Some big names went tumbling out of the Fantasy Football Scout Paddy Power Cup VII last weekend. None more so than Granville, who was handed an early exit after losing narrowly to Lrf, while fellow Scout contributor and our man in charge of the Suspension Tightrope, Anorak, also tasted defeat – he lost out 53-76.

Mark remains in the hat for the Third Round after sailing through 57-37 last time out and former world number one Iyad Zahlan also progressed, winning his tie by a four-point margin.

The full list of results can be found be clicking this link.

We’re currently in the middle of sorting the draw for the Third Round and should have that with you for tomorrow morning.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Hey guys, I've posted an article on my blog about 'group consensus' as part of a series on decision making in FPL. It's especially relevant this week when looking at the 'Baines problem'. Feel free to check it out, leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Re Baines out: a simple yes or no would have been fine 😉

And if I gave you a simple yes/no answer, would that satisfy you? How about if everyone gave a simple yes no answer? I think you should read my article! 😉

Seriously though I think if you asked people to do their own watchlist every week then you'd see that Berba probably went from top 3 striker one week to top 5 i.e. still great pick but someone else maybe sneaked about above them.

This is the ridiculous thing that if people were honest they still think he's a good pick!

I think these things are normally rife at the start of the week. There was a lot of "Berba > Fletcher" and "Baines out" talk on Sunday/Monday but it's been quieter today, perhaps because also because we've exhausted the discussion on Baines!

I'd like to write something about Baines' chances created and the nature of them but I'm not sure there's any real conclusions we can make!

This is good stuff, group-think is an interesting phenomenon. I like that you even included references 😉

A good example of group-think would be Cazorla last week.

Oh, and I'm keeping Baines for the foreseeable future!

Cheers! I considered including group-think and it's definitely related. I didn't include it because it works on presumption the that people minimize conflict and don't want to upset group harmony. I'm not quite sure we have a huge problem with that here!

I was looking forward to this and it didn't disappoint. Great stuff. Very well written too.

You could also talk about 'risky shift' in this kind of context. This is the phenomenon in group decision-making where riskier decisions can emerge because of the dispersion of responsibility. Even though people are solely responsible for the decisions they make about their own teams, they may feel less responsible for an emerging consensus of opinion.

Actually, it looks like my information is quite dated 😳 Risky Shift is what they called it 15 years ago. It's now been absorbed into a larger phenomenon called Group Polarization:

Interesting read but comes across slightly smug...not really dealing with the 'Baines problem' either, whatever you mean by that. And it reads like a diatribe against FFS-like sites which are essentially group-think forums.

Well, I certainly don't intend to come off as smug. I think the point is that it's easy for anyone to fall for this, especially those who don't have much time to gather much information themselves.

What I mean by 'the Baines problem' is that a consensus started at the beginning of the week to sell Baines. I noticed a lot of the proponents of this weren't necessarily discussing any new information, just citing the fact that he hadn't had any significant returns over the last few gameweeks and that was the inspiration behind my article. It doesn't aim to deal with 'the Baines problem', rather discuss the existence of it. The point is, there might not necessarily be a problem. Now that we've had chance to gather information and discuss it, a lot less people are discussing it.

        Current back five:

        Gorkss, Mertes, Riise, Caulker, Ivanovic

        Thinking of:
        Ivanovic out-----> Rafael/Evans
        Riise ----> Enrique/Clichy

Could do both for a hit or wait another week. Alternatively i could do nothing and save the transfers but think a Man U defender is a must for this week.

Just do Ivanovic to Rafael and then Riise to Enrique next week.

Not worth the hit, Riise has every chance of a cleanie against low scoring Stoke.

My hyperbole is not aimed at slagging off teams dear to people. It's saying stuff like Baines out or being proud of owning Garrido. It's meant to be humorous. Saying teams are crap all the time is pointless.

Why does everyone want to get rid of Berbatov all of a sudden? 1 week ago he was the essential of the essentials!! One blank from a 7.5m striker, and he's out?

Didnt watch the game, but from what I hear he was still a big threat even with 10 men! Fickle, fickle jerkers..

Yup, although he did seem to be playing deeper and deeper once they went to 10 men. But so what, one bad game and largely because they were down to 10 men.

In that game Ruiz was injured, Petric was injured scoring a goal, and I believe Kacaniklic was already out. Berbs was playing amazing through balls by himself but no one was finishing them. Fulham travel to stoke next and the fixtures get worse. Plus, Suarez scored twice, Ba once and Fletcher once (yes, despite the circumstances)

If you have the funds for Berba -> Suarez or maybe Tevez, this is likely a good move. But getting rid for Ba or Fletcher is too knee jerky after 1 week in my opinion, but hey I'm no expert!

And he is just so fun to own..

I agree. Fletcher would be too knee jerky, but given Ba's stats and his run of awful luck before I say he's a good pickup. Berb is always class, just not necessarily the best for now.

