Next up in this week’s series of articles focusing on goal threat are the forwards. Having analysed the midfielders yesterday, we turn our attentions to the men up front. First, we take a look at the potential hinted at by our very own ICT Index before digging deeper into the Opta statistics, highlighting a variety of crucial attacking indicators from the top 20 forwards in terms of goal attempts over the first seven Gameweeks of the new season…

      I guess it will be him or Jarvis (maybe even Maiga) getting more game time, but the thing is, their fixtures during that period leave a lot to be desired, so I personally wouldn't go there...

    Hi guys, i drop in on the site a lot since the Euros where i began joining in on fantasy football. Im now doing my first FPL season. I am top of work based mini league.. just. I am currently 4th in a bigger league where the stakes are higher. Wild card is played (too early, in hindsight) but this is what im working with..

    Jussi // Bego
    Hughes // Rangel // Jenkinson // Clyne // Demel
    Gervhino // Bale // Pienaar // Hazard // Guthrie
    Tevez // RVP // Ba

    My thoughts are this week - Tevez > Suarez or Jelavic and Hazard > Cazorla for -4pt

    Following gameweek i could get rid of RVP and upgrade defense a bit and lose Gervhino for B Arfa maybe.

    Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

      Bob ... I would hold tight and keep your transfer for this week. Tevez is a sure starter against West Brom and is likely to pick up some points, Whilst Hazard > Cazorla is a sideways move with little to be gained, aside from Cazorla's fixtures are better for a month. Wait this week and then have 2 FTs for next GW.

        Thanks for your response guys. Maybe i am just chasing points in the short term, looking at Ars, Eve and Liv Fixtures. Im thinking Arsenal will score more goals at Norwich than Chelsea at Spurs.. So Cazorla should have a higher chance of getting more points than Hazard. I like the idea of 2 FT's next GW tho.

          For a 4-point hit you need Cazorla to score a goal and Hazard do nothing. Chelsea have been quite dominant over all opponents this year, and Spurs have been leaky at the back. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Chelsea put 2 or 3 up against them! But ... I agree with the fact that Arsenal have delicious upcoming fixtures and Cazorla will be in the thick of it!

            Suppose i could do Bale > Cazorla. Keeping Hazard and Tevez this week. Would be reluctant as Bale could step up after confidence from International duties and playing in a big game agaisnt Chelsea.

              Bale always performs against chelsea, andSpurs fixtures are pretty good coming up really. Selling Bale now would be madness. Forget that one!!

              Selling Bale or selling Hazard. Bye Hazard.

      Id like to get Raf in as much as it pains me, but it would only be after shipping out RVP AND would be in faith that ol Baconface has decided that Rafael is his number one rb. Im not sure about either of those things so needless to say, unless i get drunk, I wont be getting Rafael. If I had him...id keep until he's dropped then he would be out the door. Cant see smalling starting over him at this point though to be fair. Rafael gives them width when they play with the diamond.

      I'm not. I think Smalling will be required on the bench as backup for Jones/Rio. This is more pronounced as Rio is a ticking time bomb for an injury. He's also been playing well, so I can't see him being dropped.

      Smalling will provide cover at CB. Fergie will not tinker with rafael this season. Only jones is a contender or an injury to rafael to play smalling at RB. And jones is some time away. Rafael is a good option.

    Hey all, first post. Woo

    Question:
    Al-Habsi
    Ashley Williams, Jenks, Hangelaand
    Hazard Michu, Yaya Kagawa
    Kun Torres Fletcher
    Subs: Begovic, Reid, Clyne, Duff

    Do I take a -4 hit and transfer Kagawa and Duff out for Routledge and Cazorla?
    I feel Cazorla might be big this week against Norwich.
    Any other recommendations more than welcome. I don't have my WC

      You may laugh but I would start Duff over Torres. I have Spurs beating Chelsea and although people say there will be lots of goals, I see a 2-0 Spurs. Watch this space.

      Don't take a hit, either keep your starting eleven as it is (fixtures look favourable for you), and/or do Duff in for Torres (home v Villa and with Berba probably back it's non stop feed the Berbs against a shite Villa team on the road!!!).

      I hate Torres by the way. Useless mug has done NOTHING and i mean NOTHING for me the past two seasons during his in and out time in my team....usually at captain!!!

