The Dugout Discussion opens for the oddity of a solitary Saturday Premier League fixture. With Chelsea and Liverpool Wembley bound this evening, we’re restricted to just one fantasy scoring opportunity. But, with over half of us backing Robin van Persie with the armband (if our Captain’s Poll is to be believed), then Arsenal versus Norwich is a game of huge significance. With mini-leagues hanging in the balance, let’s take a look at the team news to confirm whether or not our talisman starts…

Arsenal XI: Szczesny, Sagna, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Ramsey, Song, Gervinho, Rosicky, Benayoun, van Persie.

Norwich XI: Ruddy, Naughton, Ryan Bennett, Martin, Lappin, Johnson, Howson, Elliott Bennett, Hoolahan, Jackson, Holt.

Of course the Arsenal captain does start, and he does so in an unchanged Gunners line-up from the side that drew 1-1 at Stoke.

After a 3-0 defeat at home to Liverpool, Norwich make several changes with Grant Holt and Simeon Jackson leading the line for the Canaries.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and can be accessed right here.

Awful decison, would have scored if he wasn't fouled, robbed of a goal both ways.

what about gervinho being a mile offside on that same play - it should have been an offside regardless.

Norwich were robbed of a penalty too to be fair, and Benayoun/Ramsey should have been off.
In the end the ref was shite for both teams.

Why did Gervinho not hit it in before it even got to RVP? half of the Arsenal team can't even connect with a shot let alone get it on target.

What a turnaround from RVP. Should have easily got a hattrick and perhaps more than that. But i am happy with 2 goals after that 1st half.

Considering the 1 on 1 and the open goal when he was pushed its unbelievable that RVP didn't get a hat trick in the end.

My FPL Fool's Gold 11 (players you know you shouldn't buy but can't help yourself)

    Given
    Richards Vermaelen Baines
    Brunt Moses Walcott Bale
    Bendtner Adebayor Suarez

    Ruddy Dzeko Huth ACole

Just missing out are Eagles, Metrov, Taiwo and any Norwich outfield players. Kolarov lesson was learnt last season. Chelsea attackers get a last minute reprieve.

What on earth is wrong with Vermaelen/Baines/Walcott/Bale ?
Vermaelen has the highest PPG for a regular playing defender, Baines is in the top 5 defenders, Bale is second to Dempsey in midfield and 5th in overall scoring and Walcott is 4th midfielder despite his recent injury

I know what he means though. Not fully comparing but he has that Berbatov of last season feel. Its almost been a season of 3 parts for him - first 9 gameweeks he averaged less than 3 pts per game. Then he exploded - and now for last 13 gws has avg less than 4ppg. for those that dont have him at the right time, theres a lot of misplaced hope.

They're players that promise so much and deliver so little.

Since Christmas, Bale has delivered a few assists. Value for money when we've all kept him do long?

still in no way eradicates what he did before.

Walcott has been extremely consistent all season.

I agree with Baines/Bendy in particular as I find they only score when I don't have them, but Baines was still gold last season.

Obviously, the whole thing is quite personal.

The reason for having kept Bale is fear. Fear of those hauls he once produced. We knew he wasn't in form but we persisted and couldn't help but keep/buy.

Walcott has trickled points here and there, but how many ended up in our teams?

You're right but Bale is always good for the start, and has delivered recently (DGW mainly)
I'd put VDV over him - he delivers when he plays, I rate him higher than any other midfielder when fit, but my god it gets frustrating.
Still disagree re Vermaelen, his recent record is immense for a defender

With VDV's hamstrings, I can understand that viewpoint, but his streakiness is a blessing and has meant it's been easier to decide when to buy/offload. Therefore, we've been able to benefit from him as and when.

Someone like Mata has his points spread. His unpredictability makes him frustrating but his potential will see him high in the overall rankings (not a good gauge IMO).

For me, today epitomises Vermaelen. The frustration owning him does not make up for the occasional haul.

Occasional? I've had him since just before Newcastle (H) and he has been great for me, not just the odd 15 pointer.

bale didnt deliver in dgw. He avg 7 ppg for easiest schedule of dgw. lots had him capt - im sure they were dissapointed with that haul. Moses captainers made more points.

how happy are you when your capt scores 7 points. Obviously for a season that is great stuff, but for blackburn and bolton you expect more.
