The Saints go limping on, suffering another damaging defeat at the hands of a solid showing from Steve Clarke’s Baggies. Here’s the Stock Check from tonight’s concluding Gameweek 10 encounter…

On The Up

Peter Odemwingie
Without a goal in his last five league appearances, the Nigerian struck a superb brace to offer a reminder of his former Fantasy glories. Odemwingie notched 15 goals and 9 assists in his debut Premier League season but struggled to find double figures for goals last term, often employed in a wider role and with limited starts. That has continued this term, with Steve Clarke handing him just four starts so far.

The West Brom Defence
Having gone four matches without a clean sheet, the Baggies were at their resilient best tonight with the midfield working tirelessly to protect a solid back four unit. West Brom have kept four clean sheets at home this term and the likes of Ben Foster in goal, along with Liam Ridgewell and Gareth McAuley go on offering value. They do have three away games in four, four in the next six. West Brom have conceded in every away trip this season.

Going Down

Rickie Lambert
Earlier in the season, the Saints striker looked to be the budget striker of choice – a brace in the 4-1 home win over Villa taking him to four goals in four starts. Since then, Lambert has gone five games without a goal or assist as the Saints struggle for a Premier League foothold.

Romelu Lukaku
Relegated to the bench to make way for the impressive Shane Long, the on-loan striker is struggling to gain the starts he needs to make a lasting impression. When introduced, Lukaku looks a handful with the potential to offer explosive returns. However, Long’s workrate was on show again tonight and he continues to have a grip on the starting role in Clarke’s preferred 4-5-1 formation.

James Morrison
The Scot missed out tonight having suffered “a slight niggle” in training according to Steve Clarke – we know little more about the injury, although we can presume that Morrison will remain an early doubt for the weekend trip to Wigan.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

looking at a cheapish mid to rotate with sterling

Maloney and Mcanuff seem the best options, which one is probably best? leaning towards maloney as rotation provides W Brom H, Wigan H and RDG H.

I have Sterling and my other cheapie is Noble. I would seriously consider him. He is a guaranteed starter, takes corners, free-kicks and penalties. Apart from one game when he bagged a couple he hasn't done much, but I reckon with Carrol's return and the aerial threat he brings, Noble may get more assists. The fact he takes penalties (I think he scored 7 last year) gives him much more opportunities than the others for getting points.

McAnuff is also a good choice, but I would have him or Sterling not both, as neither is on set-plays.

Getting conceans about defoes pitch time now that ade is back, might but berbs in for defoe, would have done a straight swap for jelly but 0.1 short, why i put getting rid of evans with the fixtures coming up i'll never know, maybe worries over the lack of clean sheets by their standard.

IMO I think that;s quite a good side as it is, if your intending to play demel then fair enough but I'd save your transfer and let him rot in the subs unless needed until the fixtures get better, at least when he's fully fit he should be nailed on mate bench or 90 mins.

Is it worth getting in a defender as a 3rd MU player, saving the transfer or get rid of lambert. My team is:

    Bego (Foster)
    Baines, Gorkss, Williams (Demel, Hangeland)
    HBA, Valencia, Michu, Pienaar (Noble)
    RVP, Lambert, Tevez

Any suggestions welcome. I've got 2m to play with.

    Ivanovic - Rafael - Gibbs - Demel - Davies
    Bale - Mata - Michu - McAnuff - Sterling
    RVP - Suarez - Holt

    0.5m spare, 1FT

    @ Final Flash:

Saw your team in previous post. How did you manage such an high value team? You must have taken some hits by now, no? Kept the big hitters from the beggining?

You sell immediately when you spot a possible fall and buy when when is due to rise? That is only possible with consecutive hits in some cases, I reckon...

ya, i usually transfer players right after the game week which is a big gamble since anything can happen in a week. it's something i did last year frequently, and i was never really burned badly by it. but this early in the season, i like to build my team value. but rank>value.

Cheers. I'm trying to do the same myself but made a few mistakes here and there. There are opportunities every week but it's difficult to combine value rise with rank and no hits at the same time. Luckily the season is long and there are lot of other factors to keep in mind. But I do think that value will give you an edge, specially after half the season is through.

ya, it really gave me an edge last year towards the end. the question though is whether taking hits in the long run for value is worth it. most people would say it isn't, but if you can take a healthy amount of hits to gain some value, i think there's definitely reasons for doing so. because if there's anything i hate, it's not being able to buy a player i want because i'm 0.1 short.

Gaston Ramirez or McAnuff? Former seems better and potentially easier fixtures but the double GW sort of makes me lean towards the latter.

Settled on a Gallas, Bale, Aguero -> Rafael, Ramirez/McAnuff, RVP (4 pt hit) transfer.

When he plays at rb against weaker teams he is the best defender to have cause hes like a right winger, however now with the terry suspension and luiz being injured he may need to remain at cb, decreasing his attacking returns.

terry's suspension is almost over so there's not much worry in that. and cahill is a better defender than luiz anyways, so it's irrelevant if luiz is injured.

