Fernando Torres grabs a hat-trick as Chelsea put six past QPR. Juan Mata is amongst the points again, while John Terry grabs his fifth of the season in the Stamford Bridge rout. Rafael Van der Vaart picks up the points, as does Kyle Walker, after a bitterly disappointing Blackburn display at the Lane.

Fernando Torres
With a couple of starts looking assured, we’d drafted him into the Scout Picks, but Torres surpassed all expectations with a superb hat-trick against QPR yesterday afternoon. The 9.9 priced forward rewarded those 22,000+ Fantasy managers who snapped up his services ahead of Chelsea’s pair of fixtures and, similar to Luis Suarez, choose this weekend to record his highest points haul of the season. Torres picked up 17 points, producing his second double figure return in his last four starts, as the Blues avenged their Gameweek 9 defeat at Loftus Road. With Didier Drogba likely to be rested again for the visit of Newcastle ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup Final, a buoyant Torres could well rack up the points once again when the Magpies come calling on Wednesday.

Juan Mata
The 9.7 midfielder was afforded a 66 minute appearance by Roberto Di Matteo but still had enough time to return four assists for his Fantasy owners. Mata kept up his strong form under the interim boss – yesterday’s 16 point haul was the fifth time in six starts he has produced attacking points since the dismissal of Andre Villas-Boas. With replacement Florent Malouda grabbing a goal and the likes of Salomon Kalou and Daniel Sturridge all getting amongst the points, though, the worry is that Di Matteo could be a little cautious with Mata’s game time for the Newcastle encounter. Mata now sits on a 161 point haul for the season after yesterday’s display, the fifth top scoring midfielder thus far and has picked up 16 assists, more than any other player in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

John Terry
With injuries and suspension hitting Chelsea hard, their skipper looked the only certainty for a couple of starts over the double Gameweek. Paulo Ferreira was handed a rare start at right-back, as Jose Bosingwa partnered Terry in the heart of defence – the latter headed home his fifth goal of the season, just one less than Thomas Vermaelen at the top of the defender charts. Although Terry’s hopes of a double figure haul were scuppered when Djibril Cisse notched a late consolation, Bosingwa still benefitted from a clean sheet – he was subbed off for Sam Hutchinson two minutes before the Frenchman’s goal.

Rafael Van der Vaart
While Gareth Bale continued a goalless streak that stretches back to Gameweek 23, the Dutchman opened the scoring in yesterday’s 2-0 win over Blackburn. Van der Vaart has now notched in each of his last three starts at the Lane, handing his 7% Fantasy owners an eight point return ahead of Wednesday’s game with Bolton. Spurs are now back in fourth but will need to up their away form for the Reebok trip if they are to keep ahead of Newcastle – Harry Redknapp’s side have scored in only one of their last six away matches.

Kyle Walker
With Blackburn desperately needing points, many had expected Steve Kean’s side to at least come out fighting at the Lane yesterday. Instead, what unfolded was a game that resembled an attack v defence training match at times – Rovers failed to muster a single shot over the entire ninety minutes. As a result, Spurs grabbed their first home clean sheet since Gameweek 25 and, with Walker also firing home a superb free-kick for his side’s second, the full-back returned a 15 point haul for his display at the Lane. Subject to almost 70,000 transfer in after Benoit Assou-Ekotto was ruled out last week, Walker is now one point ahead of the left-back for the season, after taking his total to 136 yesterday. While Spurs have been poor from an attacking perspective on the road of late, Walker’s owners will be confident ahead of the trip to Bolton – the Londoners have conceded just once in their last three on the road.

If Arsenal can sign a creative mid like Hazard,
they can challenge for the title.

Hazard will be a City player.

We need to offload before we sign anymore CM/AM.

Song, Arteta, Wilshere, Rosicky, Diaby, Ramsey, Denilson, Coquelin, Frimpong, Arshavin.

I was crying out for Wenger to do that earlier in the season. I think it's better we offload him now.

Arshavin should be off.. Dont see hazard to Arsenal.. city most likely.. plus we already have AOC..

M'Vila/Martinez/Biglia/DM looks like a real possibilty..

            We get

Rvp Poldi, Wilshere, Ramsey, Rosicky, Song, Arteta, Le coq.. + New Signings

Frimpong looks likely to go out on loan again, Arsenal were trying to offload Diaby last summer so hopefully he frees up a spot on the 25 man squad..

We really need strengh in depth to actually win the title and not just compete for it and fall short in the business end of the season..

Not happening in my opinion. We already have Koscielny, Vermaelen and Mertesacker. Need a balance between those who expect to play every game and those who know they are not first choice, Vertonghen would expect to start most games.

