Papiss Cisse steals the show with a pair of outrageous finishes at the Bridge. Alan Pardew opts for a 4-4-2 as Newcastle pick up yet another clean sheet, while Chelsea taste defeat at home for the first time under Roberto Di Matteo. Emmanuel Adebayor bags a brace at Bolton, with Rafael Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale both getting amongst the points, as Spurs deliver a huge blow to the Trotters’ survival hopes:

Papiss Cisse
Having twice hit the woodwork at Wigan last weekend, the Newcastle forward returned to goalscoring ways in sensational style at the Bridge last night. Partnered by Demba Ba up top in a switch to 4-4-2, Cisse grabbed two goals of the highest quality as Alan Pardew’s side picked up their seventh win in the last eight to boost their chances of a fourth place finish. Cisse has now scored 13 times in just 12 appearances since moving to Tyneside in January and, with a pair of assists and 20 bonus points also thrown in for good measure, has averaged a sensational 8.4 points per game thus far, way ahead of second placed Robin Van Persie’s 7.0. The transfers in will continue to roll, although Cisse’s final two games are far from straightforward – City arrive on Sunday having returned three clean sheets in four, while a Gameweek 38 trip to Goodison could prove tricky; Everton have picked up seven clean sheets in their last eight at home.

Newcastle Defence
With Danny Simpson missing out for the first time this season, James Perch slotted into the right-back role last night. Bearing in mind that Chelsea had hit six past QPR on Sunday and Newcastle had been thrashed 4-0 at Wigan, an away clean sheet was perhaps unexpected, but the Magpies once again excelled at the back, returning their sixth clean sheet in the last eight Gameweeks. Pardew’s side now welcome Man City to the Sports Direct Arena on Sunday and, given the Magpies’ form at both ends of the pitch, Roberto Mancini’s men will need to deliver a big performance if they are to remain on course for the title.

Rafael Van der Vaart
The Dutchman picked up where he left off against Blackburn on Sunday as Spurs swept aside Bolton at the Reebok. Van der Vaart had grabbed a goal and a couple of bonus points at the Lane in the first match of his double Gameweek and followed that up with a goal, an assist and X bonus points last night. After a barren winter period, he’s been a crucial part on Spurs’ push for fourth with three goals in his last seven starts– with a trip to Villa up next before a home game against Fulham to see out the season, Van der Vaart looks in the mood to rack up more points before the campaign comes to a close.

Gareth Bale
While his goalless streak may have extended to 12 games last night, Bale picked up a couple of assists against the Trotters. With an assist also provided against Blackburn, the Welshman returned a respectable 14 point score for his Fantasy owners over the double Gameweek. Bale has now closed the gap on Clint Dempsey at the top of the midfield rankings; he’s now just 11 points behind the Fulham man and, with those above-mentioned fixtures to follow, is afforded a chance to perhaps overtake Dempsey as the pair go head to head at the Lane in Gameweek 38.

Emmanuel Adebayor
There’s no doubt the on-loan forward can be a frustrating Fantasy option. Adebayor arrived at the Reebok having scored in just one of the previous nine Gameweeks but found his scoring touch to grab a couple of goals against Owen Coyle’s strugglers. The fourth top scoring forward to date this term, he’s still owned by less than 10% of Fantasy managers despite the fact that Adebayor, with 15 goals and 12 assists, has had a hand in more goals for Harry Redknapp’s side than any other player.

    Anyone think a system for baps like 25+ = 1 bap, 40+ = 2 baps & 50+ = 3 baps would make for a better system?

        As an addition, bonus points are awarded to players for their contribution to the game.

        Attacking Bonus

        Players will score extra points for positive play:

        1 point for every 3 crosses (A cross is defined where the ball is played to their own player in the penalty area)
        1 point for every 3 key passes (A key pass is one that leads to a shot at goal)
        1 point for every big chance created (A big chance is one where the analyst determines the player should score)
        -1 point for every big chance missed
        Defending Bonus

        Players will also score extra points for good defending:

        1 point for every 6 clearances, blocks or interceptions
        1 point for every 6 recovered balls
        -1 point for every error leading to a goal

            They seem to be able to work it pretty well and it rewards players other than goalscorers. You could see a defender conceeding one, bur picking up 2 baps for defending and 2 for attacking bringing him up to 7. So much more dynamic I find. I find the scoring in that game a lot more acceptable than FPL.

      As in a 25 PPI score? Yeah I was thinking that earlier, better to reward the 4th best player if they have been very good than reward 3 players in a 0-0 who have done very little.

        Yes PPI. 0-0 would likely not get any baps unless someone has a few shots on target.

      What about only giving Bonus points to players that haven't scored/assisted so those who perform well but miss out on regular points get them. At the same time having a threshold of PPI they need to meet to stop 8 chumps getting 2pts each in a 0-0

          I thought part of the original intention for the bonus was to make up for outstanding performances by players that would otherwise go unrewarded. Either way the main thing that needs changing is the way PPI is weighted to stupid things like shots off target.

