With Chelsea skipping the Gameweek, the early season form of Swansea and Everton ensures that their Fantasy assets hold firm in our Watchlist rankings. Up front, both Carlos Tevez and Robin Van Persie continue to stand out as the heavyweights of choice…

Goalkeepers

Two clean sheets in two, it’s little wonder that we see Michel Vorm retain top spot in the keeper rankings. Tim Howard climbs to second off the back of Everton’s superb start to the season – his fixtures also improve in the coming weeks, and with Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin in such strong form, further clean sheets seem likely. Howard looks a good option in goal for those without the funds to stretch to the raiding Leighton Baines.

Joe Hart’s lack of clean sheets will be a concern but with Vincent Kompany now seemingly the only secure option in front of him, the City stopper’s stock takes a rise for the month ahead for those willing to spend in this area. Hart remains the favourite as top ranked keeper, despite the early stutters and is your “fire and forget†option.

West Brom’s Ben Foster looks a decent option in the mid-price along with Newcastle’s Tim Krul, who now begins to benefit from a stronger schedule. Meanwhile, Brad Friedel has the fixture list on his side but his stock has taken a knock following persistent speculation surrounding the signing of Hugo Lloris at Spurs. Wigan’s Ali Al-Habsi is your budget option lower down the rankings, with Jussi Jaaskaleinan also worth a glance or two.

Defenders

Angel Rangel retains top spot, having superseded team-mate Chico following the doubts surrounding the centre-back’s fitness going into the win over West Ham. Rangel justified the backing with a goal and clean sheet return, and with fixtures remaining strong, the enterprising right-back holds firm under pressure from Everton’s Leighton Baines in second. Baines’ form epitomises the Toffees right now and, if you’re investing heavily in your defence, the left-back looks the prize option on offer.

With clean sheets so hard to find, the temptation is to opt for cheap options and those defenders that offer attacking potential – Wigan’s Emmerson Boyce fits the bill in both cases and claims a spot in our top five courtesy of some strong short-term fixtures.

While City’s defensive returns have been non-existent, an improved fixture list, and the fact that he stands out as the only apparently secure option, boosts Vincent Kompany in our thinking for the month ahead. He clings to a top five spot, with Tottenham’s Kyle Walker just retaining his place in that select group.

There are a host of mid-price options to consider below that, with West Brom’s Liam Ridgewell and Newcastle’s Steven Taylor appearing to offer decent potential.

Midfielders

Our faith in Gareth Bale wavers but Tottenham’s fixtue list remains strong enough to help him retain his top ranking, holding off the charge from United’s Shinji Kagawa, who now looks set to benefit from Wayne Rooney’s injury with a run of assured starts.

In truth, Eden Hazard would be sitting on top of the rankings had it not been for his blank at the weekend so, right now, he looks up on the likes of Hatem Ben Afra, Yaya Toure, Michu and Marouanne Fellaini as mid-price options. The latter just gets the nod over team-mate Steven Pienaar, although it’s ridiculously close between them – Fellaini’s goal threat just gives him the edge right now, while he continues to be deployed in support of Nikaca Jelavic.

Forwards

It’s no surprise to see Carlos Tevez remain on top here following his returns at Anfield on Sunday. Robin Van Persie cements his second place rank following Rooney’s injury, while Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse is the significant climber in third. The Senegalese striker now has stronger fixtures to come and will surely be well backed to break his duck for the season against Aston Villa this weekend.

Both Nikica Jelevic and Emmanuel Adebayor surely have goals to come given their forthcoming schedules, while Swansea’s Danny Graham still looks the strongest option in the budget bracket over the next month, having opened his account in the win over West Ham.

Lower down there are some great differentials if you want them – Fulham’s Mladen Petric rivals Graham in the budget bracket, as does Wigan’s Arouna Kone who impressed with his first strike at Southampton in Saturday’s win.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

On the last page, someone asked in Lloris was coming. The only thing holding it back in Lloris himself should he choose to -- the clubs have agreed a fee, so it's on Lloris and I think he will come.

yeah, might jus take the gamble. reckon kacaniklic will score 2-5pts. a defoe goal frm the bench would equal that..and also be more exciting.

or they could both do sfa, dont have too much pinned on it anyhow.

Afternoon! Just two questions if anyone could help/advise

    A) Does anyone know where Miyaichi has been? I thought he would start in place of Moses but he wasn't even in the squad. I'm presuming he is just catching up on pre-season?

    B) Play Demel or Hangeland? I know, if in doubt play the home player but Fulham have been looking pretty decent, anyone see them keeping a CS?

Fulham are generally pretty unreliable away from home, and I think West Ham should be fairly solid at home throughout the season.

      I'd play Demel.

Really? Interesting, I'm probably just blindly falling for the myth that Fulham are dodgy on the road.

Yeah, they kept 6 clean sheets away from home last season. Much better than I expected!

          Pick Hangeland!

You lose a shocking amount of away CS in rotation, more than I expected when I did the calculations. Only thing pushing me back to it is the poor defending from city and united. Could maybe stick with Chewls, but who's nailed?

Should have added word 'cheap', soz. Kind of my point - difficult even to back them with a minimum price of 6.5. Cole attacking points look a little less spectacular than Ivan's. Thoughts?

Might be biased here tho, I (for some reason) really like Fulham and think they will do well in the next 6-7 fixtures, imo they have better fixtures than Swansea and Newcastle

Fulham are relying more on their attacking play this season by the look of it (and last season) and are certainly capable of scoring.

