In a frantic Friday packed full of articles, we finally see out the day with our pre-weekend regular. As always, we roll out three overlooked alternatives ahead of tomorrow morning’s deadline for your perusal…

Antonio Valencia

Having racked up four goals and 14 assists over 2,124 minutes in the previous campaign, the United winger had proven to be a constant source of Fantasy points for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. The Red Devils’ summer acquisition of Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa and Robin Van Persie from Arsenal shifted the spotlight away from the former Wigan man, though, and with Wayne Rooney also in the mix, Valencia has been shifted to the periphery of our Fantasy thinking.

To an extent, it’s understandable. While the likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and Santi Cazorla dominate the heavyweight attention with eye-catching displays aplenty, Valencia’s highest haul has been just five points. In a campaign already hampered by ankle and foot injuries, the winger has returned to form and fitness and is again hinting at the consistency which served his Fantasy owners so well last time round – Valencia has now provided an assist in each of his last four starts and could well be set to torment Arsenal’s stand-in left-back Andre Santos in tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off.

Priced at 8.6 in FPL and 7.9 in the Sky Sports game, Valencia has an ownership of just 2.7% in the former game and with a strong run of fixtures to follow, looks an enticing differential route into a United side that have already racked up 24 goals, more than any side so far.

Theo Walcott

A hat-trick and a trio of assists in Arsenal’s extraordinary midweek Capital One Cup comeback win at Reading highlighted Walcott’s current form. Having failed to start a single league match since Gameweek 1, he’s been something of an outcast this term but with Gervinho sidelined due to an ankle injury, tomorrow’s encounter at Old Trafford looks likely to hand him a chance to return to the Gunners first XI.

Much has been made over his desire to nail down a central role but Walcott may have to settle for a berth on the right flank, with Aaron Ramsey the man likely to make way now that Jack Wilshere is back to partner Mikel Arteta in the centre. Given the comparative form of Olivier Giroud, though, Wenger may well be tempted to shift Walcott centrally if things aren’t going his side’s way tomorrow and with a home clash against Fulham to follow, he also offers the potential for points next week, too. Priced at 8.7 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, and with an ownership of just 1.2% in FPL, many will be hoping Walcott can return to the form that harvested 169 FPL points in the season gone by.

Wes Hoolahan

There’s no question the season started poorly for the Republic of Ireland international. Paul Lambert’s departure to Villa afforded Chris Hughton the chance to take the Carrow Road reins and with the new boss undecided over his best starting XI, Hoolahan cut a peripheral figure, with a mere 14 minutes game time over Norwich’s first four league fixtures.

Since Gameweek 5, though, the playmaker has started four of the last five and has played every minute from Gameweek 7 onwards. As confidence begins to grow, a 1-0 home win over Arsenal was followed by a draw at Lambert’s new club Villa, with Hoolahan a key figure in last weekend’s match –he provided the assist for Michael Turner’s equaliser and resultantly picking up two bonus points.

Tucked in behind Grant Holt in Hughton’s now-default 4-4-1-1, his creativity is clearly crucial to the Canaries chances as Hughton looks to build on the back of the midweek Capital One Cup win over Spurs. Up against a Stoke side that have managed a single clean sheet in their five away games, and with a trip to Reading to follow next weekend, Hoolahan – coming in at 5.5 in FPL and 6.8 in the Sky Sports game and with an ownership of 0.3% in both games, offers a real mid-price midfield punt ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

seems to be. also has had bonus points in 2 of his 3 home games.

iv also got this feeling he will score this weekend. last time i had this feeling was b4 lpool played reading and sterling scored.