        To take that idea a stage further - don't give any extra PPI for the goals. i.e a goal is just counted as a shot on target, and an assist as a key pass. The players responsible already have the points for the goal/assist, but don't get an extra reward - but (e.g.) the striker who has 8 shots on target and scores 3 can still get the bonus he probably deserves.

      there needs to be some sort of review of the bonus points system. a player could be man of the match yet still get no bonus points. keepers as well as defensive midfielders have little chance of recieving bonus points. for example early in the season wigan lost 2nil. al habsi made a strig of unreal saves to make the score respectable was man of the match yet no bonus. fulham lost to spurs 3-1. the game was at 2-1 friedal man of the match kept spurs in it. spurs countered and got a third. no bonus for friedal.

    I love the moaning about how the bonus points are decided.

    It's the same for everyone and it's easier to predict who will get the bonuses now in most cases so we have an advantage over the casual players.

    Keep them as they are.

            Scored 2 goals more than anyone else in his game..... You do understand that scoring goals will more than likely get you a higher PPI, which is effectively what the Bonus Point system is based on.

              A goal has the same PPI value, whether it's a wonder strike or a tap in. The BP system is at least predictable, sure it has it's flaws but it's not all that bad. Makes our life easier by rewarding the goalscorer, I don't understand why people can't understand that.

                I know, I agree - it's GW36 and people are still complaining.
                What I meant was, watching the two games, nobody would argue that Cisse would deserve MOTM after those two, Adebayor not so much.
                I know the BP's don't go off MOTM, but it seems people complain when it doesn't 😕

            But they can't influence that result. They can only influence the goal difference, which is basically plan B for winning the league, and might be the only chance they have. They can hope for a newcastle win but it would be passive and defeatist to rely on that and not even have a crack at the GD route.

            I think United's only hope is Newcastle winning, which is very possible.
            But on goal difference, we have to assume City win, by at least one which would make them +63 if both games are 1-0, which would mean United have to win by 5 goals or more in both games, I don't see it.

          Boyce has better fixtures and is in form atm. I wouldnt mind doubling up on Arsenal though.

    My current team:
    KRUL/VORM
    WALKER KOMPANY Evans Turner Caulker
    DEMPSEY VDV PIENAAR Ben Arfa Siggy
    RVP AGUERO Cisse
    2.8m in the bank.

    The players in capital letters is players I plan to keep for the season. I am in 5th place in my minileague, but only 20 p from number one. I feel I should have some kind of United coverage. What would you do:
    A: Evans/Turner/Caulker -> Vermaelen/Kaboul/P.Jones
    B: Ben Arfa -> Valencia
    C: Cisse -> Hernandez

    Only 2 defenders for next gw (Verm & Caulker)

    so thinking ill get Kompany in for either one of

    A) JEvans
    B) Richards
    C) Cahill

    Im starting to side with JEvans, if theres a chance Richards might play the last game of the season.

    Anyone glad to see that Terry header saved off the line? Made a big difference in my ML. 🙂

    Hey guys, I'm neck and neck with a guy in my ML and need to close this bad boy down - any suggestions for this week? We have completely different teams so all players are differentials!

    Begovic
    Walker, Turner, Kelly
    Bale, VDV, Valencia, Bale
    Tevez, Cisse, Jelly
    (Vorm) (Siggy, Evans, Caulker)

    1FT, 4.7m. I'm thinking maybe Tevez > Rooney, Tevez > RVP, Turner > Vermaelen or save the FT.

      Bale. He's been less impressive than VDV in terms of pure points lately. Although that said, Dempsey's on a dry run himself, and has a difficult pair of games to get points from.

      In conclusion: keep VDV.

    Gahhhh - I have almighty great big DGW hangover in my team. My defence has ended up an unintentional shambles. Is anyone else taking transferring Jevens / Simpson out rather than playing Simpson and benching Jevvie??

    Looking at Mourinho's record has me in full admiration of his achievements.

    1) Winning the Champions League and Portugeese league with Porto.
    2) Winning the Premiership and the FA cup with Chelsea.
    3) Winning the Champions League and Italian league with Inter Milan.
    4) Winning La Liga and the Spanish Cup with Real Madrid.

    This guy is a god when it comes to football. If I had to choose between himself and Guardiola I would go with Mourinho by a clear mile.

    Hi guys,

    Not really sure what to do.
    Taking hits cost me earlier on in the season, but I wondering if it's worth it now seeing as we're nearly finished anyway.

    A. Caulker -> Verm
    B. Siggy -> Moses
    C. Poggy -> RVP
    D. Cisse -> RVP

    Vorm - Ruddy
    Kelly S - Turner - Kompany - Caulker - Evans J
    Sigurdsson - Valencia - Dempsey - Bale - Pienaar
    Pogrebnyak - Jelavic - Cisse
