With double fixtures on offer, our Watchlist rankings are transformed this week, as Fantasy managers look to find every little advantage possible for the season climax. The status quo is broken with the former top dogs – Robin Van Persie, Antonio Valencia and Jonny Evans – all dropping off their perches to make way for double Gameweek offerings…

Goalkeepers

There’s very little between the top two in the keeper rankings, with Tottenham’s Brad Friedel holding off Everton’s Tim Howard. Both sit in the same price bracket and both have fixtures that should bring them further returns this season – including a Gameweek 36 double. While Friedel’s defence offers the likes of Kyle Walker and *Benoit Assou-Ekotto – both more expensive than the American stopper – the injury to Leighton Baines has made Tony Hibbert available as a strong budget alternative alongside Howard. At just 4.7, Hibbert looks set to play at least Everton’s two Gameweek 36 fixtures and, resultantly, finds his way into our defensive rankings.

*Today’s rumours that Assou-Ekotto could be out for the season, however, have somewhat curbed our enthusiasm here.

Chelsea’s Petr Cech and Stoke’s Asmir Begovic, also with double fixtures in their locker, rank next. Again there are alternatives in the respective defences, although in both cases, you’ll be shelling out more for a Chelsea or Stoke defender – certainly one that offers security.

Defenders

It’s a Stoke player that sits atop the defender rankings, however, with Robert Huth offering two home fixtures with significant goal threat over Gameweek 36. With Andy Wilkinson an injury doubt once more, Huth, with Ryan Shawcross as a second option, looks to be the optimum route for Stoke coverage. Given that the Potters have failed to record a single clean sheet in the last seven league games, Huth’s significant threat from set-plays is the key ingredient here.

Tottenham’s Kyle Walker gets the nod behind Huth – the right-back steps in for Assou-Ekotto on the back of today’s rumours – and could come to fruition should Spurs somehow recover their form over the remaining games. Everton’s Tony Hibbert, with starts seemingly assured whilst Leighton Baines is sidelined, sneaks into our top five as a budget option, fresh from a pair of assists at Old Trafford.

The Chelsea defensive situation is interesting – on paper they have two home fixtures to come in the Gameweek and are ripe for investment. Injuries to David Luiz and Gary Cahill have left them short and, with John Terry suspended from the Champions League final, you would expect the skipper to start both league matches. The FA Cup Final is also a factor, however, coming just three days after the home clash with Newcastle. With Branislav Ivanovic suspended for the first fixture with QPR, the Chelsea defence looks ravaged and, potentially, clean sheets will be hard to come by. Terry, with goal threat, does at least have another string to his bow, although the dubious talents of Jose Bosingwa, available at a far cheaper price, could now draw some interest.

Lower down our rankings, both Thomas Vermaelen and Jonny Evans slip, with neither player offering a double Gameweek. Both could go on to record further returns, although fixtures favour neither player. Indeed, only Ryan Taylor has seen more transfers out than Evans amongst the FPL defenders so far in the Gameweek.

Midfielders

While Clint Dempsey faces two tricky away trips to Everton and Liverpool in the Gameweek, his attacking threat is such, he leaps to the top of our rankings. The Tottenham pairing of Rafael Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale come next – despite miserable form that has seen Harry Redknapp’s side struggle. Both have continued to bristle with goal threat, without translating them into returns. With strong fixtures until the end of the season, the Spurs pairing undoubtedly offer the potential for those seeking explosive returns over the run-in. With Emmanuel Adebayor’s role uncertain following the recent speculation surrounding his relationship with Harry Reknapp, Van der Vaart, with spot-kicks in his locker, looks particularly tempting with under 6% ownership in the FPL.

The form and fixtures of Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa and Everton’s Steven Pienaar has them climb into our top five, with Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson holding back the charge from the likes of Martin Petrov, Jon Walters and Yohan Cabaye. The latter has seen huge investment in the FPL this week off the back of his rich returns over the last three Gameweeks.

Further down, Chelsea’s Juan Mata has seen big FPL investment this week but offers us a problem – two home fixtures with QPR and Newcastle in the Gameweek look strong, but rest and rotation is a concern. Mata, as one of the bodies able to play in the Champions League final, will surely miss at least one of Chelsea’s remaining fixtures.

Forwards

With two fixtures in the Gameweek and outstanding current form, both Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse and Everton’s Nikaca Jelavic climb to the top of the rankings. Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney are toppled, then, slipping down our ladder, with City’s Sergio Aguero also a factor, given his stunning recent form.

Emmanuel Adebayor is also in decline – injury saw him miss the defeat at QPR, while reports of a training ground bust-up with Redknapp is unsettling for those considering the striker for Tottenham’s favourable run-in.

Right now, there could be safer options available with Stoke’s Peter Crouch and even Chelsea’s Fernando Torres offering alternatives for those shopping for strikers in the double Gameweek. Following the momentous Champions League victory, Torres would seem set to start Chelsea’s next three league games with Didier Drogba perhaps being lined up for starts in both finals. With his last minute goal in the Nou Camp surely boosting his confidence, Torres looks a tempting option for those looking for a differential with the potential to deliver goals.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Form has proved to be superior over fixtures for most of the season. Also Jelavic should be on pens without Baines in the team.

