Next up in this week’s series of articles focusing on goal threat are the forwards. Having analysed the midfielders yesterday, we turn our attentions to the men up front. First, we take a look at the potential hinted at by our very own ICT Index before digging deeper into the Opta statistics, highlighting a variety of crucial attacking indicators from the top 20 forwards in terms of goal attempts over the first seven Gameweeks of the new season…

5 days to go. 500 different WC ideas.

the one i most like so far:

    Foster, Bego
    Baines, Rafa, Cuellar, Wilson, McCartney
    Cazorla, Bale, Pienaar, Nolan, Sterling
    RvP, Ba, Berba

would love some constructive criticism but disruptive sarcasm is also welcome.....

Similar to mine, so yeah, I suppose so.

          Foster – Bego
          Baines – Rafa – Sagna(or a fillin till he’s back) – 8.8m
          Santi – Bale – Pienaar – Llama – Sterling
          RVP – Ba – Berba

    Baines-Gibbs-Kolorov-(Davies,Nelsen)
    HBA-Cazorla-Pienaar-Bale-(Frei)
    Tevez-RVP-Berbatov.

    Thoughts

And Yes i know kolorov is a risk, but i cant see him not playing after his performance against sunderland, particularly against relatively easy teams. Also His attacking potential far outweighs a potential 2 pointer from one of my subs.

Im 0.1 away form my perfect transfers I need either -

Berb to drop before the next GW or
Michu to rise after the next GW

So Michu scoring 10+ points would do nicely.

I will yes as I need some funds from him for another trade. I'll likely have him back though. Great choice and nothing wrong with holding him and a bit of rotation if you have a good squad (ie if you don't have rvp 😛 )

    Saylor
    Demel
    Clyne
    Fellaini

The first two should be back right??
If so does Defoe to Berba for free sound ok?

A lot of you are Anti-Yaya. Agreed he was playing in a slightly more defensive position last year, but in the last 2-3 games he has been playing CAM. Also what adds to this is Mancini bought Garcia and Rodwell, two more DM's which will probably mean Yaya playing further up the field. If you have a look at the Fulham game, Yaya played behind the striker.
I might look at getting rid, i might keep, but he is definitely not a DM. Scotty Parker is a DM. Sandro is a DM. Stoke is a DM. Yaya is not a DM.

I don't think anyone sees him as a DM. He's probably the most complete midfielder in the game and one of the last of a dying breed. In fpl though if you want him you better like 2/3 point returns aplenty.

There's good arguments for having him as he is a guaranteed starter and can deliver attacking returns when he's called upon to play a more attacking role in the game. But those consistent 2/3's will continue because City have too many attacking players for him to be getting goals more than he is.

Consistent over a season but not someone I'd have enough patience with. I bought him last year after the Swansea game because he had more shots than any other player that week...I think it was 10 shots or something which is amazing. But he didn't even score in that game...and the next match he did nothing. In fact he didn't score until November last year after that.

He can be instructed to play more attacking in games but I'd prefer to gamble on other players who are ALWAYS attacking and not defending/running about/tackling like he does.

Looking back a couple of seasons he was nudging double figures for league goals ... just back from an injury, already notched, £4.8m, do we reckon he's guaranteed a start?

You are creating a comparison to justify it.

Yes of course players who are ending their career or past their prime will do worse. But with Forlan he became one of the best strikers in Europe after leaving OT. Berba was also frozen out and still has the required skills. I'd argue he's an even bigger asset at Fulham, where he is guarenteed starts and the main man. His stats are amazing so far at Fulham.

A better comparison is players that are not past their prime. And also age tends to make a player slower, but for players that do not rely on pace they can get better with age...eg Pirlo.

Berba's the kinda girl you'd want long term, maybe marry, maybe just buy a house together.

Either way don't covet, act, woo him and he will, through a rakish look and a the flick of a Gauloises, woo you back.

No, he's going to do what he does every season: make it clear that on paper he's FPL dynamite then go missing the moment he does get a brief run of games, then go back to getting one game in three.

    Silva / Bale (c) / Cazorla / Michu
    Suarez / Jelavic / Lambert

😉 it should look better next week when I use my two FT's to do Suarez & Michu to Berbatov & Mata 😀

No United coverage (expected to hear that right?) would worry me with our recent form.

Other than that I'm doing Lambert to Berbatov. Awesome team otherwise, not sure Vermaelen is currently worth his price tag but this particular game is one you'd expect to his name on the scoresheet.

Yeah im not too worried over Man Utd cover as it would ruin the rest of my team. Hopefully Verm will start repaying my faith soon.

I prefer to look at form rather than fixtures. Suarez is a little too inconsistent for me for a captain pick.

All signs are putting to a massive next 2 games for Giroud. I don't want to miss out but if I get him it will mean benching pienaar (qpr) then fletcher (sto) and taking a 4 point hit. I'll let consensus sway me as it really could go either way. What say ye?

I'd love to feel like I had a good excuse to operate on my team to the extent required to bring in Giroud, but it just feels like too much structural upheaval when I'm fairly happy with my balance.

I'm in the same boat mate. Could be a big opportunity to climb the rankings though. Gotta be ruthless with our squads sometimes, getting in before the big haul and getting out before the run of shyte returns is key.
