Luis Suarez isn’t everyone’s favourite player. Impromptu goalkeeping, the Patrice Evra incident and a baffling vendetta against woodwork comprise the newsworthy misadventures of a man equally distinguished by his managers’ favour and the public contempt. But whilst his unequivocal admirers might be restricted to the Kop and the carpentry trade, Fantasy managers can ill afford to be too picky with their heroes in a game that measures virtue purely in terms of points.

A stuttering start to the season can be excused in a team unsettled by a wearying saga of tactical and managerial revolutions on Merseyside, and if the optimism that attended Brendan Rodgers’ arrival has been somewhat subdued by Liverpool’s unflattering league position, strong performances against Sunderland and United in recent weeks suggest that the tide is turning.

In terms of shots on target and chances created over the last two weeks Liverpool are in the Champions League spots, and whilst new acquisition Joe Allen and youth team graduate Raheem Sterling have gelled seamlessly in Rogers’ favoured 4-3-3, the comparatively innocuous exploits of Fabio Borini only serve to cement Suarez’s role as the indispensable spearhead of the Liverpool attack.

Whilst Steven Fletcher, Dimitar Berbatov and Ricky Lambert have hogged the headlines and cast an understandable shade over Suarez’s recent performances, that darkness may provide a propitious advantage to those Fantasy managers armed with the sober and impartial light of OPTA stats. Indeed, Suarez has eclipsed his acclaimed competitors in several key areas, and whilst he shows no inclination to forfeit his post-hitting pre-eminence, his threat stats augur an imminent improvement of his already-respectable tally of two goals in five games.

Norwich’s combative home form could present a potential banana skin to Liverpool’s attacking aspirations next weekend, but their work-in-progress defence remains susceptible to breach and Suarez’s guile and energy will furnish a stern test – last season’s Carrow Road hat-trick, capped by a memorable 45-yard effort, stands testament to the Uruguayan’s capabilities. Back-to-back home games against a winless Stoke and an incontinent Reading then serve to complete a tempting trio of ties that should provide Rodgers’ resurgent Reds ample opportunity to jump start their campaign.

With the threat of rest and rotation now haunting the footsteps of the hitherto hegemonic Carlos Tevez and Robin Van Persie, Suarez’s comparative security becomes a conspicuous asset and, priced at 9.4 in the Fantasy Premier League and 9.6 in the Sky Sports game, canny investors may be set to reap rewards from Luis’ forthcoming weekends.

    Michu --> Pienaar
    Guthrie --> Nolan

    It will be a -12 point hit, shall I just play Michu to Pienaar this week?

      If I were Mancini I'd want Dzeko against teams that are a threat from set-pieces, so I'd play Dzeko against Sunderland. I have no idea who he'll pick though, he seems to just select a team at random.

      Let's see...

      Hangeland > Baines is the best transfer out of these three. If you don't want to take a hit and decided to do only one transfer, do this one.

      Kagawa>Pienaar this GW is debatable. The possibility of goals between MU and Eve against their opponent at home is about same, although with Soton defense record Eve has slightly better chance to score goals here. However, the possibility of Pienaar involved in Everton goals is slightly higher than Kagawa in MU goals. This is worth a FT, but maybe not a hit.

      Tevez> Aguero this GW is a safe bet considering Tevez game time in the previous GW and Capital One. A goal from Aguero would justify the hit being made, and you would probably made this transfer sooner or later if Aguero is to be their only nailed forward in the league.

      Considering all these factors, if i were you i will probably take that hit. Cheers 😉

    What are you guys doing with Tevez? City have great fixtures coming up, but it would be very uncomfortable to go in this run with a striker not guaranteed to play every game. Could do Tevez to Aguero without a hit. Is it better to sit and wait? Aguero could turn out to be a great differential to Tevez, which everybody seems to have now.

      tevez is at risk of rotation, dont like the look of dyer at the moment, would say defence is weak apart from bains, would put captain to fletcher. its not a bad team but i wouldent say good.

        Yeah I'm not particularly happy with it (defence, Federeci, Dyer & maybe Tevez in particular) but hoping it'll do. In my shoes would you activate your WC and get the 4 points back?

          a WC in your pocket is allway a big advantage but with two 8 point hits you have the team fine. do some planning ahead and see if you can salvage it without a WC.

          also,having watched almost all the games so far, the palakelle stadium(hosting all the matches of the group with srilanka) really looks good for batting whereas the the premadasa is a bowler's paradise.

          will probably go with batsman/WK from group E and bowlers/ARs from the other group(the one with india).

    Anyone else starting to think Mancini's job might be at risk if things don't go so well over the next 2 months? It's either laziness or champions fatigue but there's just something not quite working at the moment. Aguero's comeback might be the boost they need. Even though Mancini is hardly the most likable chap I don't think firing him would be a good idea...but stranger things have happened and another loss in the champions league might have people talking...

      If they don't win a trophy this season, he's gone imo.. I don't rate him as a manger at all, his man managing has been absolutely shocking. He's too quick to comment when there's been an incident, and always mouthing off when things don't go his way. He's stated on two separate occasions that two players would never play for Manchester City again (Balotelli and Tevez) and both those players contributed to helping him winning the title. Only a matter of time I reckon