I'd go Maloney, just because he's a slightly better player in a slightly better team. But they will both score consistent modest totals this season. McAnuff has the fixtures on his side though.

So basically it's a coin toss (but I'd go with Maloney)

Evening all. Missed the match today, as ive been out since this morning. Remember all of you(any of you on here now) who told me to get rid of Long? Fletcher for Long doesn't look so smart these days.

    Not to worry.

I do really really want to get on the West Brom train and have been funnily enough since the second I shipped Long out. I want Morrison but apparently he's now hurt. Lukakus not nailed on. Mulumbu is hardly guaranteed pts. I have Bego in net, but Vorm on the bench. Does Bego rotate with Foster? Even any point having them both?

Have a quick peek and (coupled with trying to accomodate getting RVP in) see how you think I can get a WBA lad in. CHeers.

I brought in Morrison last week as part of a 4pt hit (for Guthrie). It worked out well 🙁

I think if you want West Brom then Vorm>Foster is an obvious choice (and they seem to rotate pretty well actually bar the odd week)

I honestly thinbk that if you want attacking coverage then both Long & Lukaku are too risky a proposition due to rotation.

I'd wait on Morrison news, and hopefully he'll be back next week and playing in the hole where he is such a threat

Nope, I've tried but can't work out a way.

It would probably involve reinstating Long for Fletcher, downgrading Vert to Cuellar or WBA defence, and downgrading a mid, then swap Tevez out for RVP.

      It probably isn't worth it.

The alternative is to swap Bale for Gera and Tevez for RVP.

Beg rotates very well with Foster.

not having RVP is probably a factor.

A lot of it is down to bad luck, like having Bale on the bench for one of the weeks when he scored a crazy amount of points.

should I get Rafael in for Clark? Doing so will leave me with nothing in the bank, and I won't be able to get in another big hitter in my midfield/forwards without some major restructuring over a few weeks. Good move or not?

    Jussi / Bego

    Rafael / Baines – Gorkss/Nelsen/McCartney

    Mata / Bale / Pienaar / Cazorla – Kaca

    RVP / Ba / Berba

I’ve been considering transferring Bale out for a couple of days now, just not sure if it’s the right move or not. Any ideas people?

I'd rather get rid of Santi. Not because Santi is playing badly, but because the team around him is looking beyond poor. Podolski and Giroud are just not scoring the chances he creates.

Despite Bales fixtures, I think he can still score well against the tougher teams.

Kaca>Sterling is another option with the long term in mind. It's much better to have a 5th mid who's actually playing I feel

Don't touch a thing. That is an ace team. Gaffer's advice is sound. Kaca is your only concern, but even he can wait. Save the transfer.

Alreet lads. Best mid for 4.8m? To rotate with Sterling. Is McCarthy an option? Or defender for 4.3m to rotate with stk/QPR? Williamson is only 4.3m, but I don't really want to bring in someone for just 3 games.

I've been warned off sacrificing Bale or Carzola to bring in RVP. And I would be loathe to lose Barfa and have no toon cover for our sweet run. Another option is to downgrade pienaar, but that involves taking another 4pt hit to downgrade a defender.

If I went for Rooney, rather than RVP, I could get Cameron + Ramirez. So the choice becomes something like this

Williamson + Maloney + RVP (or Cuellar + McCarthy + RVP)
    OR
    Wilkinson + Ramirez + Rooney

Morning China! Just had a look at your team - if it were me, I'd do Bale & Defoe -> McAnuff & RVP. Spurs are no in form and have 2 very tough away games next, and it sounds as though Defoe could well be axed after his strop at the w/e and with Adebayor waiting in the wings.

McAnuff rotates fairly well with Sterling and has a DGW looming, and this only costs you 4 points to get in a ready made captain for the next 5 (or 28) weeks.

Then make a plan to bring back Bale (or Ade if he's starting and on form by then) in GW13, probably involving downgrading Kolarov -> an uber cheapie

🙂 This was basically my original plan, but with potentially Kightly rather than McAnuff (see post on next page). But i've been warned off getting rid of bale, as even though he has rubbish fixtures (4 tough away games in the next 6), he gets his best returns in tough away games!!

    GW12: Save
GW13: Jaask & Berba -> Mignolet & Fletcher (triple Sunderland!!)
    GW14: Save
GW15: Baines & Ba -> Sagna & Suarez (leaves me with 1.0m left over in the bank)

    Jaask, Federici
    Baines, Cuellar, Hughes, McCartney, Clyne
    Bale, Santi, Fellaini, Michu, Taarabt

Yeah, I don't like Fletcher right now, but surely (suuuurrrrely) they can't go on creating so little with the likes of Sess, Larsson, Johnson and McClean backing him up. SUN have great fixtures from GW13-16, so if they show any kind of form I think I'll be maxing out on them.
