Next up in this week’s series of articles focusing on goal threat are the forwards. Having analysed the midfielders yesterday, we turn our attentions to the men up front. First, we take a look at the potential hinted at by our very own ICT Index before digging deeper into the Opta statistics, highlighting a variety of crucial attacking indicators from the top 20 forwards in terms of goal attempts over the first seven Gameweeks of the new season…

I do agree with Forca, I didn't want to write it myself because it sounds pretty sycophantic.. but on the whole most of the regulars are always worth listening to.

No-ones is right or wrong all the time, but by merit of investing so much time in analyzing the game, the regulars tend to have more considered opinions imo.

right now i've got fletcher first slot on the bench, if i get berb then i'll bench either lambert or hba. what do you think?

It is a risk I am not willing to take as I need someone to play when Michu has tough games vs City and Chelsea as I want to keep Michu in long run. Another nailed on Reading mid, Kebe or McAnuff fits bill perfectly.

Plus hasnt Hunt come into team and score 2 in 2?

Hunt isn't a mf in FPL, so you can't really think of rotating him with Michu until you've upgraded that 5th spot. I'm doing the same now I guess, with Kebe in next week.

No I wont be doing that. But didnt Guthrie use to play behind Pog i mean and now Hunt is playing up with him I think.

I think I am doing Fletcher to Berba next GW. Bale in and Guthrie out for -4 week after. Then asses if I want to keep Berba after then.

Yeah, I think Guthrie has lost his 'in the hole' position, he wasn't much of a threat. I think he's just gonna fall deeper. So you're gonna bench Michu for all of his tough games? Too much value on the bench, no?

Probably. I dont believe in too much value on the bench baloney. I benched Kompany a few times. I look at fixtures first.

Suddenly feel like gambling on Berba for AVL and rea despite talking myself out of it earlier. I dont really have an issue with getting a Reading mid for a -4 as they always look like scoring. Plus it sorts out my bench fodder solution.

Yeah, based on some stats and correlations, Reading should be able to score around 25 goals at home this season at this rate. But the point is, which mid are you planning on? Surely McAnuff or Kebe?

That's quite a tight spot to be in. 2nd option sounds good. I would get rid of Cole though to save some money. He looks pretty useless for the next 6 gw's, plus Hazard isn't exactly a problem. I would definitely want to get Cazorla in long-term though.

Just how bad is this defence?

    Baines Cuellar Clark Gorkss Clyne

Thinking of going with this from gameweek 9 onwards. Is this taking the cost cutting a bit too far? Would be getting rid of Rangel and Jenkinson. This would really be only to fund a Suarez --> Aguero move...

Can you not find 1mil to bump Clark and Clyne to Wilson and Hughes? Cuellar may get fortnightly points, otherwise you're relying exclusively on Baines for your defensive points. Otherwise I predict a lot of 1s.

Don't really want to double up on any defence so not really interested in Wilson. Hughes is an option but fixtures aren't that great for when i need him. Also virtually no attacking threat..

Fair dues. I personally don't think it's too big a risk to double up on Stoke's defence for home games, I'll be rotating Wilson with Cuellar or Hughes each week. For defenders this cheap you are unlikely to find any significant attacking threat. I guess Gorkss has a little, Clyne a little too, but I'd rather clean sheets.

Personally I stick with Suarez, who is nailed on week in week out and have a better defence.

Just cause I think Pienaar will do better than either Nolan or Morrison.

So HBA, Pienaar and Ba will outscore HBA, Nolan/Morrison and Jelly.

Possibly not, and there is nothing to say HBA, Pienaar, Jelly isn't the way to go. It's just a lot of eggs in an Everton basket.

Nolan will probably score double digits this season. Especially now with Carroll back. I'd say he will outscore Pienaar. He should have scored a couple against Arsenal, which on another day he would have..

which combo do you prefer starting next week? and please suggest which mf you think is best for that price range. btw my plan is to rotate based on fixtures so will still be playing my 5th mid a good amount. and mmy 5th defender i'd probably play a decent amount if they have good fixtures and a decent cs potential

Personally I would want to play Baines and Kolorov every week (hoping Kolorov starts) and Gibbs and Rafa almost every week, meaning the 5th Defender would hardly ever get played. If you've not got Jask already, then demel, but he would leave you just 0.1 mil shy of getting Mata.

