Sir Alex Ferguson has handed Fantasy managers a major boost this morning by revealing Robin Van Persie will be fit to face Wigan tomorrow afternoon. The Dutchman was subbed off at half-time by Louis Van Gaal in his nation’s 4-1 win over Hungary on Wednesday and with no official club statement, many had feared the worst.

Hardly known for his quick healing powers, Van Persie’s availability is of significant news this weekend, with a substantial majority expected to hand him the captaincy ahead of the Latics clash. With four goals in his first two starts for United, Van Persie has wasted little time in maintaining his outstanding scoring record in the Premier League and with Wayne Rooney still absent due to a thigh injury, Ferguson – like many of us – will be heavily reliant on his summer signing from Arsenal to continuing his scoring spree tomorrow.

Ferguson confirmed at this afternoon’s eagerly-awaited press conference:

On the injury front, everyone’s fit….You always have concerns about players travelling [long distances] in international breaks – we had Chicharito, Valencia and Kagawa. They’ve all done it before, although with Shinji we don’t know exactly how he reacts to travelling back from long distances. Hopefully he’ll be okay.

As the fixture schedule now starts to pick up, Ferguson certainly doesn’t need to take any unnecessary risks. United face Galatasaray at Old Trafford next Wednesday before embarking on a tricky run of league matches which sees them travel to (liv, new, che) and a certain degree of rotation up top can be expected, with the likes of Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez set to pick up more game time over the next few weeks. For now, though, Ferguson’s words have soothed us and offered plenty assurance – we can forge ahead with our Fantasy plans for the weekend with confidence renewed.

    Just played my wildcard, what do people think of this;

    Foster, Bego

    Baines, Cuellar, Jenkinson, Ridgewell, Clyne

    Hazard, Yaya, Pienaar, Michu, Maloney

    RVP, Tevez, Fletcher

I might drop Fletcher to Lambert to get Cazorla in for Yaya, but that's just personal preference. Not a bad team at all.

Thanks, thats a decent shout, I had also been weighing up Fletcher to Lambert so I can go Pienaar to Ben Arfa. Too many choices!

I think Fletcher will do well at Sunderland, he's proven in the prem and should get a few chances with Sess, McClean, Larsson and Johnson.

    Yo Ho Hooo...

Are we thinking a team shaped likes this is sufficient enough bar any freak accidents or bad luck?:

    GK: Foster, Beg
DEF: Baines, Ridgewell, Cuellar, Gibbs, Demel
MID: Haz, Caz, Michu, Pienaar, Guthrie
    FWD: RVP, Tevez, Graham

Graham to Lambert after this GW...and just to confirm again:

    A) Gibbs and Guthrie
    B) Saylor and Maloney
    C) Rangel and (Maloney or Guthrie...?)

    Thanks...

so it appears my ML leader has started a mass panic by hitting the wc button. Since he's done it another 4 have followed him, and 2 have already used theirs. This leaves me in a great position, with transfer plans in place, a catchable gap and a wc in my pocket for a rainy day. Just hope his wc doesn't blow me out the water, as would dearly love to not have to hit the button on Saturday

Reading will keep clean sheets over the season, more than West Ham or Southampton IMO. Crucially both Gorkss and Gunter are goal threats, I don't think Demel is.

I know on paper it's not an easy fixture, but Spurs are completely out of form and West Ham will surely concede anyway.

Lateriser...saw your post last page, I am strongly considering it, I've narrowed it down to him or Hazard. I'm tempted because he's my Home striker and I think Arsenal will score a few. Everyone's confident about Cazorla and Giroud is the guy who will get on the end of his assists. Also Southampton look leaky in defence. It's going to be a tight call between him and Hazard. I've got him on vc at the moment...

Guthrie, he's a home to a side struggling defensively. Although Lambert can score v anyone, Arsenal are defending really well atm and are at home.

    Mrs China Mag's WC team

    Mignolt, Begovic
Big Verm, Ridgewell, Cuellar, Demel, Gorks
    Hazard, Toure, Michu, Dyer, Guthrie
    RVP, Tevez, Jelavic

I don't mind doubling up on swansea attackers for their great fixtures
I could downgrade Jelavic, and upgrade Toure or Michu, but no-one really stands out. My own team has Cazorla, so don't really want to double up
Big Verm will probably stay as Ivanovic for a couple of games

    Thoughts?

Out of interest, does Mrs China Mag have a well-defined alternative strategy to yours? Or is it just different individual picks?

It always starts as different strategies (and different picks). Mine was supposed to be a mix of big hitters and cheapies, hers was a more balanced team. But that is REALLY hard to keep up. Now we just pick the strongest team, while trying to keep the players different. With the above team, only Cuellar and Guthrie will be in my team. To me they are no brainers (you will see that I still have marveaux!!, but he will become guthrie when I get a chance, unless he starts to play!!)

I am. Laudrup's statement suggests that he'll share gametime with the new guy and 4.0m for a swan defender who will sometimes play sounds like good value to me, as long as the rest of your defence can cope with that.
