Reports are starting to surface that the FA will take no further action on a trio of controversial incidents that occurred in the Gameweek gone by. Robin Van Persie’s alleged elbow on Yohan Cabaye at the Sports Direct Arena was reviewed by Howard Webb and was not considered to be an act of violent conduct, meaning the Dutchman will be available for United’s Gameweek 8 home showdown against Stoke.

The decision will no doubt infuriate Alan Pardew – the Newcastle boss called for Van Persie to be banned after yesterday’s 3-0 loss. United subbed off their summer signing just four minutes after the incident, with Pardew certain of the Dutchman’s intent:

“He has looked at Yohan and he has elbowed him, and I think that perhaps needs to be looked at, if I am honest. There’s a bit of history from last year and I don’t know if Robin has been caught up in that, but that was just a little bit unsavoury. I actually thought Yohan wouldn’t have gone down if he hadn’t done something. I didn’t see it myself, but I have obviously seen it on the replay and it looks like he has looked at him and put his elbow there.”

Pardew did receive some good news, however, after Webb also failed to report Cheick Tiote’s apparent stamp on Tom Cleverley in the same match.

Elsewhere, Robert Huth has escaped a possible suspension for violent conduct. The Stoke defender appeared to stamp on Luis Suarez in yesterday’s goalless draw at Anfield but will not have to face the authorities. This somewhat atones for his failed appeal back in February, where the German was slapped with a three-match ban for a tackle on Sunderland’s David Meyler.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone else know of any players who could potentially rise twice in the next two weeks? Trying to gain value on wildcard.

Without looking at one of the tools; maybe Fonte, Giroud, Aguero, Cleverly?

No idea if they'll go up twice but I imagine they'll get lots of interest.

Fletcher has been scoring big points. So you're basically saying RVP is doing well as he should do at that price. All these posts I keep seeing saying what a waste RVP is sound like people are frustrated because they want the extra cash but they know he is essential.

Fellaini, hit me with some opinions.

Great fixtures, but two blanks, one of which he did not look like scoring at all. On 4 yellows, soon to get his 5th and probably a one match ban.

But the nature of the beast, he could easily come good again soon. At the moment i'm benching him for the next GW, playing Nolan and moving him on for Mata come GW9.

    Right call?

      A. I can't understand benching him at QPR, unless
      B. You have really lost confidence in him as a scoring threat, in which case,
      C. You should just get rid, either for the cheaper Pienaar (who plays give-and-go beautifully with Baines) or for someone like Mata.
      D. I think if you get rid you should get at least some Everton.

Nolan at home to SOU is the more attractive fixture imo and he has a great home record.

I probably should have mentioned I need two transfers to get Mata in, hence benching next GW and then bringing Mata in the week after (sorry for lack of clarity there).

i suppose my feeling is that if I had Fellaini (but not Pienaar or Jelly) I would wait and see for a week or two. I would be gutted to be sitting him this week, but I don't know the rest of your team (and I would be just as gutted sitting Nolan home to SOU).

I'm keeping him in for QPR then getting out for Bale GW9. Can see either a 5th yellow coming and a ban or possibly a red in the merseyside derby GW9. Will just have Baines then but will continue to monitor Pienaar (possible replacement for Nolan GW10) and Jelavic

Would definitely bench Williamson. I also don't think he'll start as Pardew is confident Taylor and Colo will be back. Benching Wilson is bit of a no-brainer.

Your front 8 is where the benching-problem lies. Has to be Pienaar / Sterling / Lambert really. Think I'd bench Pienaar, but it's not easy.

      i also dont understand the mass tevez culling (he fell 0.3 last gw!) but i'd rank him 2nd behind aguero in their pecking order;
      aguero
      tevez
      dzeko
      balotelli
so tevez and aguero should start most games

From actually watching the ManC games he looks the most threatening, and what I like is that he isnt as generous as Augero in front of goal, he will pull the trigger.

My thoughts are leaning towards getting rid of RVP and pairing Ivanovic with Baines in my defence.

        THoughts? off-topic sorry.

They also look so much more creative and confident and full of ideas with Tevez on the pitch. Because Aguero is more out and out point man - he gives less of that impetus to the team. But agree with the pecking order here and pretty confident in them both starting most games for the foreseeable.

Not everyone getting rid. Just that those that are want to encourage others to do the same.

He is still their greatest threat. Trouble is Mancini uses him to wear out the opposition so Aguero can come on against knackered defenders that have had to chase Tevez all over the pitch for an hour.

Carrying on from my earlier post about first games back after an itnernational break. http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2012/10/08/van-persie-tiote-and-huth-to-escape-bans/comment-page-4/#comment-4080634

The evidence from earlier this season shows that teams witha high contingency of players not on international duty can prosper and it is also the gameweek where differentials (who are usually consigned to the subs bench|) shine.