First Cahill and now BAE; spanners in the dgw works

    Here's what I have

    Krul

    Simpson Cahill Verm

    Bale Dempsey Petrov Pienaar

    Cisse Jelavic RvP

    Ruddy, McAuley, Valencia, Evans.

McAuley comes in for Cahill with a home game against Villa. My main question; is it worth taking a 4 pointer to shift Cahill for another dgw player? Have the cash for any player

Maybe not the last one - it may be worth keeping Rooney for SWA in Gwk 37. Perhaps just Ireland to Bale and Roon to Jelly, then Jelly back to Roon the following week.

ok so having ruled out JT on the basis that a) it's JT and b) Getting him means I haven't got enough spare cash to get Rooney back in 37 (once I get VdV in) my defensive search is down to 3 options.

    Jags
    Distin
    Huth

don't know why not Hibbert, just something about him. He has 4 assists this season, more than in his last 5 seasons combined. Plus Huth, Distin and Jags are far more likely to score than Hibbert.

not many is the answer, maybe 1 v Bolton in 38, though they could shut Arsenal out. Huth is the kind of player you buy for attacking potential. Was tempted by Riise but he's not playable in 38 (that being said Caulker is)

Hey guys, out of these three, which one would you start?

    Vermalen (at Stoke)
    McClean (vs Bolton)
    Valencia (at City)

I'm leaning towards Verm, but Stoke squeeze out a goal more often than not, and I'm rooting for Bolton to fight and stay up so I'd rather Sunderland not produce, not sure if that's clouding my judgment or not, and I think the Manchester game has an equal probability of shootout vs. grind-out.

    Alright Lads,

First post on here ever, need some guidance.... Currently 60 points clear of 2nd in ML, going into DGW i have:

    Vorm
    Taylor, Sagna, McAuley (Clichy, Evans)
    Bale, Demps, HBA, Dyer (Valencia)
    Cisse, Rooney, Aguero
    0.8 in the bank
Not got a clue about Captain at the mo but should I:

    A) Just swap Aguero --- Jellyman
    B) Ag/Dyer --- Jelly + VDV or Cabaye (4 point hit)
    C) Ag/Dyer/Valencia --- Jelly/VDV/Cabaye (8 point hit)

You've only got 5 DGW players at present and I would aim for 7 or 8. With that thinking I'd scrap A. B is good - I'd prefer VDV to Cabaye given you have HBA but you should also consider Pienaar. C is also good with same proviso as B.

You are 60 clear so cheers,as that is a good margin and with the few weeks left you should be fine. It's all up to how adventurous u want to be. Right now u have four ready for the DGW and most want eight or nine. Me, I would keep Aguero based on form and they are at the Etihad where they never lose. Given ur lead I would keep Rooney as you have n reason to drop and he has all spot duties. I would drop Valencia and pick up Pienaar. That's it. No reason to do more given ur lead.

    DGW options...

Chelsea - heavy rotation in prospect, plus possibly shakey at the back with the personnel available.
Fulham - two away games, but Clint can do it against anyone
Everton - on form at both ends of the pitch
Stoke - can't score, if they do it will be Huth but Arsenal up first and RVP must be due a goal
    Bolton - enough said
Toon - as per Everton, strong options but away both games
Spurs - woefully out of form both ends of the pitch
    Scouse - as per Spurs

So it seems to me the strongest options you need to cover are Fulham, Everton and Toon.

With that in mind already owning Simpson, Cisse, Bale and BAE and no Fulham or Everton players I think I'm settling on either:

BAE (injured) and Valencia (who I fear may have run out of steam) for Hibbert and Dempsey, giving me 5 DGW players.

Alternatively I could take a punt on BAE playing, and sell Hart and Valencia for Dempsey and 5.8 keeper probably Howard? Giving me a potential 6 DGW players.

    Any thoughts?

Finding this the toughest week for a while. I am lacking an obvious captain and with 2 free transfers I want to take advantage to get in some more dgw players. The team currently is:

    Friedel

    Simpson/Cahill/Enrique

    Sinclair/Maclean/Bale(v)/Walters

    RVP/Rooney/Suarez(c)

7 players with double games but waiting on more injury news on Cahill so might only be 6. I have stuck with RVP all season but maybe now is the time to get someone in. Rival in mini league has Cisse so unless I opt for Ba I am not interested in Newcastle (not totally convinced they will score heavily in the two games). If it were more obvious who the striker would be for both Chelsea games I would go there, but too much uncertainty. Defoe may carry on in the starting line up but woeful team form is a worry.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

My Team is a shambles. I only have 4 DGW players that Cahill is injured with Jelly, HBA, Ryo and Srktel. hardly great players. Have Tevez and RVP up front. Can basically get anyone into my team but will cost me a four point hit. Was actually looking at JT???

Seeing as Mata was off the pitch way before the end, I'm surprised no-one else is going for the little man...Two home games, plus he's been rested in prior league games. I see him weaving some magic. Anyone else in with me?