      So:

      e) 9.1 mf (Mata) + gorks

            Its a funny price bracket.

I think mata is the best mf you can get (that you don't have already) for under 9.1m. I think that you may as well get gorks and pocket the extra 0.1 over any of the 3 cheapies you listed.

Nasri would be a punt and rotation prone IMO, though city have best short term fixtures. Yaya will get consistent, average returns.

Valencia, Nani, Kags are all prone to rotation and none have really shown form yet. If say Kags starts coming good then I wouldn't hesitate to get him in for GW11 onwards, but in meantime despite heavy opposition, Chelsea will still score and I think Mata is showing real class again.

Any advice on transfers to the below this week?

    Jaask
    Baines, Hughes, Cuellar
    Bale, Barfa, Pienaar, Michu
    RVP(c), Suarez(v), Tevez

    Fed, McCartney, Guthrie, Clyne
    Bank 0.5m, 1 freebie

Nice team for this week .I would just do Fed --> Begovic as a long-term transfer. Him and Jussi rotate like a dream. I think next week you should seriously consider getting rid RVP and boosting your midfield.

Cheers - you reckon it's worth saving the transfer and doing Fed -> Begovic next week instead (I'd be starting Jaask this week anyway, and it eliminates the worry of Begovic getting injured this week)?

Yeah i'd at least wait 'til he's about to rise, you never know. Not sure when that will be, at 4.6 he is a serious bargain though!

Ha. Which of these do you think is best?

        a) GW8 save, GW9 Michu & Suarez -> Santi & Berba
        b) GW8 save, GW9 Guthrie & RVP -> Santi & Ba/Berba

          a) cause in GW 10,11,12 Man U have avl,nor,QPR,WHM,rdg

It would kill me to take RVP out the week before that run.

That MUN run starts in GW11, but I see your point. If I did b) and then saved the transfer in GW10, I could get RVP back in GW11 with a double transfer if he looks a must have for then?

Ah, and to think I corrected myself. I need to get to bed.

I'm hoping there will be no 'if'. But you may find that by the time GW 11 rolls around you have more pressing matters than a hit to get RVP back.

I'm a little enamoured of the man and am unwilling to shift him out for anyone.

That said.... I didn't read your conundrum properly I reckon Michu + Suarez will score more than RVP + Guthrie, so boot him. Caz and Berb/Ba are very tasty propositions.

Man that's so hard. I'm still not sure what to do with Michu myself and i really want Berba in too. Every player on there is class except Guthrie. I'd go B with Berba.

Michu is good for regular goals this season think it's worth keeping him, Suarez, fuk knows. I think i might sell him gw9 myself but he can always explode..

:D. i can't wait tbh! but still trying to figure out which defender to lose for him which pretty much has to do with picking a mf option 9.1 or less

Not that many options around in that bracket.

Did you ever check that spreadsheet I sent you? If i had to make this decision (based on rotation), I would use that spreadsheet to find exactly which games I would need the player to play, and then decide based on that. Somebody like lennon might be good if he fits into the rotation plan. Or possibly walters, but i'd prefer to see where he lines up in the next home game before deciding. Would leave you loads of cash though.

mata valencia the main ones. also yaya and kags could be possibilities...

oh right! i forgot about that. will have a look now. thanks. hmmm i guess. already have bale though. yeah walters another good possibility. dang wish silva was a tad bit cheaper though!

well i can spend up to 9.1 if i get gorkss in as my 5th defender. with saylor i can spend 8.0 so wouldn't have quite as much in the bank if i got walters.

A 9 mil Silva would solve a lot of our problems. Please see above for my class over fixtures recommendation. Though honestly, not all that convinced on it myself. I'm steering clear of chelsea and Man city for the moment.

    Jaaskelainen (Begovic)
    Baines Rangel Jenkinson (Clark Clyne)
    Bale Nolan Michu Cazorla (Hazard)
    Suarez Fletcher Jelavic

    1 FT, 0.3 in bank.

Thinking to save transfer this week and next week take a 4pt hit.

    Rangel/Jenkinson/Suarez --> Cuellar/Gorkss/Aguero

    Is this insanity?