Getting rid for Ba is very dum imo. Ba will outscore him next week and thats it! Then Berbs fixtures are better again. Flecth however has 2 nice home fixtures in next 2 compared to berbs sto che. Then one week after that a dgw so I can understand thinking behind that. Although if you were going to do that then you should have thought about it before and not got Berbatov in only last week. If you got Berbs in last week wanting to keep him LT then a blank against sunderland should not change anything.

Just bad fixtures, che and sto are v bad fixtures for an attacker. I don't think people are getting rid just because he got a blank. I'm keeping however-if I get rid I will certainly just want him back when fixtures improve.

Personally I had always considered Berbs-Fletch gw13 and then back Fletch to Berbs gw17, regardless of prior performances. Fletch's fixtures are just so much better including dgw. However I've changed my mind because I bought Berbs for 7m dont want to buy him back for 7.6.

If anyone is getting rid of Berbatov purely due to his blank against sunderland that is incredibly stupid but is anyone REALLY doing that?! Very silly if people bought him last gw and are getting rid of him now.

Well you would hope not, but I guess the people who rushed him in last week havent experience the joys of a Berba-haul, so some are off to chase points elsewhere.

Agree the fixture swing from Berba -> Fletcher looks hugely enticing, but remember Fletcher hadn't scored in 6 weeks prior to the weekend

I think a win will boost sunderlands confidence and they are bound to score in next few easy fixtures (bar maybe gw15). And If Sunderland get goals you can bet it will be Fletcher getting the majority of them.

I dont think anyone is desperate to ditch, but over the next few weeks he has poor fixtures and Fulham are depleted with injuries. Nobody is saying he is a bad pick, but there are probably better picks short term.

Not sure, WBA and Norwich wont be easy and Fulham are far better going forward than Sunderland, maybe for the DGW but not convinced 4 weeks before. Im thinking Berbatov > Tevez/Suarez is a good move but anything else is a little too sideways for me.

Personally think WBA is much nicer fixture than sto. WBA's defemsive record has only been decent at home and stoke have only let in one at home! Then QPR is ofc much nicer than che.

However TOT is nice fixture for attackers unlike nor. Overall I think over 4 weeks Fletch will outscore Berbs by about 6/7 points. Is 0.3/0.4 worth that many points? I guess thats my question because I will almost certainly want Berbs back!

        Rate my diabolical team 🙁

        Begovic, Jaaskelainen
        Baines, Cuellar, Simpson, Hughes, Nelsen
        Silva, Bale, Fellaini, Taarabt, Maloney
        van Persie, Suarez, Berbatov

        1FT. 0.6 in the bank.

In a bit of a predicament as Fellaini is out. Thinking that it is wise to get rid of Taarabt, but for who? Reluctant to buy Sterling given that I already have Suarez and do not want to become over reliant on Liverpool. Alternatively, I could get rid of Simpson for a cheaper defender. Or I could save and plump for Taarabt at Old Trafford. Thoughts?

yeah I am looking at DDG but not sure where I can find the funds atm, but at 5.6 he looks a steal.

My funds atm are concentrated on getting Aguero in, and no way I'm parting with Migs until at least the end of GW16. Perhaps Ramirez will have to depart to fund DDG.

Tried Glenmorangie and Glenlivet and Glenfidditch. Fine scotch. Don't mind the odd day with Bourbon as well.

If I'm having quarter cask/similar I'll add a small amount of water or an ice cube but generally I like to sip them neat. And never a mixer.

Try this whiskey called Amrut. Its supposed to be one of the finer scotch's and its Indian. And they do not distribute in India! I mailed the owner saying this is disgusting and i got 5 bottles in return. 😀

Can't stand single malt. Love Bourbon and Woodman's Reserve is one of the best. I keep trying single malt but just can't get into it. It has too much nose-flavour and not enough throat-flavour for me.

At the moment it feels like if I can get past Sunday night without making a transfer, I don't use it that week.

It's mostly been to capture team value so far, but these closer GWs are going to be crucial.

Apart from Rafael being mentioned, any other big hitters facing rotation?

i think walters run from such n odd angle is great, noone could ever follow him. the timing of that run is also ridiculously hard to get right because of where he's come from. plus the shielding of defenders. great goal.

        Begovic – Foster
        Baines – Gibbs – Cuellar – Simpson – Nelsen
        Bale – Mata – Cazorla – Pienaar – Sterling
        Suarez – Ba – Berbatov

best replacement for Pienaar after this GW, got 1.3 to spend ? Fellaini ?
I can also downgrade Baines to Enrique or Gibbs to a 4.0 cheapie and get Silva in for Pienaar..

Any advice for this sack of potatoes

        Foster Fed
        Bains Ivan Hughes Demel Clyne
        Bale Afro Sterling Morrison Maloney
        RVP Berba Ba

1ft 3.1m in the bank. Apart from the obvious (Demel) who's for the chopping board and if so who should I get in if not now but for a rollover? Any advice appreciated!