      Save your free and have 2 fts next time, and upgrade Yaya to Santi or Silva, and get Torres out for Berba or Ba. Sorted.

            unless he/she has money in the bank those two would be impossible, so he would need to downgrade Torres or someone else, and with THAT defence I don't see much else to do.

            Pretty shocking defence to be fair.

            Thanks guys,
            lots of food for thought. I'll be honest my defence is shocking because I only had one 'big hitter' in Lescott and given City's proclivity for shipping goals at the start of the season I said screw it and save money for midfield and up front.
            You guys (Stupendous in particular) reckon it's worth foregoing Cazorla's likely rampage against Norwich? And secondly, you'd hold on to Duff mid- long-term vs someone like Routledge who'd let me get rid of Yaya or Kagawa for someone like Bale or Santi?
            Cheers for the responses! I've been waiting too long to do this it seems!

      It might be the most irritating decision I will have to make in my entire life. Keep or sell RVP. It's been non stop sell/keep RVP on here all week. Problem is, if we all sell him, he'll score a brace or hat trick and 3baps v Stoke, and if we keep him and captain him, he'll either play 55/60mins and not do anything, or play 90mins and get an assist.

      Just not a nice situation to be in. He's just worth far too much money it's that simple. Entire teams built around him and now we don't know what to do with him. Just look at two of the people involved in the transfers you have just mentioned................RVP 13.4m and Sterling 4.8m......incredible.

        If ever there was a time for RVP to score a hat trick it would be this weekend...it's so essential.
        He scored 2 against Stoke in a 20 minute cameo last year so the signs are good.

        Selling RVP for an injured Berba when they both have decent home games wouldn't be my cup of tea. Good luck though!

          Baines – Rafa – Sagna(or a fillin till he's back) – 8.8m

      If he's fit I would definitely go with Demel over Cuellar, I would expect Newcastle to put a couple past Sundaerland. Problem is that Demel has been out with an injury and was an unused sub on the bench for Ivory Coast ... which doesn't clarify anything for his owners.

    Worth doing Tevez->Berba for a hit?

    Tevez up against WBA who have been really solid at home conceding only 2 in 4 games. Already have Toure for Man City cover for their decent run of upcoming fixtures.

    Berba up against Villa who have been terrible away. Fulham's fixtures after that also look good.

      Wouldn't do the hit imo. Tevez has as much as Berb for scoring well this week.

          Tevez is almost guaranteed to start as he's had 2 weeks off, so no need to ship him this week, especially for a hit.

      Gervinho. But not sure because giroud could play ahead him. But if Gervinho play he has really easy fixtures this week. RVP is also other choice. While Crouch could be because Man Utd is a bit weak in air ball. Don't forget Michu and Yaya too. But the strongest choice is RVP or Gervinho

      You've had a fairly decent start however I would have some concerns with this team

      very weak in MF, I have Michu and am keeping but if I had Yaya I would look to upgrade. same could be said of Gervinho, although you may have just had a bit of luck with Walcott possibly being injured

      Crouch is nice to have and hope he works for you, however I see AVB giving ADE a chance soon so Defoe may be a concern in the not too distant future

          I've decided this week and next week I am taking a hit.

          this week I have already done my FT early, Federici to Bego and I plan on doing Hazard to Silva for a 4 pointer (have a great feeling and will not be budged off)

          next week I am doing Suarez to Berba and Guthrie to Walters (again have a great feeling)

          I have decided not to be scared of doing a couple of hits here and there if you feel your team will look the better for it.. I actually regret not doing a couple more so far as would have more points if I went with my gut instead of being patient

    Kinda torn between these 2 moves - watcha reckon lads? If doing a) then I'd look to bring RVP back in GW11 for their kind run.

    a) GW8 save, GW9 Guthrie & RVP -> Santi & Berba/Ba
    b) GW8 save, GW9 Michu & Suarez -> Santi & Berba

    Jaask, Fed
    Baines, Cuellar, Hughes, McCarthey, Clyne
    Bale, Barfa, Michu, Pienaar, Guthrie
    RVP, Suarez, Tevez

      Definitely B ... I wouldn't be touching RVP despite any red blotches on their fixture list. He can, and will, score against anyone at any time and you'd be losing money to get him back in later! Can you get Santi and Ba??

        Nah, only have 7.4m for the striker slot if I do Michu -> Santi, which only really leaves Berba. The problem with getting Berba in next week, is that his fixtures aren't really that great, whereas Ba's are. If doing a) then I'd lose RVP for che and ARS, which are unlikely to be huge hauls (although anything is possible).

