As the transfer window edges a little nearer to closing, David Moyes continued to bolster Everton’s attacking options with the purchase of Belgian international Kevin Mirallas from Olympiacos on a four- year contract. The 24-year old arrives at Goodison Park in a deal rumoured to be around £5m and is the Toffees’ third acquisition of the summer, following the signings of Steven Pienaar and Steven Naismith:

David Moyes has wasted little time in his quest to re-invest the cash acquired for the sale of Jack Rodwell to Man City and the Everton boss was delighted to clinch Mirallas’ signature after a host of clubs were linked with a move for the player. Speaking to the club’s official website upon completion of the move, Moyes explained:

We’re really pleased to get Kevin. He’ll hopefully add a bit of quality to the squad, give us some more options and we need him. We’ve lost one of two players so we’re delighted to get Kevin in.

The Statistics

Mirallas’ career began as a youth in his native country with Standard Liege but he was snapped up by French outfit Lille before he could make a single first-team appearance. Mirallas struggled to establish himself as a regular over his four seasons at the Ligue 1 club, however, and, although he finally nailed down a place in his final campaign, a return of 10 goals and seven assists in 76 appearances saw him sold to St Etienne in the summer of 2008.

The Belgian continued to struggle during his time in France, however; over two campaigns with “Les Verts” he managed a mere three goals and three assists in 53 league matches before making his way to Olympiacos on a one-year loan deal. Mirallas was an instant impact in his new surroundings –14 goals and a trio of assists in 27 games saw him fire the club to the league title and earn a permanent contract at the Greek outfit. Last term he was even more clinical, with 20 goals and seven assists in 25 matches helping the club retain the title. Mirallas has represented his country at every level from Under 16 to Under 21 and has scored five times in 26 appearances for the Belgian senior side.

The Prospects

There’s no doubt Mirallas will add a much-need attacking threat to a Toffees side that struggled to find the net last term until the January arrival of Nikica Jelavic from Glasgow Rangers. His versatility could be key in assessing the 6 foot Belgian’s game time – he can play on either wing, in “the hole” or also lead the line. At the moment, it’s a case of “wait and see” and bearing in mind he was signed after the deadline to be eligible for last night’s United match, we could see our first glimpse at the weekend away to Villa.

Intriguingly, Mirallas was used to great effect as an inverted winger on the left by Olympiacos, cutting inside on to his favoured right foot to devastating effect. Such a move could see Pienaar used more centrally – it’s worth noting that the South African briefly featured in “the hole” in a pre-season match and with Moyes keen to ease Naismith back into fitness after the summer signing spent much of last season injured at Rangers, it’s certainly an option. Alternatively, Mirallas could tuck in behind Jelavic in Moyes’ preferred 4-5-1 – a move which would see compatriot Marouane Fellaini drop into a deeper role – or he could move to the right, where his arrival could well impact on the likes of Leon Osman.

Mirallas has yet to be added to any of the Fantasy games, with his classification key to how we assess him. A price between 6.5 and 7.5 perhaps seems the likeliest of outcomes in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) regardless of classification, though with Pienaar at 6.5 and Jelavic 8.5, he’ll face a struggle to oust either in many a Fantasy managers’ estimations.

With their home clash against United now out the way, Everton now face a tricky schedule that sees them hit the road in five of the next seven Gameweeks. Bearing in mind that one of their two home matches is against Newcastle, Fantasy managers will be content to keep their distance, holding back any major investment in Mirallas until his place within Moyes’ plans becomes far more apparent.

have VDV in my team, and think he can do well at home when plays, but putting the armband on him is a bit much maybe...

i cant. suits me right for
A - being cheap and not buying bale
B - trusting AVB to not be suicidal.

a side move from VDV to bale just looks liek a waste of transfer - since i have him, if he does play, he is explosive - and he has a very tasty fxture...

Gamble with your team, not your captain choices... That's a Commandment, isn't it?

I'm all for breaking the rules when the time is right.

VDV is a good enough choice without the armband... but you gotta do what you gotta do and so forth.

Does anyone follow Aguero on Twitter? Or count him as a close acquaintance?

I don't even have him in my team, I'd just like to know if my Mini-League rivals are going to have a headache or not.

Everyone still confident on Rooney? He is a different animal at home, going by the last half of last season.

