John Terry has confirmed he will not be appealing against the four-match ban imposed by the FA for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand last October. The Chelsea skipper had until 6pm this evening to make his decision but released the following statement earlier this morning:

“I want to take this opportunity to apologise to everyone for the language I used in the game. Although I’m disappointed with the FA judgment, I accept that the language I used, regardless of the context, is not acceptable on the football field or indeed in any walk of life. As I stated in the criminal case, with the benefit of hindsight my language was clearly not an appropriate reaction to the situation for someone in my position. My response was below the level expected by Chelsea Football Club, and by me, and it will not happen again.”

Terry’s suspension will now take place with immediate effect. He is set to miss three league games – this weekend’s trip to Spurs, a home clash with United and the visit to Swansea – in addition to a Capital One Cup tie against United on October 31.

Domestically, he will next be available on November 11 for Liverpool’s visit to the Bridge, though Terry can participate in the Champions League away and home clashes against Shakhtar Donetsk on October 23 and November 7 respectively.

The news is likely to boost Gary Cahill’s first-team chances over the short-term, at least. The former Bolton man has started just one of the last four league matches, whereas David Luiz has featured in the first XI in the last five for Roberto Di Matteo’s side – a run of matches which has seen the Blues concede just twice.

Di Matteo also has the option of moving Branislav Ivanovic to the centre and handing new boy Cesar Azpilicueta a start at right-back; the summer signing climbed off the bench against Norwich in Gameweek 7 for his league debut. Whether Di Matteo will give Azpilicueta his first start against Spurs or United is perhaps debatable, though; the smart money seems to be on Cahill slotting in alongside Luiz as Chelsea look to maintain their position at the top of the position in their skipper’s absence.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Really want Santi in for this GW (and next), only way i can do it without taking a hit is:

    A) Hazard > Santi
    B) Bale > Santi
    C) Stick and put Santi in next week.
    D) Other...!

Couple of questions re Sagna……Any Gooners about???

Season is going well considering I missed out on Ivanovic (decided Cole was more nailed on despite Ivanovic's attacking threat) and sold Bale on my WC (against my better judgement) for Hazard just as the former hit form and the latter started returning blanks.

Other than that I can't complain! Happy with my team and I have the luxury of 2FTs to tinker a little bit before the deadline.

How about you? You must be happy with that rank at such an early stage in the season!

Sort of happy.....sold Bale > Haz for GW4 like you. Cost me 30 odd points.

I also have 2FT this week.

            Thinking of:

            Ivan>ARS Def (Gibbs/Sagna)
            Graham>Berbatov

            What are you thinking of?

Sounds good to me. Can't argue with the players you're targeting.

I'm planning on getting Berbatov in, so Lambert has to make way and I'm funding it by downgrading Hangeland to Hughes or Wilson (already have Bego). Leaning towards Wilson at the moment as I can play him every week from GW9 onwards and don't have to rotate Hughes with Gorkss.

              Sound good to you?

Imo...would downgrade Hang>Hughes since you have Bego.

I not think that Hughes/Gorkss rotation is that bad actually. RDG should tighten up like they did last season and fixtures are strong.

Hughes looks like he is getting forward on set pieces. He should have scored last week.

      1. No - but chance of the bench apparently. (I don't think he'll go just to be on the bench. Shalke/QPR likely return to squad)
      2. Yes - he'll be first choice again. But Jenkinson's good showing means there's more likelihood of some rotation. Sagna for the big games though for sure.

Word is that Gibbs is very unlikely to make Norwich - and with Santos itching for a game, I doubt he'll be risked.

    1 FT.

    Foster - Bego

    Gibbs - Demel - Caulker - (McAuley - Nelsen)

    Dempsey - Pienaar - Michu - Sterling - (Hazard)

    RVP - Tevez - Jelavic

Was thinking about Hazard > Cazorla, would leave me with 0.8 in the bank.

Thoughts on what I should do?

I'd definitely target a Newcastle defender to rotate with Cuellar. See how you get on elsewhere before deciding on Hughes > Wilson

If I'm doing the Newcastle defender first it'd be this week for Cole as I have 2FT.

Who is most nailed on out of Simpson and Saylor, or both of them fit and nailed on now? I'd prefer Simpson at 4.8 but if there's doubts about his place in the first 11 I'd get Saylor in (If fit).

Team at the moment for GW8 (1.6m BANK, 1 free transfer):

    Foster(MCI)
    Rafael(STK) Baines(qpr) Demel(SOU)
    Bale(CHE) Sterling(RDG) Michu(WIG) Fellaini(qpr)
    Suarez(RDG) Tevez(wba) Van Persie(STK)

subs - Begovic, Jenkinson, Cuellar, Maloney

    Best course of action?
    a) Fellaini > Nolan
    b) Tevez > Berbatov
    c) Fellaini & Tevez > Cazorla & Berbatov

I've started typing a response a few times and kept deleting it... it's tricky.

I'm sure you want Cazorla, but not sure that getting rid of Tevez for a hit is wise. Think I'd be tempted to save the transfer this week then get Cazorla next week, unless you fancy Tevez --> Giroud this week?

I haven't seen the latest on Fellaini so can't really comment properly there.

    What to do? 1 FT.

    Foster – Bego

    Gibbs – Demel – Caulker – (McAuley – Nelsen)

    Dempsey – Pienaar – Michu – Sterling – (Hazard)

    RVP – Tevez – Jelavic

Was thinking about Hazard > Cazorla, would leave me with 0.8 in the bank.

Probably been mentioned 100 times, but the injury update article is AWESOME. Keep up the good work! As much injury news as possible is gold. Current doubts in my team are Demel and Gibbs, I'm guessing Berba is pretty much guaranteed to start.

Assume the consensus would be it's not worth Ramirez to Ben Arfa is not worth a hit? (Will make move next week instead).

My transfer yesterday was Fellaini > Kebe due to price fall and undecided on the hit/ whether to bring in Ben Arfa. Narsi, Kagawa, Oscar.

    Team for week is

    Foster
    Rafael, Baines, Davies
    Cazorla, Bale, Kebe, Sterling
    RVP (c), Aguero, Berbatov

    Bego, Demel, Gorks, Ramirez

Nice of Terry to take the ban when he is injured.

Should I play Sterling or Lambert this weekend?
I've got Suarez in my team as well.

    qpr LIV ful SUN

I'm almost certainly rationalising here but does that look like a relatively hard run of fixtures from an attacking perspective? All 4 teams are very capable of keeping a clean sheet.

Wondering about ditching Jelavic for Giroud and captaining him.

I agree that the games are only ok after qpr, but look at the run after that. But Qiroud could be a great punt. Its a big risk.

I'm just not sure I want to dump Hazard to get Cazorla - even though that probably makes more sense than dropping Jelavic.

No way to tell actually. Maybe avoid Arsenal and hide behind the couch 😀

liverpool away are pretty awful defensively.

Qpr have only had one decent game defensively

fulham- yeah, thats a tough once

sunderland (h)- thats tough but you would expect everton to score at least 1 or 2.
