With double fixtures on offer, our Watchlist rankings are transformed this week, as Fantasy managers look to find every little advantage possible for the season climax. The status quo is broken with the former top dogs – Robin Van Persie, Antonio Valencia and Jonny Evans – all dropping off their perches to make way for double Gameweek offerings…

Goalkeepers

There’s very little between the top two in the keeper rankings, with Tottenham’s Brad Friedel holding off Everton’s Tim Howard. Both sit in the same price bracket and both have fixtures that should bring them further returns this season – including a Gameweek 36 double. While Friedel’s defence offers the likes of Kyle Walker and *Benoit Assou-Ekotto – both more expensive than the American stopper – the injury to Leighton Baines has made Tony Hibbert available as a strong budget alternative alongside Howard. At just 4.7, Hibbert looks set to play at least Everton’s two Gameweek 36 fixtures and, resultantly, finds his way into our defensive rankings.

*Today’s rumours that Assou-Ekotto could be out for the season, however, have somewhat curbed our enthusiasm here.

Chelsea’s Petr Cech and Stoke’s Asmir Begovic, also with double fixtures in their locker, rank next. Again there are alternatives in the respective defences, although in both cases, you’ll be shelling out more for a Chelsea or Stoke defender – certainly one that offers security.

Defenders

It’s a Stoke player that sits atop the defender rankings, however, with Robert Huth offering two home fixtures with significant goal threat over Gameweek 36. With Andy Wilkinson an injury doubt once more, Huth, with Ryan Shawcross as a second option, looks to be the optimum route for Stoke coverage. Given that the Potters have failed to record a single clean sheet in the last seven league games, Huth’s significant threat from set-plays is the key ingredient here.

Tottenham’s Kyle Walker gets the nod behind Huth – the right-back steps in for Assou-Ekotto on the back of today’s rumours – and could come to fruition should Spurs somehow recover their form over the remaining games. Everton’s Tony Hibbert, with starts seemingly assured whilst Leighton Baines is sidelined, sneaks into our top five as a budget option, fresh from a pair of assists at Old Trafford.

The Chelsea defensive situation is interesting – on paper they have two home fixtures to come in the Gameweek and are ripe for investment. Injuries to David Luiz and Gary Cahill have left them short and, with John Terry suspended from the Champions League final, you would expect the skipper to start both league matches. The FA Cup Final is also a factor, however, coming just three days after the home clash with Newcastle. With Branislav Ivanovic suspended for the first fixture with QPR, the Chelsea defence looks ravaged and, potentially, clean sheets will be hard to come by. Terry, with goal threat, does at least have another string to his bow, although the dubious talents of Jose Bosingwa, available at a far cheaper price, could now draw some interest.

Lower down our rankings, both Thomas Vermaelen and Jonny Evans slip, with neither player offering a double Gameweek. Both could go on to record further returns, although fixtures favour neither player. Indeed, only Ryan Taylor has seen more transfers out than Evans amongst the FPL defenders so far in the Gameweek.

Midfielders

While Clint Dempsey faces two tricky away trips to Everton and Liverpool in the Gameweek, his attacking threat is such, he leaps to the top of our rankings. The Tottenham pairing of Rafael Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale come next – despite miserable form that has seen Harry Redknapp’s side struggle. Both have continued to bristle with goal threat, without translating them into returns. With strong fixtures until the end of the season, the Spurs pairing undoubtedly offer the potential for those seeking explosive returns over the run-in. With Emmanuel Adebayor’s role uncertain following the recent speculation surrounding his relationship with Harry Reknapp, Van der Vaart, with spot-kicks in his locker, looks particularly tempting with under 6% ownership in the FPL.

The form and fixtures of Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa and Everton’s Steven Pienaar has them climb into our top five, with Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson holding back the charge from the likes of Martin Petrov, Jon Walters and Yohan Cabaye. The latter has seen huge investment in the FPL this week off the back of his rich returns over the last three Gameweeks.

