Following a three-match absence through injury, David Silva arrived back in the nick of time for Manchester City’s Gameweek 11 home clash with Spurs last weekend, giving his team a much needed fillip and Fantasy managers a reminder of his sublime talent.

As the game looked to be stuttering to a 1-1 draw it took an 87th minute spark of genius from Silva to win the match, as he brilliantly exchanged passes with substitute Edin Dzeko and his final, killer ball to the Bosnian was duly slammed home. In addition to the assist, Silva also received two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points for his efforts in turning the game around and accrued a modest but significant seven-point total to herald a welcome top-flight return.

Since his opening day penalty miss at home to Southampton and subsequent 71st minute substitution Silva has struggled to recapture the stunning 2011/12 form that saw him rack up a total of 184 points. With just two assists to his name prior to Gameweek 11 it was clear that injury and fatigue, from a summer helping Spain win Euro 2012, were in danger of scuppering his third season in the English top flight. Two substitute cameos in his first four matches and only 90 minutes on three occasions so far this season have prompted managers to discard him in their droves and has seen his price plummet from 10.0 to just 9.3 in the FPL game. In the Sky Sports game, where no such price market exists, he is still the top priced midfielder at 9.0.

Until Sunday’s return, he had become something of a forgotten man for Fantasy managers, owned by only 4.6% of managers in the FPL game and 6.59% in the Sky game. It is a situation that is set to change over the coming weeks, however, as Silva seems certain for starts and is clearly re-energised from his short lay-off.

Silva also looks to be a key player among the ranks of premium priced midfielders for Gameweek 12, in which Man City host Aston Villa. In comparison to his Spanish countrymen Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla, he has not been selected to endure the international side’s gruelling 28-hour round trip for an away friendly with Panama and is primed to delight those managers who have recruited him this week.

Following the Aston Villa game though fixtures are not ideal for Man City (che, wig, EVE, MAN, new), but as arguably the key player in a team vying to retain the Premier League title, tricky opponents should not cause too much concern for Silva. His return is not only ideal for City, it also affords the opportunity to shake up our five-man midfields with a bona fide top Fantasy performer for those looking for an alternative to the likes of Mata, Cazorla, Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard in the premium bracket.

There is no such thing as maximum rise. It is just the number of buyers it would need hat make it unlikely. Someone has already gone up 0.4 in week 2 this year. Everton player I think but not sure

someone did show me a link to a player who had risen 0.4 in week two, but i cant remember which player. I thought it was hazard but he didnt play in week 3 so his rise was over 2 weeks. i doubted it also until he put up link. Still not convinced myself but cant find any evidence to prove otherwise.
Not that it matters to me as i am one of those that panic after one rise and dive in 🙂

No. 2 wildcards is already too many, those who've carefully nurtured their team over the 1st part of the season have no benefit cos Jan wildcard helps out all those that didn't bother

and with this scenario it sounds like you could have a 4th 5th 6th etc making the playing field unfair against those that can't afford to keep doing it whilst those that are able to would have an unfair advantage especially when it comes to ML's etc.

Anyone else notice parallels between silva and mata? Mata looked a shadow of his current self beginning of the season obvs because of a hard summer. He had a break came back and exploded into form. Silva showed glimpses at the weekend after his break, anyone else feel he might also follow Mata back to top form?

Hmm. I'm thinking about doing it. People keep saying Silva might be rested for CL. THat is pure speculation. If we're speculating we might as well speculate about the form Caz will be in after a 14-hour flight from Panama on Thursday in preparation to play Saturday's early match. Silva will be fully rested and made the difference this weekend. He is more likely to play (and play well) this weekend than Caz.

    http://www.fiso.co.uk/forum/crack-the-code-2012-13-the-fiso-guide-to-fpl-price-changes-t97027.html

can anyone clarify the 0.3 maximum rise situation.
According to FISO link above a player can rise every day of game week if enough managers buy him each day. I am assuming they know what they are talking about.

The reason it normally maxes at 0.3 is the target number doubles every rise and as most people buy the player on the first two days there isn't enough people left to hit a 4th rise, but it is possible.

If I am wrong please prove me so and dont just say no it isnt.( Which will obviously mean some muppet will put that exact answer thinking they are being funny, take note you are not)

No. of transfers you need to hit is the same for every player, regardless of if they've already risen. Therefore 4th rise should be possible. Therefore it is capped at 0.3

At least in as much that it is not capped, there is the option to rise by.4m but it has never happened despite players going over 100% so the measuring criteria must change after 3 rises

I think that the fiso advice relates to how price rises and falls worked in previous seasons.

My understanding is that the doubling of the NTI for each price rise within a week no longer implies but that the number of price rises is capped at three per week.

I'm pretty certain that the big early season risers (Hazard, Michu etc) all topped out at 0.3 despite ending the week with NTI % well over 100%. Let me know if you do find a 0.4 rise - but I'd be surprised.

looking at their site i think they put the player at a large minus rather than double their target, think thats why fellaini and berb are both sitting at -20000 odd. cant work out why else that would be

Yep, that's my understanding too Mosstapha. If a player has risen in price the previous day the 'Todays NTI' appears as a negative number because it includes the subtracted 'NTI' figure from the previous day. It's effectively just a 'resetting' of the NTI figure - but it makes the tables a bit confusing to interpret.

More effective perhaps, but hardly more appealing! 🙂

Seriously, I think he might play better (and more forward) with Silva on form, but it won't imporve the rotation worries, which is why I won't use a precious striker spot for him.
