Big. Huge. Game. It’s here – the Manchester derby, the title decider already billed as the biggest clash in the twenty year history of the Premier League. How’s that for hype? Can tonight’s Etihad clash really measure up? We have our Dugout Discussion chatroom open to catch all the excitement, or lack of, as it unfolds.

The team news perhaps already tells a tale. City, content with their recent outstanding form, go with an unchanged lineup which means no place for Micah Richards who returns to the bench alongside Mario Balotelli, straining at the leash.

Sir Alex Ferguson, perhaps going all out to avoid defeat, shuffles the pack with Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck benched for the experience of Ryan Giggs and the industry of Ji-Sung Park. Phil Jones replaces the loose cannon that is Rafael at right-back, while Chris Smalling is called in to partner Rio Ferdinand. Those reports on Jonny Evans’ injury seemingly checking out, then, as United’s rock in recent weeks is kept sidelined.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Tevez was playing very good, a bit more deep, but he created the goal by superb positioning in the box which prevented De Gea from attacking that ball.

Tevez kept it moving and Aguero was a nuisance - it's worked for them the last 4-5 weeks so no reason why not! Definitely can't see Balotelli/Dzeko being risked

Mancini might not be the best coach, but he's not an idiot.

He was never gonna keep fabio at full back he was aweful the game before. What he was thinking resting Valencia and young however was another matter. Nani never turns up to the big games.

He bottled it tonight - really poor team selection - Giggs and Scholes can't carry the team every game and I still can't understand why Park was in the team for his first game in 3 months

park has always been a big game player, he deserved his spot, and probably a mistake going with youth in defense and experience in midfield. United needed more pace and relied on their staters for too long, i really didn't think giggs or scholes should've been in despite their quality

Defensively I can understand playing Jones + Smalling. But more importantly I think this was a lesson to Fergie, you can't play both Giggs and Scholes any more and get away with it - there's just not enough strength there. It worked 2 years ago but not now.

Utd were winning titles in '93 and '94 before the massive influx of PL money took effect. Utd's mid to late 90s teams were the epitome of grassroots.

Look at the players we brought through from the youth team to the first team. Compare with Chelsea and City.

Plenty of top clubs spent big money to win titles, Barcalona, Madrid, Utd, Chelsea. I hope we don't mess about in the transfer window, need 3/4 players. Don't care about the price, just buy them. Having £100m on the bench is a good thing.

      Is this a joke post.

Did you watch Nani tonight? Went a bit missing IMO. Valencia will be back on the right if furguson has any sense.

same here considering Rooney but i think Nani would be the best bet for a differential for me + i can keep RVP at home to Norwich, i mean come on.. it's RVP 🙂

could it be cause they're playing against a team that has good home form ? i wouldn't be too hard on him tho. but i do actually agree with your 2nd point, its a nono for me then.

    Couple of predictions:

    1. Swansea to frustrate Man Utd despite every fckin pundit writing this off as an easy victory for the reds.

    2. Harry Redknapp to face fresh allegations regarding shady dealings and will explain why the FA have picked Woy Hodgepot.

    3. Mancini to shake hands with Mark Hughes as Man City walk away with the Premiership title.

ok so just back after going to mate's to watch. United got everything they deserved, negative team selection, negative tactics, poor defending. Am majorly frustrated by our performance tonight. Was Rooney even playing? United only looked remotely dangerous when Welbeck came on to act as an outlet.

Onlty pluses for me, rival has only taken 3 points out of me and had Al-Habsi, Dyer and Clichy on his bench with no chance of getting them

    So I have a 30 po9int lead/, I have Jags, VdV (c), Bale, Dempsey, Cisse, Jelavic

He has Terry, Walker, HbA and Jelavic (c)

I like my chances. Only thing keeping me sane right now.

Tim,Man Utd fan, on text: "Shambolic display from us today Fergie got it completely wrong, think it's time for Sir Alex and United to part ways, he's holding us back with his short-sightedness"

i guess it is SAF out, pep in 😆

am not going that far, but tonight United got what they deserved, nothing. They lacked any ambition. Even at home at recent weeks they seem to want to walk the ball in, someone needs to take responsibility.

Don't blame Rooney.. He was isolated due to Fergusons tactics and City completely dominated midfield...

well that is true, but when he did have the ball I can only recall him giving away. Even when United got more into it after Welbeck came on, Rooney was still poor. But that being said, I think he will be a must-have next week, at home with a point to prove.