Further down, Chelsea’s Juan Mata has seen big FPL investment this week but offers us a problem – two home fixtures with QPR and Newcastle in the Gameweek look strong, but rest and rotation is a concern. Mata, as one of the bodies able to play in the Champions League final, will surely miss at least one of Chelsea’s remaining fixtures.

Forwards

With two fixtures in the Gameweek and outstanding current form, both Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse and Everton’s Nikaca Jelavic climb to the top of the rankings. Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney are toppled, then, slipping down our ladder, with City’s Sergio Aguero also a factor, given his stunning recent form.

Emmanuel Adebayor is also in decline – injury saw him miss the defeat at QPR, while reports of a training ground bust-up with Redknapp is unsettling for those considering the striker for Tottenham’s favourable run-in.

Right now, there could be safer options available with Stoke’s Peter Crouch and even Chelsea’s Fernando Torres offering alternatives for those shopping for strikers in the double Gameweek. Following the momentous Champions League victory, Torres would seem set to start Chelsea’s next three league games with Didier Drogba perhaps being lined up for starts in both finals. With his last minute goal in the Nou Camp surely boosting his confidence, Torres looks a tempting option for those looking for a differential with the potential to deliver goals.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

For the rest of the season:

    A) Ade + M. Turner ➡ Jelavic + Hibbert?
    or
    B) Caulker + M. Turner ➡ Hibbert + Senderos?

    Those would be FTs, btw...

Is a 4 point hit to bring in terry for cahill worth it?

Have no other Chelsea coverage and if Cahill doesn't play (which I assume he now won't) next choice defenders are Lescott and Evans.

    Any help much appreciated!

Consensus earlier was "No" but I'm asking myself the same thing, except Kompany for Terry.

I think Terry will definately start both league games now he's out the CL final, and Kompany could either get completely turned over or MotM!

Saying that, I've kinxed every player I've subbed into my team this year, so what would I know.....

I thnk it could be a good idea, works well in rugby.

I think it some situations it could be a fairer outcome, instead of a harsh red card crippling a team for 70-80 minutes, it gives the opposition an advantage just for 10 minutes or so, then a repeated offence would be a sending off for the rest of the match.

Yeh exactly, however a blatant 2 footed foul or John Terry special would still be straight red.

Doubt it would ever happen, rules don´t seem to change too often in football, but I think it could work.

Don't see why not - preventing a goal scoring chance with a non-dangerous foul should result in a 10 minute sin bin instead of a red card for the rest of the match. Reds still applying to reckless or dangerous challenges, etc.

Agree but there are something things that could warrant a 20 mins sin bin. Second Yellow perhaps? Not sure 10 mins is enough like in rugby.

My theory on Krul/Mig is that unless Newcastle get two batterings, he's getting a guaranteed 4/5 points. That means Mig has to get a CS to even compete.

Two games gives Krul twice the chance of getting a CS, saves, penalty save...

Sess v Davies is a close call, but Bolton will be fighting for everything.

OK. Look at the League Table. How would you guarantee third spot? Difficult, no?

Who is their most experienced and dangerous player, when all is said and done?

Why would you, as a manager who has been around Chelsea for many years, not pick him?

Meireles and Ramires and Kalou have all been involved in the Cup run.

Hmmm all this negative Spurs news is giving me doubts of who to bring in.

Was initially set on Bale, Walker & VDV. But given that Kaboul, Dawson and BAE may be out for the season it'll surely affect their CS returns.
Also, could BAE's absence mean Bale slips back into left back?

    Sooooo

If BAE is indeed out, what on earth are people doing with him? I can field enough defenders (Kelly this week, Simpson vs City next week) and replacing him would mean a hit. I have £6m but I just can't see how I can justify it as Kelly should get 3+ points, meaning my replacement would need 8+ points for it to be worth it.

