Antolin Alcaraz keeps Wigan in the Premier League with a dramatic late winner at Ewood Park. Jean Beausejour proves to be the key creator once again as the Latics chalk up their sixth victory in the last eight Gameweeks. Blackburn, on the other hand, are relegated to the Championship after another dire display:

Antolin Alcaraz
The Latics may been outstanding at the back in recent home games – their last three at the DW have seen clean sheets picked up against Stoke, United and Newcastle – but on the road, it’s been a different matter altogether. Roberto Martinez’s side had returned a single away clean sheet all season prior to last night, in their very first road trip at Swansea back in Gameweek 2. Alcaraz’s winner in the 1-0 triumph means he has now returned a couple of goals and four clean sheets in the last seven Gameweeks and, with the maximum bonus points in the bag, has averaged over 6 points per game over that period of time – more than any other player in Martinez’s side since Gameweek 31 onwards. His presence at the back is clearly vital – the Latics have seven clean sheets in the 25 games Alcaraz has featured in, compared to a single clean sheet in the 12 matches he missed through injury.

Jean Beausejour
The former Birmingham man has been a crucial component of the Latics’ 3-4-2-1 system since joining back in January. Beausejour has started every match from Gameweek 23 onwards and has picked up in consistency over the last few Gameweeks. Last night’s assist for Alcaraz’s last-minute goal was his fourth in his last seven appearances but, despite his recent form, a mere 103 Fantasy managers drafted him in prior to Saturday’s deadline – Victor Moses was snapped up by over 93,000 Fantasy owners in comparison. With the pressure now off, it’s basically a straight fight between Bolton and QPR to avoid the drop; Wigan, on the other hand, play host to relegated Wolves next Sunday and, given their outstanding run of form, more Fantasy managers will be turning to the Latics as the season draws to a close.

Yakubu
Blackburn’s Ewood Park blank was the fifth time in the last seven matches Steve Kean’s side have failed to find the net, with their over-reliance on the Nigerian’s goals proving their undoing. While Yakubu has netted 16 times this term, averaging 4.7 points per game (almost on a par with Juan Mata’s 4.8, for example) he has found the net in just two of his last 12 matches – with the goals drying up for the summer signing, only Junior Hoilett, with seven strikes all season, has stepped up. With confidence rock bottom and the fans venting their fury, a trip to the Bridge next Sunday could see plenty snapping up Chelsea’s assets as they seek to finish the season with a win over Kean’s beleaguered side.

Hello gents. Request for a quick piece of advice here. Im trailing my mini league by 30 points. Almost impossible to win it now unless for a miracle, I was thinking of playing a bit aggressive this week as I have nothing to lose.

Since Cech will most probably not play this week and Schwarzer is my other keeper playing (tot), I was considering an 8PH:

    Schwarzer + Evans + Cisse > Al-Habsi + Clichy + Aguero (c)

Aguero and Rooney will probably be my differential to his RVP and Cisse. Yay or Madness? (I'm doing Schwarzer to Al Habsi only to fund Evans to Clichy. Gives me exact change)

hard to say if a hit for Al-Habsi + Clichy will be worth it. but as you need differentials could be good.

If you need to make up that much ground it's unlikely you'll be able to do it with defenders, last week of the season can get a bit silly in terms of cleanies, I'd avoid the hits and go for big hitters he doesn't have. TBH I think you're best off with simply Rooney to Aguero, captain Aguero and pray.

On these board you'll often find maxims like "fortune favours the brave" adduced to justify points hits, a lot of the time the brave thing is holding steady and having faith in who you've got. IMHO.

Thank you. I see your point Stilicho.

But I still need Evans out to field a back 4. Made a mistake of not taking a hit to get him out this week. Any suggestions for a replacement for less than 5.4 mill.

(Like I said, the Al Habsi move was to fund Clichy in. )

          I agree with Stili.

Play Schwarzer, and a back 3 of Vermaelen, Caulker and Shotton, then swap Rooney for Aguero and captain.

I would never be spending points on defenders for GW38. Especially not when Schwarzer is a perfectly good option.

You'll need more than just good choices to claw back 30pts, so unnecessarily making it a 34 or 38 pt deficit isn't a good idea.

REPOST: got stuck in the old one

    what do you guys think?

I’m trailing my rival by 3 points after bonus, and these are the teams:

    Me:
    Bogdan
    Vermalen/Kompany/Terry
    VDV/Silva/Moses/Siggy
    RVP/Aguero (C)/Jelavic

    Subs: Mignolet, Dempsey. Jags, Caulker

    Him:
    Krul/Mignolet
    Walker/Vermelen/Caulker
    Dempsey/HBA/Bale/Valencia (Siggy?)
    Cisse/Jelavic/Rooney

I’m dead sure, he’s going to do Rooney –> Aguero and then captain him.

So should I transfer Siggy for a hit ? (I did Evans –> Kompany)

    Cheers guys, thanks for reading

Cash mini-league going down to last day of the season. Leading by 10 points, rival has 2 frees, Rooney, Evans but no Cisse:
I’ve got 2 frees as well, should I go
    A) Demps + Cisse -> Maloney/Moses/Petrov + Aguero
    B) Evans + Rooney -> Clichy + Aguero
Lost a bit of interest in Wig now they’re safe, but lingering worry that Rooney ends the season on a high…

How would u try and protect this 15pt mini league lead?
    Me:

    Al habsi

    Walker verm evra

    Bale vdv siggy dempsey

    Jelavic cisse rvp
    Subs: valencia, Evans, simpson bogdan
    Rival:

    Vorm

    Walker gibbs caulker

    Bale vdv maloney HBA

    Rooney aguero rvp
    Subs: Collins, Simpson, ferguson

    Considering 4pt hit of cisse,dempsey > aguero,maloney

If you were just behind rival and he had Aguero would you
    a) get Aguero and captain - hope that other players make up the difference
    b) gamble on Aguero underperforming and captain tevez

If you are confident of your differentials outscoring your rivals (and making up the small gap) then A.
If theirs look better on paper, go Tevez

I think I'll have to go Tevez then, considering Aguero would be for a hit too. Going to be watching the City game from behind the sofa.

    A - Valencia --> Yaya

    B - Dempsey - Mata

    C - Dempsey - Silva

    D - Dempsey - Nasri

I did B but people are saying he might me rested on the weekend, best to see the lineup against Liverpool for this. C or D would be really good, I'd sooner have Nasri for free kicks and corners although both him and Silva usually get subbed around 70/75 mins

Would Yaya not be a better option than Silva/Nasri as there's a good chance he'll play 90? I'm not chasing as I'm top of my mini league. Nearest rival only has Valencia out of the above. My other starting mids will probably be VDV, Bale and Siggy.

    Aguero or Tevez?

Aguero edges it for being nailed on and pens.?

or could Tevez be a good diff (“I think Carlos is destined to score the most important goal in the history of this club.”)?