    A) This Week: Wilson to Nelsen and Lambert to Defoe for a four point hit. I would probably try to get Ba in the next week or the week after that week for Defoe

    B) Save my transfer this week and next week do Hangeland to Nelsen and Lambert to Ba

Team at the moment for GW10 (Bank = £2.7m, 1 free transfer):

    Foster
    Rafael Baines Cuellar
    Bale Sterling Cazorla Michu
    Ba Berbatov Van Persie

subs - Begovic, Maloney, Jenksinson, Demel

With Cuellar a doubt i'm thinking that i should probably dump Jenks or Demel for a defender to ensure i have 11 starters. I'm also likely to need whoever i bring in to start in GW11 as well so thoughts on these potential candidates?

    a) Sagna (mun, FUL)
    b) Santon (liv, WHU)
    c) Nelsen (RDG, sto)
    d) Gorkss (qpr, NOR)
    e) Fonte ((wba, SWA)

Ah, Huth, my FPL man crush, he's coming in for me this week for Wilson. My plan is to play Huth, Rafa and Baines every week. Hence why Hangeland is going to Nelsen or Gorkks, just so I have decent playing cover if Rafa doesn't start

hmmmm he does fill my remit of having a good fixture in GW11 but i just can't help worrying about the double up. If i didn't have Begovic a Stoke defender would be the obvious choice. You have Bego too?

      I'd pick c or d tbh.

Nelsen has a better cs chance, but Gorkks is a bigger goal threat. For 4 million those 2 are great value.

Definitely not d) or e). I think Cuellar will probably start, so I'd look a little longer term than just this week. Jenkinson -> Sagna for me. He offers the biggest attacking threat of those 5 by far, and he plays for the best team. Oh, and he has very good mid-long term fixtures.

Cheers guys. Tbh there's no space for Chelsea unless I drop one of the players from another big team and with the 3 heavy hitters in mid I don't think it's worth dropping them for Mata and Hazard is just too expensive.

    Begovic - (Vorm)
    Baines - Walker - Hughes - (McCartney) - (Stam)
    Cazorla - Morrison - Walters - Noble/Pienaar - (Pienaar/Noble)
    RVP - Aguero - Berbatov

    1 FT, 0.0 in bank

Was going to leave team but, need to sort out the keeper situation.

Was thinking Vorm > Julio Cesar, rotates well with Begovic for 6 GWs home and away, and for 8 GWs rotates well, and frees up 0.4 in cash

but then realized I can also do Hughes > Nelsen which gives me the same QPR coverage for cheaper, but that doesn't sort out the keeper situation, frees up 0.5 in cash

So Vorm > Julio Cesar or
    Hughes > Nelsen?

Also play Noble or Pienaar, bearing in mind I will have another clash if I play Pienaar against Hughes if I keep him.

Just save the FT, Begovic looks like a good shout for the next string of games and you might probably not need Cesar at all. Play Pienaar, it doesn't matter if he's up against Hughes, he's likely to get something more than Noble is, and you benching him won't stop him from playing well. 😉

        Alright mate,

QPR clean sheet > Stoke clean sheet this GW, so would make sense there as well, plus Vorm dropping in price I don't want to leave him festering.

Am still tempted to leave my team though and do Walker > Rafael next GW, I just feel with the Vorm transfer I will then be leaving my keepers alone for 8 GWs, and the Cesar transfers give me another 0.4 mill, what do you think?

Tbh, I don't like QPR's defense, I'd just wait for them to improve at the back before getting someone in. And Stoke have been brilliant. I'd save it and assess it next week with an extra transfer in hand.

Help. I brought in Mata earlier this week to catch the rise. Dumb, but there it is. I have earned 0.1 free and clear (bought for 9.2) and he will likely fall back to that by next week (I think). Can someone tell my why I should not switch him to Valencia for a hit, given that I planned to get Valencia in next week anyway? Next week I can use the same FT I was going to use to get Valencia to get Mata back in, at the same price I originally bought him for. Even if he only drops to 9.3 I already earned 0.1 so it's a wash. So the whole thing turns on whether Valencia gets 6 or more, which I think is a good shout. What am I missing here? If I am wrong please talk me out of this!