It's all academic as I don't have enough for Jelavic - didn't realsie he'd gone up 0.2 already. Schoolboy error. I could afford the 0.1 rise but not the 0.2.

Graham - time to step up to the mark

Well this BAE news is a total pain in the arse for my DGW team. Did Aguero---->Jelavic last night. I have 8.4M in bank. Any of these worth a hit?

    1 - BAE ---->Terry
    2 - McClean---->Pienaar
    3 - McClean ---->VDV/Lampard

1 or 2 leaves enough to do Papiss--->Rooney for the last 2GWs.
3 means I have to take a hit to get Rooney back in for GW37 (because not selling RVP).

If i do 2 or 3, I will play BAE, Verm and Turner. McAuley will be first sub incase BAE doesn't play

If you have the money for Terry I have to admit that looks tempting. Have a look at my post below - your feedback would help!

Probably quite a few people sitting on BAE and will have to make a decision now.

I'll discuss the options and give my opinion on taking a hit to change him.

Hibbert/Jags: Maybe they will play both, probably won't get any attacking returns, 2-8 points likely - not good enough.

Huth: could get anything between 2-15 but this is mainly relying on attacking threat. Likely to be more like around the 4-9 point mark

Skrtel/Enrique: May or may not play both games, probably won't get any clean sheets or attacking returns, although there is a small chance of something. Probably will get anything up to 8 points

Bosingwa/Cahill if fit: Not sure they will play both and returns are far from sure. I'm wagering for a 8 point return (max).

Looks like it's Huth if anyone.

I am either getting Terry or benching BAE until end of season

I am strongly against bringing in Huth. Stoke are so abysmal now. Attacking returns should only be a secondary reason for picking a defender.

Out of these options an Everton defender maybe good shout with Wolves left. Think everton will get 1/3 in next 3.

Ok, you answered my question. I have to say I agree with you, although this is Huth we're talking about. He's no Vermaelen but his attacking threat certainly is significant enough to give him the edge over someone like Hibbert.

Don't fancy Huth for his attacking returns?

Huth's a possibility though Hibbert's a better option. Personally I think I will forego another hit this week and replace with Vermaelen on my bench

            This.

            For my defence playing

Verm Turner McAuley is good enough if BAE is out. Will take a hit for McClean out and cant merit a -8 when this DGW looks like being a wet fart

Yeah, I'm spinning wheels trying to figure out what to do. Already have Howard or I'd get Distin. The only other defence I'd consider for a hit is chelsea, mainly because of GW37 & 38 games. Terry's an asshat and I'd rather not be in a position of hoping he does well. If Luiz is fit (big if) - will he play both?

You think he's capable of it?

I see them maybe keeping 1 cleanie but that's it.

Jags and Distin are the best bet IMO. With Huth you are relying, as you said, on goals for any returns. Everton have looked good value for clean sheets recently, United aside, and I think most teams would have conceded to United that day, their attack was sublime, defence was the problem.

Plus you have to factor in GW37 when Jags has Wolves away. Huth is away at QPR. Stoke are awful away from home, whilst QPR's home form ay yet keep them up. For me, if you are bringing in a DGW defender, Terry is the best option, but if shopping on a budget then Jags or Distin are the best bets.

I can and can not afford JT. I can get him no problem, but it does not leave enough spare cash to get Rooney in unless I get Pienaar ahead of VdV, something I don't wish to do. On that basis it will be Jags or Distin that I will going for.

And if City win, then you'll be wanting both Tevez AND Rooney because they'll be on level points with City trying to maintain a sizeable goal difference advantage and United hoping to overcome it against weaker opposition. Then again, RVP is RVP. My frontline is Rooney, Tevez and Cisse, so there's my answer.

I have same dliemma. I've opted for Tevez - but the decision was completely financial. I'll be bringing him straight back in, but couldn't afford to with Rooney and RVP as I'd lose .6 on each.