To be honest I think both will concede, so I really should have asked, who has the greater potential for attacking returns. Obviously Hangeland will be up for corners but I haven't seen enough of Demel to know if he is going to be an attacking threat

      a) I'm not sure Miyaichi will get as much gametime as he did at Bolton personally - what with Beausejour and Maloney both very good options down the left. He might be a good impact sub though

      b) I'm in the unenviable position of needing to play both! I would favour Hangeland though, if Fulham can score 2 at OT I'm sure they'll score at Upton Park

I think Petric and Graham are a good couple of strikers to have in your side to free up cash for some other big hitters. I also see the point on RVP benefiting in Rooney's absence. This also backs this up http://www.onestopbetshop.co.uk/A55D88/onestop.nsf/OSBS_Display_Blog.xsp?action=openDocument&documentId=723FF8D327117A3986257A670072BAAB

      +1

I'm still not totally convinced that RVP is value for money so Tevez is the only striker I would consider a 'must have' for the next few gameweeks. Given that, it seems to make sense to save a bit of cash up front to invest in midfield, where the likes of Hazard, Michu, Kagawa are taking off.

My only concern with Graham is that with Michu in midfield, it might be slightly overkill on Swansea attacking returns.

Could be a LOT of goals in Liverpool v Arsenal IMO. Two teams built quite similarly IMO, mobile front three, technical middle three (esp with Sahin joining), both play quite high lines defensively. Arsenal defence has improved under Bould though while Skrtel and Agger seem to have stepped back.

Apologies for the WUM but could have a 5-3/5-2 classic on our hands here 😉

Very much a crab move but Kagawas price will continue to go up in the next few weeks while their point tallies will probably be around the same.

Casuals like new signings, players with high ownership and player with the most points from a given side is my thinking. Neither are captain material in my eyes so if Valencia does go nuts I won't get burnt too much.

                  Awesome start btw

Baines, Hangeland, Rangel, Rafael & Demel

Kagawa, Hazard, Barfa, Michu & Pienaar

With the other 1.0m I'm thinking of bailing out of Begovic even though he got a cleanie but his fixtures appear tricky in the short term and replacing with Howard. This make sense? Or stick and save the money? Already have Fulham/Swansea/Newcastle so that rules out Schwarzer/Vorm/Krul. I think Howard and a 4.0m bench warmer is a good cheap opion and obviously play every week?

            Team will be after GW4:

            Howard
            Hangeland Collocini Rangel
            Kagawa Hazard Nolan Pienaar
            Torres Tevez RVP

Bench (cheap as chips!) Rudd Guthrie Clyne McCartney

I was going to include all the top five in an attacking sense with Siggy and Cazorla. But for my money they are too hit and miss as Bale hasn't scored for ages, Siggy/VDV rotation issues, Cazorla as good as he is who is going to score? So am heavily covering City/Utd/Chels with a bit of Everton.

I like Baines but Pienaar/Howard is enough for me. I had Pienaar in mind from the off so don't want to swap him out now. Only thing I'm missing out on is Michu but can downgrade Kagawa if he keeps this run going and Fergie starts rotating etc but I think he's safe in the short term and will score points linking with RVP in the coming weeks and Michu surey will tail off?!!

I also have the flexibility of cashing in RVP for Aguero/Rooney to raise funds at a later date. RVP>Aguero and save 2.0m could be worth doing in time to come.

What are people's views on Siggy? Had hoped he'd be a sure starter given ok pre-season form and ability to play different postions...
Do you think he'll start vs. Norwich?
Need to make room for Kagawa somewhere and need to bin one of below =
            Dyer (good fixtures)
            Kacan (good cheap bench warmer)
Siggy (great fixtures, but worried he's not going to play!)

I think Sunderland will get something against Swansea though, perhaps 1-1 in that.

Also think City will keep a CS with United conceding.

Made my 2 transfers already, had planned not to take any 4 points hit but, well, what can ya do..

            Torres & Ivanovic -> RVP & Baines.

I'm sure Torres will be back in my squad at some stage if he keeps continuing to improve. Baines looked to be at the heart of all Everton's attacking play, I always seem to miss the boat on Baines' high scoring though.

              De Gea, (5.0 keeper)

              Hazard, Michu, Cazorla, Fellaini, Barkley
              Tevez, Van Persie, Graham

0.0 remaining, so cutting it pretty fine. I guess I could skimp out on the keeper, but any opinions are welcome.

OK - so here is my rationalisation of why i am not wildcarding (i am taking 4 pt hit) despite my dreadful start ( i realise i am largely trying to convince myself)

              1. there will be some players who perform in GW1-2 who do shite for rest of year - the data set is too small to accurately judge future performance.
              2. notion of "season keeper" is largely nonsense (RVP last year was an example of a non recurring phenomenon) - there will be times you want Hazard then Silva then Cazorla then etc.... Michu may easily (probably) go 10 GWs without a goal
              3. Team value is important but not critical - the top players will not have uber high team values as season progresses. And we will see irrelvant debates about team value in March (largely from those with poor overall rankings)
              4. Self esteem - FPL pain is particuarly acute when you jump on a bandwagon after all the damage has been done by that player. Dont attend the funeral if you did not get an invite to the wedding.

Obviously i could be 100% wrong and Michu, Hazard, Rangel, Feilani/Pienaar will continue to smash it up all Autumn.

                1) Fellaini
                2) Tevez
                3) Points make prizes
                4) Rangel

              - 5.0 keeper to Bego/Fed
              - Cazorla to Kagawa
              - Ivan to Baines

              Besides that good team

                My predictions:
                West Brom 1 Everton 1
                Everton 0 Newcastle 2
                Swansea 1 Everton 1
                Everton 2 South 0
                Wigan 2 Everton 1

                5 goals 1 CS

                For me Baines can wait.