RVP will massively reduce Rooney's goalscoring. He's good at home but he still loves coming deep to find the ball and with RVP staying up top he won't burst forward as much imo.

both are something like 2.0 overpriced..

He just doesn't look right to me, unfit, lacking that edge that he usually has and was just unable to influence the game enough. I think I'm gonna hold back on him until a few games in when he's more match fit.

    Rio Ferdinand to who?
    my team
    Hart, Gazziniga
    Vidic,Zab,Jose E, R.Ferdinand, (Clyne)
    Mata,Bale,Allen,(Maloney,Noble)
    Torres,Tevez, Petric

for next week i am goin Vidic(C)
and playing Maloney and Noble over Jose E and Allen
    (due to fixtures)
i have clynne who could potentially play over maloney and or R.Ferdinand

i was thinking i could use this week to cash Rio in for Demel or a 4mil def
and then next week upgrade one of my 3 cheaper mids to Barfa

or Ferdinand < Walker for spurs def coverage though i don't like AVB defensively
    other picks i thought about
Cuellar, McCartney(to be benched/considered with Clynne), Hangeland(to be benched and used the next week) Jenkinson/Mertersaker though i think they are both sh1te and neither one would be nailed on (Kos if he's back) or Distin/Jag if they are nailed on because they was awesome vs United (Distin preferably)
or other i am open to suggestions

so i will be watching United to see if Rafa looks set, if not Demel sounds pretty handy (also he is the closest 4mil def to going up in price)

Well, my GW1 miserable 31 point haul has led me into a classic knee-jerk 4 point hit.
I did Ramires to Michu before the first price rise and I did Aguero to Defoe last night.

    Green (nor)
Clyne (WIG), Terry (NEW), Zabaleta (liv).
VDV (WBA) (C), Valencia (FUL), Michu (WHM), Ireland (EVE)

You not gonna be scared about Spurs bringing in a new forward and playing them ahead of Defoe? Otherwise you should be fine, I don't rate Ireland...

If it's Adebayor..will he be fit enough? (match fitness). I think Defoe is nailed on for at least another 3 GWs

Have been following the Adebayor story quite closely and thinking the deal may go through before the end of the week.

Think Valencia will do much much better if played as a winger which he should this week.

Welcome aboard the Michu train (I WC'ed and got him in before the price rise too)

Got a slim chance of winning the Player exchange thing for this month. Thinking of heavily backing one player

Was thinking someone like Defoe but I might be too far behind to back a striker.

Ian Harte is another one he is a defender and on free kicks, but it may be too risky?

    Any ideas?

Simple question, really. But your response gets to the real meaning here, which is: every team has despicable supporters chanting horrid things. And the FA should do more about it, but they don't/won't. And we all despise it.

But thanks for your posturing from your high moral platform and taking the opportunity to slag United. Well done.

If true fair comment, but it also exposes a great stupidity, why would United fans sing about Hillsbrough to Everton, it makes no sense. Not that singing about Hillsbrough is right, regardless of who it's sung to.

erm no. He has no source to back it up. It was Liverpool Football Club, not Everton Football Club that were involved in Hillsbrough, and any chanting that has been done (not that I condone it) is usually aimed at them. Everton fans and Man Utd fans have generally had good relations.

So, I'd ask you to look in the mirror, re-ask that question and don't dare disgrace the image of Mo Farah with that crap

Jimmy Greaves thought so too. Seriously, I think it's a decent call. I'm half tempted myself

But Bent looks so isolated and Everton are in supreme form..

I've been of the FFL radar for a little while... does that site still exist where you can see what players are about to change price?

    GW2 team...
    de Gea
    Clyne, Ivanovic, Cuellar
    Bale, N'Zogbia, Gerrard, Ramires
    Graham, Torres, Tevez
    (Federici, Zabaleta, Marveaux, Hughes)

should I make the Torres to Roon switch...
    bring in someone for Ramires...
I have Graham so do I need to grab Michu...

Not a risk but he seems off his game. Either post-Ramadan fasting or change of system to have Ba up front with him. Quite nasty fixtures too. I'd leave him until he shows some form.

imo i think he's less of a risk than Ba, even w/ the price diff.

RvP will have had 2 weeks full training at Utd before the fulham game. He'll get 60mins imo.
