634x258 The Stock Check

Norwich go eight unbeaten, scoring twice for the first time since Gameweek 6, as the Black Cats leave Carrow Road empty handed. Here’s the Stock Check after Sunday’s events…

On the Up

Anthony Pilkington
Eight goals last season, Pilkington has now blinked on the radar this term having notched his second consecutive home strike after scoring the winner against United. The Norwich midfield has an array of options – notably Wes Hoolahan and Robert Snodgrass; Pilkington emerged as the most profitable option last term and is edging his way to that status now.

Sebastian Bassong
While the Norwich defence was breached for the first time in three home matches, Bassong still delivered for his owners, earning the Canaries opener for his second goal in three outings. Assured of his start in an improved Norwich defence, the former Spurs man has played second fiddle to the popular Javier Garrido but is 0.2 cheaper with a clear threat from set-plays.

Craig Gardner
Much like the Norwich midfield, there are options across Martin O’Neill’s side in this area with Gardner now perhaps emerging as the most potent option. Having struck eight Premier League goals with Birmingham in 2010/11, we know that Gardner can carry a goal threat when given the freedom to support the attack with his long-range shooting. Gardner could have bagged more goals today, denied by a fine Mark Bunn save in the second-half. At 4.9 in the FPL, Gardner offers budget coverage of Sunderland’s double Gameweek.

Going Down

Steven Fletcher
Undoubtedly Sunderland’s main goal threat after firing six goals this term, Martin O’Neill was forced to withdraw his leading scorer with an ankle knock. We await further news ahead of Sunderland’s two fixtures this Gameweek, with O’Neill stating that he is uncertain on the prognosis: further news is expected on Monday or Tuesday.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Begovic (Foster)
    Cameron Nastasic Davies Shorey (Rafael)
    Michu(C) Fellaini Walcott (Bale Maloney)
    RVP Tevez(v) Berbatov

    1FT, 0.8 ITB.

    Looking to keep Bale through the injury as I want no one else at that price. May as well use a transfer for a DGWer. What is better option, leaning to 3 myself..

    1 - Foster --->Mingolet
    2 - Davies--->Cuellar
    3 - Maloney--->McAnuff (play ahead of Nastasic)
    4 - Berba--->Fletcher

      Not sure if AVB will start Adebayor as lone striker. I'd probably go for Berbatov with Ruiz back. Arsenal aren't getting the goals I expected them to at this points:/

      Could not be much in it either way. Norwich and Sunderland aren't exactly leaking and Mata has a blank coming up. Michu might have one too if he sees yellow against Norwich.

      Sooooo, go with your gut 🙂 I'd leave it as is.

    Ruiz(inj)>La Fondre? [Suarez benched].

    Gorks/Clyne>Morrison/Shorey? [I've got Enrique, Reid & McCauley].

    Or

      It's the most pathetic story I've ever read and The Sun needs to get a grip.

      It's quite clearly a joke but The Sun don't have a sense of humour when they're not making the jokes.

      Why it's important to know that he stood up his fiancee before his wedding is also baffling.

      Clark just now, playing well, scoring well, shame about fixtures GW17-19 though.
      Bassong?
      I've had Hughes since the start of the season, and he's been pretty useless tbh.

    Has anyone elses striker picks been terrible this season? Apart from RVP who's been consistent my other 2 strikers seem to fail week after week. I've only had 3 double figure hauls this season from my 2 non-RVP striker slots, the last one was Jelavic in GW6.
    I had Lambert failing for weeks, switched him to Berba and he delivers 4 blanks in a row. Also had Jelavic delivering 2 pointers every week then swapped him for Suarez who gets 1 point and a booking straight away.
    Seems strange in a season where the midfield picks are very straight forward that picking the strikers is so difficult, or maybe I'm just crap at this game.

    On the assumption Bale is confirmed to be injured for 1-2 weeks I can put out the following this week:

    Begovic
    Johnson (vc) / Bardsley (c) / Jose Enrique
    Sterling / Mata / Puncheon / Santi Cazorla
    Berbatov / Fletcher / Van Persie

    Schwarzer / Bale / Sagna / Demel

    It's missing Michu and Fellaini but fixturewise neither appeals to me massively right now. Fellaini might do alright this week but if there's two teams to cope with Fellaini it's Stoke and West Ham that follow. Michu's fixtures are average short-term but he always has that looming suspension. Would you ditch Bale for one of them or go without?

      Team looks fine for this week. I'd save the transfer for this week, then maybe next week downgrade Mata/Bale(if injured) and get Suarez in for Fletcher. Nice double up with Johnson/Enrique, i'll be doing the same next week.

      Fellaini's approaching fixture proof status. I'd sell Mata for him next week,

      Your arguments sound good but they would have both sounded plausible this week. I'd be looking for at least one of them. Whether you waste a transfer doing it for Bale now to get him back in later depends on how you rate Punchy, I guess

      I'm waiting for Michu's next 3 and hoping he picks up his booking during that spell before bringing him in.

      I took the plunge and got Fellaini for Pienaar this week so im a bit biased with that one, but i can see why you'd leave it. He's scoring against everyone though, so Stoke and WHU won't hold any fears. Maybe Mata to Fellaini with rotation/Japan looming?