To be honest, I'd look at a second striker option too. Arsenal need more than RVP to be relying on up front, there will come times when he needs someone else to share the work load,

Nope....FIFA has long seen th premiership as a secondary to both Seria a and La liga. Both are weaker leagues IMO. Would love to see Messi up against the likes of stoke on a wet, dark wintery day!

Wouldn't say La Liga is a weaker league just EPL is more enjoyable since there are more teams contending for the top spots. La Liga is a two horse race but that's slowly starting to change.

Leagues are different, so different aspects are needed to be good. The free flowing passing football of the Southern leagues is more appreciated by FIFA. That is even apparent in the CL where less use of force is allowed by the refs. Personally I like Serie A a bit more since it is not that much about possession.

Thoughts on which 3 to play?
Hibbert (wol) Vermaelen (NOR) Baines (wol) Kelly (SUN)
I think I'll pick Baines unless he is confirmed out just in case, so pretty much Kelly or Hibbert (both will probably end up playing)

    Ola Fratboy!

It's looking close with Sleep Talk. If I don't get a huge lead this leg, he could overhaul me in the 2nd. One of the drawbacks of going with 11 DGW-ers. Oh well...

On a side note, I couldn't be more annoyed I didn't show the leap of faith with Mata/Torres. Freaking annoyed. My top 100 dream could have been achievable 🙁

Btw just noticed 3 Semi-Finalists called for Ade (C). You were the smartest chap going for VDV (C)! Grats bud. 😉

Yeah 11 DGWers was always going to be risky but boy has it paid dividends for you! Who knows what GW37 will bring, I haven't really looked at ColeHole's team for that week yet but I know a big lead will help! (I'm smart I know).

You sure you can't still get top100 how far off are you?

Yeah Adebayor was in one of his lazy moods yesterday, never once looked bothered about scoring. VDV's goal was sooooo sh!t but I couldn't be happier 😀 thanks for the praise 🙂

Hahaha on another day it should have been an Adebayor tap-in! But as you say he was at his laziest best.

I'm at 404 now. Had I not done a pre-deadline swap from Torres (C) to Ade (C), I could have been the top 100 already.

Hope to see you in the finals mate!! It should be THE dream final of this tourney 😉

Honestly, the people with Cisse(c) need to stop beating themselves up or saying they have learnt their lesson etc.

Did you watch the game? He was pretty good in an off colour Newcastle performance, he hit the bar and the post! Mere 'licks of paint' off a great score not to mention he still has another game to grab a goal or two.

Yes it isn't looking great atm and that may not change but your decision making was sound, just got to roll with the punches now.

He really should have scored that header, fairly easy chance, but if I had to make the choice again I'd still have (c)d him.

My biggest regret is not getting Jelavic, but even then Rooney (who would have made way) hasn't played yet, and I'm clear in my main mini-league so don't mind being a bit biased in the players I've got - would rather 9 points from Rooney than 12 from Jelavic.

Suarez, Mata and Walker absolutely negated all my plans and hits , ruined my sunday and restored my rivals 30 pt lead which I had hoped to cover this GW..

The only thing in my favour would be Jelly, Pienaar, Dempsey, HBA and Cisse look more likely to play the second game compared to Suarez + Mata.. hope they draw a blank.. :/

United were taking Europa league as they take the domestic cups, so you cant put much into that. But agree on Barca vs Stoke talk. Still think the premierleague is way better, when every year there are 5-6 teams who could win the CL. Whereas in Spain there is mostly 2 with 1 suprise side every year( Valencia, Athletico)

He scored 33 goals for Koln in his second recent spell. That took in 87 appearances, which makes him a goal every three games kinda guy.

Only question mark was his less than fantastic time at Bayern, where he slipped down the pecking order behind Toni. Arguably though he is in his prime now and agreed should far better at a top side.

I'd like to see him up front with RVP, potentially more assists than goals from Podolski though from a FPl point of view.

No offence to Podolski but I don't think after Nasri, Clichy and Fabregas Arsenal can maintain top 4 status if they ditch RVP. RVP is a 20 -30 goal a season man, Podolski, has never and will never be that, and I hope/fairly certain Wenger knows that.

My money is on Podolski being on the left, and available to play up front when RVP gets injured.

To replace RVP you are going to need Klose of a few years back not modern day Podolski.

Everybody said the same thing when Vieira left, when Henry left, when Flamini and hleb left, when Adebayor left and when Cesc and Nasri left..

Somebody always steps up and rises to the occasion..

And I really doubt Arsenal will have another poor transfer window.. Although this one wasnt that poor considering signings like Arteta, AOC and Gervinho..

Hoping for another 1-2 solid additions to the squad and with everybody back and injury free Arsenal will have a great squad for next season..

