Sergio Aguero runs amok as Man City see off a Malaysia XI 3-1. A dazzling solo goal and a couple of assists served Fantasy managers a devastating reminder of his current form, with Carlos Tevez and Adam Johnson also finding the net. Scans reveal Gareth Bale looks to have escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s challenge in Spurs’ friendly with Liverpool last Saturday:

Malaysia XI 1 Man City 3
After Vincent Kompany flew home on Sunday to be treated for a calf problem, Roberto Mancini reshuffled his defensive options for yesterday’s match with a Malaysia XI. City kept faith in their new 3-5-2 formation once again and, with Pablo Zabaleta slotting into the back-three – Adam Johnson was handed a rare starting role on the right flank, Yaya Toure maintained his attacking central midfield role, while Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez started up front once again.

As City’s fitness increases with every passing game, Aguero’s influence continues to grow. Yesterday, he produced a masterclass and played a part in all three of his side’s goals – a clear indication of his menace ahead of the new season. Within the first 10 minutes he had a goal disallowed for offside and also hit the bar before a fantastic solo effort opened the scoring on 17 minutes; dancing round four opposition defenders, the Argentine found the net after executing a deft chip over the keeper to grab his second in the past three games.

City went in at the break one up but Aguero then turned creator just three minutes into the second-half, teeing up Tevez for the second. Only four minutes later, the former Atletico Madrid was at it again – this time a superb chip found Johnson inside the box and the winger wrong-footed the keeper to notch City’s third. Roberto Mancini made six changes as the game progressed and, much to the home side’s relief, withdrew Aguero after 70 minutes; the hosts’ late consolation failed to take the shine off a strong display from the Premier League champions, who have now won three in a row and conceded a single goal in their last four matches.

Post-match, Mancini revealed that Kompany’s calf problem is “nothing serious”, while going on to praise the performances of his front pair ahead of the new season, saying:

We were confident two weeks ago and I’m even more confident today. Sergio played very well and his partnership with Carlos has continued from last season. They scored a goal each today which is good. Hopefully we can continue his good form in the coming season.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon (Johansen 75); Savic, K Toure (Boyata 76), Zabaleta; A Johnson, Razak, Y Toure (Scapuzzi 58), Suarez (Evans 64) , Kolarov; Tevez (Mancini 76), Aguero (Lopes 70)

In Other News…
Reports in the Mail suggest Gareth Bale has escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s tackle in Spurs’ goalless draw with Liverpool on Saturday. The Welshman has returned to light training after scans allayed fears of a possible lengthy absence ahead of the new season – Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas played down the suggestion of the matter being reported to the FA but once again called for Adam to make an apology:

Needless to say, we are extremely relieved Gareth has not been seriously injured. There is previous history between the two players on the challenge that was done I think three years ago. Will we take it any further? We are discussing it within the club but in my opinion, the matter is dealt. But it would be extremely human for Charlie to come out with an apology. But you can’t force people to say anything and we will have to wait and see.

    REPOST (page end)

Interesting write up of the Spurs-Pool game by an American FF journo:

“If there was one take-away for me it was that it is likely that it will take Liverpool a while to get the hang of the Rodgers system unless they bring in someone like Joe Allen who can orchestrate."

    Folks,

my first post in a new season.

Please RMT, final draft after lot and lot of thinking. Bit generic, but thats the way to start the season. Kagava is only risky spot.

    Freidel / Jaas
    A.Cole / STaylor / Rangel / Hughes / Clyne
    Bale / Kagawa / Sinclair / Noble / Maloney
    Aguero / Torres / Graham

2mil in bank for Torres => Rooney

Does everyone remember how AWESOME Yaya toure was at the end of last season.... hes been playing Attacking CM in pre season behind Sergio and Carlos and at 8.0 he could be a steal!!

Anyone else leaning more towards him than SIlva to save 2.0?

    Currently got:

    DDG
    Terry (C), Lescott, Hangeland
    YAYA, Hazard, Guthrie, Sinclair,
    Aguero, Torres, Pogrebnyak

Only playing the reading players for the DGW and will do Torres to Rooney after GW1 with 2.0 remaining...

    Thoughts on both?

Possible but United need him quickly, can't be throwing away good chances to win games. They need that spark, might as well throw him in at the start with the easy fixtures to adjust to life in the PL.

Midfield and attack obviously very strong.
Defence Hangeland and Rangel could easily score as many points as Lescott & Cole in the first 10 weeks.
West Ham & Stoke have perfect 3rd choice defender rotation.

          No problemo.

          Start with attack.
Rooney obviously is very strong, issue is RVP if he moves. That could hinder Rooney, a lot.
Tevez is good but rotaton is a big factor.
Torres is coming back to form but Chelsea are very difficult to predict right now still for the DGW Torres isn't a bad shout.

          Mids.
Hazard, big money for someone who's never played in the EPL plus huge rotation in the Chelsea middle.
Lamps, definitely going to be rotated now that Oscar is in.
VDV is injury prone and has his shaky moments.
Maloney I like as a cheap choice.
Noble too as a cheapy is okay.

          Defence.
All hinges on Hangeland performing well which he didn't last year. Rangel has good fixtures and is good defensively. The rest are all cheap options that will get a few cleanies over the season but will have some bad defeats too.

Hughes V Kelly for Fulham, will both start, not sure which one to go for? Demel for West ham definite starter?

New to the site, would love some feedback on my team!

    GW1:
    Federici
    Cole - Kelly - Colocinni
    Ramires - Guthrie - Silva - Noble
    Jelavic Aguero (vc) Torres (c)

    subs: Friedel, Larrson, Rangel, Demel

    Larsson Vs Pienaar any insight?
2 mil in the bank for Torres -> Rooney (assuming Torres looks so so)

Excellent thanks for that, what's the consensus on Harte? Haven't seen too many with him, he does take all the set pieces (Pog could be dangerous from set pieces) and has a double GW.

Rotating keepers isn't always the way. As you say that's expensive and there's no guarantees - and Szczesny is a bit shit.

I'd say better to rotate cheaper keepers if you are obsessed about home CS. Or pick one more expensive/reliable GK and one cheaper one that rotates well.

      Thanks for the comments y'all

I was working out PPM (points per million), based on total points last season and this season's starting price:

      Vorm - 28.7
      Krul - 28.4
      Friedel - 27.8
      Szczesny - 25.3
      Hart - 23.7

From that, it seemed like a good idea, with the great rotation, but 11.0 sure is a lot...

Wrote this on Friday about Andy Carroll's impact on the West Ham setup, if he were to join them. After the news on Saturday that he wouldn't consider moving to a team not playing in Europe, I thought it was a wasted effort... but seems like the move is back on (or at least not off, again, yet). As always, hope it's a decent read and welcome any comments:

this is the best balance i can get, after lots of deliberation...

    DDG/Begovic

    A.Cole/Lescott/Cuellar/McCartney/Demel

Mata/Bale/Hazard/Noble/Marveaux(or any 4.5 mid that is the best option by GW1)

    Torres/Tevez/Petric

2.0 in bank, defence rotates pretty well for a while.

Got my eye on Santos or Koscielny/Dawson for a potentially cheap 40 game rotation.
