (Jones, Smalling, De Gea) could see a rest period. The same could be said of FFS favourite Antonio Valencia, who has to contend with the mammoth South American World Cup qualifying group, which may be even more competitive due to the lack of Brazil in it.

Sunderland and Swansea – Great fixtures in 36 are followed by 2 toughies in 37 which make owning the likes of Sess, Siggy and McLean risky beyond DGW. A plan to lose one of these may be necessary. FYI, Wigan have Rovers and Wolves in their final 2 games. So, may I point you in the direction of the Holy One and, if fit, Hugo Rodallega.

Hope some of this was helpful.

Walcott - bad odds to score and I have RvP
    Dempsey - historically poor away
Bale - Sunderland in good form
Suarez - Liverpool don't need more explanation, but weak opponent

gutten abend chaps - so far i have 10 players for GW34....

    Vorm

    Verm Evans

    Siggy Valencia Walcott Sess

    RVP Rooney Hoilett

Is it really worth an FT to bring in an 11th player? It would be a cheap defender (turner) so not expecting much more than 6 points in return.

I'm leaning toward saving the transfer for a good gw36 player.

Does everyone think that steering clear of Chelsea attacking options during the DGW is a smart thing to do. I have and he's getting a decent PPG when you look at him for the last 4-5 GWKs. But it is most likely that he will get rotated.

Should I keep for DGW or sell and invest the cash in perhaps Baines and a cheaper midfielder?

Such a tough call. Walcott is in great form but his weakness is a LB who knows when to back off and when to close in. Clichy could handle walcott and he may even have a double dose of Milner on him. B for me because Demps can score anytime vs Bolton.

I'd stick - ride the fixtures and the odd header from here til the end.

Terry's got cracked ribs, so presumably Cahill will start.

Depends on if you need a defender for GW34. If so then I would put him on the top list of priorities.

Ill keep him. If he starts vs Wigan and QPR and is benched for the other games, that wont be the worst thing in the world...

Keeping him. Cant waste transfers on keepers at the moment. Have Vorm too.

Yeah it would be a waste of a transfer as I have Mignolet. It's just thought Schwarzer > Bogdan helps me get the players I want in elsewhere.

Don't ask why I have him, but I'd like to play Andrews (BLA), but not sure how I'm gonna fit him in.

Could bench Suarez (AVL), Walters (WOL), McClean (TOT)?

IIf you really want to play Andrews I would bench Walters because I doubt he would do anything.

What's the general consensus on Clint? I currently have 9 GW34 players, tempted to shift him for Theo/Sess to make a round 10. But he does of course have a (tough) DGW with decent fixtures either side. Really don't know whether to stick or twist...