But they did suffer when they all left. How many trophies have they won since Viera left for example?

They have a good enough squad to be top 4, but they used to have a good enough squad to win the Premier League and the FA Cup.

If RVP leaves it would be a major step backwards for Arsenal.

Yes, Arsenal might not have won any trophies during that period but they came mighty close. CL finals which Arsenal narrowly lost.2-3 CC and FA cup finals, and on 2-3 occasions Arsenal challenged for the title when major injuries cost us those cups. Eduardo, Diaby, Ramsey and Rosicky all Leg breaks and all had a major impact on the title challenge physically as well as mentally.
And all this when Arsenal was absolutely broke and in transition with a move to a new stadium. I mean Arsenal had to sell players to actually buy new ones. So with the debt now considerably lowered and good transfer money I hope Arsenal build on this already strong squad and challenge seriously next season.

You can just see there are hardly 1-2 players from 3 seasons ago who still play for Arsenal who werent even first teamers then.

Im pretty confident for next season and confident on finishing 3rd this season too.

I think Oxlade will be a winger next season but he will be playing "in the hole" in the future. That looks right for next season.

What you need is someone good enough to play instead of RVP in the odd game to give him a rest, but happy to be benched for much of the time - there aren't too many of those type of players around.

Chamakh and Bendtner were supposed to do that, but they're both shite.

I agree. I think we shouldnt be playing 4-5-1 every game. It makes it easy for the oppo manager.

It doesn't even have to be someone that are happy to be benched. But someone who could work well both as a single striker or in a partnership with RvP, or possibly someone who could play in several positions, but also as a single striker. Podolski fits both describtions to some extent, but I find him to be rather awkward when playing as a lone striker. City have got Tévez and Agüero who can play in several attacking positions. Man Utd have got Rooney. Arsenal have got RvP. The question is whether Wenger want to risk having RvP tucked behind a striker again, now that he is dominating up top. To be fair, that's easily the best solution, if they want to add another top draw striker to the squad. There's no top notch striker out there that would sit on the bench for a team that can't guarantee a fight for the first spot.

Guys, u reckon Suarez will play against Fulham?!. He was already rested for a game coz of Cup semis..but will he be rested again? IMO, he's just found his form and i reckon Kenny would start him just because he's on form and he may take him out wen they have a good scoreline.

    Anyone agree with me?

it is kind of annoying when in earlier in the week, i saw that united/chelsea want to sign some guy, and the next day, city joins the race. and they don't even need the player or it doesn't even suit their style of play.

Potentially how many more points u reckon I can make up the rest of this gameweek with:

Terry, skrtel, vdv, Suarez and jelavic (c) vs

Huth, Williamson, Ben arfa, Rooney and cisse (c)?

Scouts, in your experience of analysing the bonus points and PPI index, do we think that Mata's current PPI score for this week is with or without the two assists that he was subsequently added?

Basically, should my Mata (c) - yeah, I captained Mata, what of it - be entitled to any further bonus points, or is the current allocation fair and correct?

The baps were late this morning and came shortly after the assists were added. I'd say his PPI definitely has all 4 assists.

There have been changes within the day to bonus based on assists added on, but this one would be a tough one as goals for defenders seem to be worth alot, plus Terry was his usual self racking up the usual defence pts. Goals count more.

Its possible, but I think the other recipients had such a good game I'm not sure it'll be enough.

      That's my two-penneth anyway.

I'm not a scout, but I do like to analyze the BP system and I'm pretty sure that all 4 assists have been included, Piennar with 3 assists + A CS + 85 minutes got a PPI of 41, mata seeing as he only played 65 minutes and I'm not sure on the CS bit, got a PPI of 40. A ppi of 40 is impressive, it's just that Terry had a PPI of 46 and Torres 64, Terry's was I think down to the shot's on target, his goal + good defending stats. So I don't think so, but very nice call nonetheless.

Yeah, cheers all. I've had a look at Kalou got a PPI of 20 for his one assist, and he played a little longer than Mata and also kept a clean sheet. (Mata did have an extra shot on target though)

Around 20 PPI for Mata's three extra assists seems very plausible, and a PPI of 40 with 65 minutes played and just two assists would be a bit too much I think!

Conspiracy theory well and truly shot down. 😉

3 goals at the very most.
      Is Evans playing or not?
      Will Rafael be dropped?
If Man U play with 2 new in defense from their usual 4 then I fancy City 2-0.
Rooney to miss a penalty in the 58th minute and get a red card with a 2 footed challenge for the rebound would be nice!

Remember you get your money back if Wellbeck doesn't play or if he comes on as sub with a goal already scored. However if it's 0-0 and he comes on as sub with 2 min to go it's a valid bet.
