Antolin Alcaraz keeps Wigan in the Premier League with a dramatic late winner at Ewood Park. Jean Beausejour proves to be the key creator once again as the Latics chalk up their sixth victory in the last eight Gameweeks. Blackburn, on the other hand, are relegated to the Championship after another dire display:

Antolin Alcaraz
The Latics may been outstanding at the back in recent home games – their last three at the DW have seen clean sheets picked up against Stoke, United and Newcastle – but on the road, it’s been a different matter altogether. Roberto Martinez’s side had returned a single away clean sheet all season prior to last night, in their very first road trip at Swansea back in Gameweek 2. Alcaraz’s winner in the 1-0 triumph means he has now returned a couple of goals and four clean sheets in the last seven Gameweeks and, with the maximum bonus points in the bag, has averaged over 6 points per game over that period of time – more than any other player in Martinez’s side since Gameweek 31 onwards. His presence at the back is clearly vital – the Latics have seven clean sheets in the 25 games Alcaraz has featured in, compared to a single clean sheet in the 12 matches he missed through injury.

Jean Beausejour
The former Birmingham man has been a crucial component of the Latics’ 3-4-2-1 system since joining back in January. Beausejour has started every match from Gameweek 23 onwards and has picked up in consistency over the last few Gameweeks. Last night’s assist for Alcaraz’s last-minute goal was his fourth in his last seven appearances but, despite his recent form, a mere 103 Fantasy managers drafted him in prior to Saturday’s deadline – Victor Moses was snapped up by over 93,000 Fantasy owners in comparison. With the pressure now off, it’s basically a straight fight between Bolton and QPR to avoid the drop; Wigan, on the other hand, play host to relegated Wolves next Sunday and, given their outstanding run of form, more Fantasy managers will be turning to the Latics as the season draws to a close.

Yakubu
Blackburn’s Ewood Park blank was the fifth time in the last seven matches Steve Kean’s side have failed to find the net, with their over-reliance on the Nigerian’s goals proving their undoing. While Yakubu has netted 16 times this term, averaging 4.7 points per game (almost on a par with Juan Mata’s 4.8, for example) he has found the net in just two of his last 12 matches – with the goals drying up for the summer signing, only Junior Hoilett, with seven strikes all season, has stepped up. With confidence rock bottom and the fans venting their fury, a trip to the Bridge next Sunday could see plenty snapping up Chelsea’s assets as they seek to finish the season with a win over Kean’s beleaguered side.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Could maybe do Pienaar to Bale or Valencia.

I know for a fact Elnino can't have both Aguero and Silva for less than an 8 point hit so it puts me in the driving seat. It's his Moses and Huth that I'm worried about!

Love having Aguero as it makes the captain choice this week soooo easy.

Would pretty much be my team if my rival (25 points in front) didn't have Aguero (c). If you can't go Aguero then who would you go for?

      current front seven:

      VDV Bale Dempsey Siggy
      RVP Jelly Rooney

      Rival has
      VDV Bale Moses Valencia
      Aguero (c) RVP Torres

He has a great front 7 this week to be honest...I think if you have a chance of beating him it would probably be best to get a City mid and maybe leave it at that as he has all the other differentials already!

Yep, I think I am struggling. Midfield would be the option, but I just don't see Silva scoring sufficient points to overtake him. Rooney to Tevez(c) would be another option to make up points, but I don't like that either.
Was thinking of a super punt and bringing in Ivanovic and captaining him. A clean sheet and goal would propel him close to 30 points (with bonus). What do you think?

Tevez and Ivanovic are great different differentials for you to bring against his team. Seems you don't need me to offer any advice if you can think of these yourself!

Thx... just need a crystal ball!
Tevez is safer, but then I give up potential Rooney points. Ivanovic is very risky but at least it ups the total number of differentials between our teams another one.
I guess the question is... who scores more.... Rooney and Ivanovic (c) or Tevez (c) and Cueller !!!

Thanks. Yes, that would be safer I suppose. Rooney to Tevez and Bale (rival has Bale) to Mata/Lampard would be my preferred option, but guessing the Chelsea line up is such a challenge, even bigger risk for a -4.

@Doosra, just saw your comment a couple of pages back, I did add a name in my Euro profile last night though it didn't pick it up in the Euro league. Probably won't have time to fire up the laptop tonight to sort it out but rest assured I will resolve it 🙂

    Hey everyone,

What would you consider to be an "insurmountable" lead to over come in 1 GW.

probably 40 points, depends on the difference of the two teams...

Would depend on how many players you shared with the other person. 1 is insurmountable if you have all the same players.

        Cheers everyone,

All the chatter on the previosus page about guys losing a 40pt lead on the last day kinda freaked me out.

would you not taking any hits if leading by 54pts.?

Would stay off the hits. In reality no number of points is 100% safe. As I say it depends on just how many players you share with the other person. To lose a 40 point lead is incredibly unlucky but all it takes is for you to captain someone who goes on a romp and for the other person to not have that player and captain a blank and its 40 points.

Kompany or any other defender worth a hit to bring in? Will be left playing Taiwo otherwise.

PP Cup final & just a few points outside top 1k so want to make sure I get it right!!

After bowing out in the semi's of the members cup nice to get a shot again not something that happens often!! Upagainst DrD in the final and he has no City coverage currently although I assume will mirror my Roo>Aguero transfer.

      Not looking likely:

"Jonny Evans is also likely to the miss Sunderland game, with an injury sustained when Darron Gibson trod on his foot against Everton also worse than had been first thought. Evans was forced to pull out yesterday from a testimonial game for the former United player Harry Gregg, scheduled for Belfast next week." Telegraph.

Right so with a 20pt lead to catch up in and a very similar team to the two rivals above me ive decided on my "differential punt" to try a claw the lead back.

The one..... The only..... Grant Holt 😀

    Have just seen this:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-17987182

I am an NI fan myself and I was pretty distraught when it was confirmed McClean was going to play for the Republic as we really need a spark somewhere and he would have been great. Unfortunately it wasn't to be for us. It makes me sick that we STILL have people like this in our community here in Northern Ireland, though =o(

Evans (inj), Sagna (inj), Wheater (inj), Simpson (inj), Caulker.

wow, that's horribly unlucky. I'd prob just do Sagna -> Clichy...then play Clichy, Caulker and Simpson.

If Simp is def out then maybe look at replacing him...as a 4 point hit will only cost you 2 points anyway...