            Yeah, he's one of the few players who can score against anyone, although I'd like to think that Vermaelen and co will know his play inside out and can hopefully keep him fairly queit. What do you think about:

            GW8: save
            GW9: Michu & RVP -> Santi & Ba
            GW10: save
            GW11: Bale & Suarez -> Kagawa (or an 8.4m mide or below) & RVP

              Honestly I wouldn't ... leave RVP in and save the 0.2 - 0.3 you'll get from selling and re-buying. There are too many variables for planning that far ahead, and I'd be a bit concerned about Kagawa, United's midfield is a mine-field at the moment. Berba would be the best bet of the cheaper forwards.

      Much of a muchness. I'd expect them all to get more than 2 but less than 8. Would probably lean towards Suarez because of the opponents.

    Morning all.

    How's team looking for this GW?

    Foster (Begovic)

    Rafael, Baines, Cuellar (Davies, Clark)

    Mata, Silva, Gervinho, Bale (Sterling)

    Jelavic (C) Suvar-ez, Lambert.

    Should i do Lambert> Berba.. for free? or save a free?

      I'm currently considering Lambert > Berba. I really want him and it's either that or transfer him in for RVP/Tevez and I see Lambert being the least dangerous player not to own.

      The only one near the price I can I can recommend would be Ben Arfa, but it depends on the rest of your team...

      If not him then you should probably consider someone in the 6m bracket and save the money to upgrade somewhere else next week...

      Short term option: Nolan...
      Long term option: Walters, Morrison, Sterling...

    jussi ruddy
    ivanovic ridgewell harte clark clyne
    hazard cazorla michu pienaar ramirez
    rvp jelavic graham

    at this int break i already have the plan transfer out graham -> berba
    but i think i lack of liverpool and west ham covers for gw8
    what should i do?

    1. graham -> berba (free)
    2. graham -> berba, hazard -> nolan (-4pts)
    3. graham -> berba, hazard -> nolan, jelavic -> suarez (-8pts)

      I'd much rather have Hazard over Nolan and if you need the cash for another move then you can reconsider next week for a FT.

    Morning DZers/early risers,

    Nice to know that there haven't been any major injuries to players in the international break so far!

    Regarding the RVP/Tevez > Berba move that's gathered a lot of momentum, I'm taking the easy way out! 2FTs: Hangeland > Hughes/Wilson & Lambert > Berba. Still can't decide if I want to hold onto Fulham defensive cover or double up on Stoke (already have Bego).

        Yeah, their clean sheet prospects look solid over the coming weeks. Only decision is whether it's better to spread my bets with one FUL and one STO defender or turn my back on Fulham and risk it for the biscuit.

      Good plan - not the week to get rid of RVP/Tevez. Potential for both (or neither!) to remind us that we need them in our teams. I think short term Fulham look better, but if you can bench Wilson this week he may be the better option for GW9 onwards.

        I am mainly thinking medium-term but that Stoke fixture makes Wilson unplayable next week, leaving me with Saylor (sun) to play. Would be relying on goal threat for points in that game.

          I'd go Wilson, then. Villa may score at Fulham. Tyne/Wear normally unpredictable - could be tight, or could be a goal feast - but for the sake of a possible few points then you'd be set up for the next few weeks. Worth a gamble, I'd say.

        I'm 0.2m short and I don't see that changing before the deadline! The Hangeland > Wilson/Hughes move is purely to free funds.

        You think it's wise? Not sure myself but I just know that if I don't get Berba now, I'll regret it.

        about 95% sure. recon he's got two nice fixtures to score well and after then he still might score well. and as someone said on here yesterday i think it was, berbs is the type of player that will make you regret not having him, fletcher: not so much

        why do you think fletcher is bound to score on you though? and it'll probably just be 1 goal yes?

        actually, just outta curiousity, what is your predicted score for the game?

          It's probably just the toon fan in me. I like to have opposition strikers in my team as a comfort blanket in case they score against us! Thinking about it, I was only thinking of keeping fletcher for a week because otherwise it would cost a hit. If its a free transfer (that you would make next week anyway) you might as well bring berb in.

          No idea how the game will go. One thing for sure is that it will be feisty. Both teams need a win to kick start their season. Let's hope it's an away win!