With this in mind I had a look at some scorers from gameweek 4 last year (2011-12 season)

    Gameweek 4 scorers included:
    Arshavin,
    Leon Osman(king of the differentials)
Agbonlahor (he only scores when those around him have buggered off on international duty
    Ji Dong-Won - Sunderland

Its also worth noting from that gameweek that when good players are not rested then a little old thing like an interntional fixture is unlikely to tire them. In that week Aguero scored a hattrick and Hernandez a brace.

In conclusion: Teams like Fulham with classy retired internationals should do well again, play your differentials irrespective of the fixture, do not assume that Ageuro etc will be tired because they have a plane journey.

he was just back from injury so the manager seemed to prefer higuain at the time. now however it seems that aguero is top dog alongside messi. as long as tevez doesn't piss off back to argentina for a 2 week bender this time like last international break i think he could be one of those you mention, 2 weeks of training at city and sucking up to a boss who showed he's willing to bench him now

It's an interesting thing to monitor for sure...although was Arshavin not on duty with Russia? Also...Ji Dong Won...I think he came on late on in the game and scored a consolation against Chelsea...He was rested all year on the bench! Interesting that he also scored the winner against Man city on New Years day...everyone was off celebrating Xmas/New years but he's Korean so he was fresh and raring to go!

That's the point...how often did Ji Dong Won score? And is it more than a coincidence that he was given a run out the week after the internationals.

Arshavin's case is more about actually being given game time due to others not being fit, rather than his own tiredness.

It is the week when team sheets throw up surprises.

Ba or Berb for GW8? And which one longer term?

I'm pretty sure I would rather have Berb at home to Villa, but is Ba a better prospect in the end? Would really appreciate any thoughts on this. And don't tell me both, because that is not really on for GW8 (I have RVP, Suarez, and Ba).

If that is what you are looking at, then do it now to be safe......although it is possible that Berba could drop as well over the next week or two so you may still be able to afford it.

Both great value for money picks, short term and long term - but Berbatov edges it for me, because he doesn't have Cisse standing between him and the goal.

      1. I don't know but my recollection was he was possible out for as much as four weeks so maybe "no"
      2. This is an odd time to drop Hart if you have had him all along (ie, after his first cleanie), but I would opt for the cheaper rotation anyway because of the unreliability of the City D.

My current team for GW 8:

    Foster
    Baines - Ivanovic - Demel - Hughes
    Bale - Mata - Dyer - Johnson
    RVP - Tevez

    Henderson - Graham - Noble - Cuellar

    1FT, 0.2m in the bank.

Time to WC or can I still miraculously hold off? Graham has got to go somehow of course, but can't upgrade him without downgrading someone else to free up funds.

Really annoying. Was just about to get him in and was it just me or were the Saints completely lifeless going forward yesterday? checked the heat maps again and gameweek 7 was the only game where Lambert has played deeper than Rodriguez and that includes Everton, where Rodriguez got 80 mins.

Seeing as this formation resulted in a narrow draw, caused by defenders not attackers I'd say it's an experiment that didn't work. I fully expect to see Lambert up top again in gameweek 8, but will closely monitor the situation.

Just checked the heat maps he apart he played deep against Man City...arguably because the whole team had to defend more, but other than that he has played forward with or without Ramirez. Gameweek 7 and his half in Gameweek 1 were his only two games were his average position was the centre circle.

Please help me out (1 FT and 0.0 in cash). Planning on doing Hazard --> Silva to get cash to upgrade Kebe or Sahin, but can I do anything before I know whether or not I will have three injured defenders come next GW?

    Foster - Begovic

    Gibbs - Cuellar - Baines - Clyne - Demel

Santi Cazorla - Hazard - Sahin - Kebe - Sterling

Van Persie - Tevez - Berbatov

That's one too many in the Sunderland basket if you ask me 😉

simple player but ticks the PPI index like Milner manages to do. Sunderland fixtures aren't bad and MON has to loosen the defensive mentality soon enough. Would prefer AJ but the budget doesn't stretch in this case.

    Foster Bego
    Baines Gibbs Rafael Demel Gorkss
    Cazorla HBA Pienaar Fellaini Sterling
    RVP Fletcher Ba

Was thinking of doing these transfers over the coming weeks:

    HBA > Nolan/Jarvis (SOT wig)
    Fletcher > Berbatov
    Fellaini > Silva
    Demel > McCartney (groan)

    (after good fixtures) Jarvis/Nolan > Morrison/Ramirez/Lallana/Walters

    Any thoughts?

First 3 transfers look spot on to me (I'd go with Nolan over Jarvis - I think as Carroll match fitness improves, we'll see Nolan's goalscoring increase further)

What's your thinking on Demel > McCartney? I'd bench Demel for a cople of weeks, by which time he'll be back. Otherwise it's a side-ways move, for a less nailed-on starter.

If you change the total assists and goals numbers around here you get roughly Van Persie's league haul last season.
