Arsenal’s double Gameweek 23 is set to increase interest in Lukas Podolski as Fantasy managers look to take advantage of the London side’s visit to Chelsea and a home game with West Ham. Priced at 8.2 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Podolski looks a ready-made replacement for Demba Ba, who was snapped up by 228,600 managers ahead of the Blues’ double Gameweek 22. Many of the former Newcastle striker’s owners are already nervous about his long-term value under Chelsea’s rotation-obsessed manager Rafa Benitez, with the suggestion that Fernando Torres will start tonight’s encounter with Southampton. Podolski is a straight swap option in the same price bracket.

Amongst Arsenal’s forwards, Podolski certainly looks the safest option; having cemented a role on the left of an attacking three, he has started all but two of the side’s Premier League matches this season. With 89 points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game he is Arsenal’s highest ranked forward – only out-of-position midfielder Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla have produced more points. With six goals scored and six assists this season, Podolski has both threat and creativity in his locker and has attracted 11 FPL bonus points, a tally bettered only by Cazorla and equalled by Walcott. In the Sky Sports game, where he is priced at £8.5m, Podolski also represents good value, having notched 88 points.

While Podolski, who has four double-digit points hauls to his name, is primed for investment ahead of the double gameweek he is not too shabby a purchase for the long term as well. Looking ahead, Arsenal have a kind run of fixtures over the next six game weeks (LIV, STO, sun, AVL, tot, EVE) including four home games and a North London derby with Tottenham, which are often high scoring ties. With Mikel Arteta sidelined due to a calf injury, Podolski looks set to be next in line for spot-kicks, according to his manager – furthering his appeal as a mid-price option.

Those investing in his services can also be assured of a strong pedigree, having scored 44 times in his 106 appearances for the German national side. This includes three goals in the 2006 World Cup and a further three at Euro 2008. Prior to joining Arsenal, on a four year deal this summer, he had just recorded his best top flight club haul for FC Cologne, where he scored 18 times and assisted seven goals in 29 Bundesliga appearances.

There is a slight caveat, though. During tight games Podolski is often sacrificed early on for a more defensive minded player. In Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Southampton in Gameweek 21 he left the pitch on the 57 minute mark and in the following week against Manchester City at home, he departed before the hour once again; while his starting role is not in doubt, there’s every chance Podolski won’t last the full 90 minutes in either match.

Fantasy managers need to assess whether, over two appearances, he’ll be given opportunity to return scores that will surpass the alternatives up front. While Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla remain firm favourites for the armband, Podolski appears to offer the next best route for those looking to treble up on attacking assets in Wenger’s lineup or avoid using up two midfield slots, with such riches available in that position elsewhere. The injury to Arteta, bringing spot-kicks into the equation, may just seal the deal for some.

I'm really not in the mood for working so I'm reading horse meat jokes (some good; some very very bad) and how Robert is mildly embarrassed about what a state he looks.

He doesnt know what he looks like so is presumably assuming the worst, and thus mortifyed.

          Nobody has any idea.

          Probable:

          Azpi - Ivanovic - Cahill - Cole
          Luiz - Ramires
          Oscar - Mata - Hazard
          Torres

Though Cahill may not play due to his recent baby, Terry might be back in (though seems unlikely), Luiz thus might be shifted back to defence, Lampard might play, Ba might oust Torres, one of the three attacking midfielders may be rested for Marin...

El Confidential report that Chelsea have reached a preferential agreement with Malaga for Isco. So, the coaching team led by Rafa Benitez will have priority over other clubs when signing Isco. This was agreed as part of the Lucas Piazon loan deal, which went through yesterday.

Young = LW, Nani = RW. Young has been playing RW as Valencia is out of form and we have no one else.

Nani offers something no other winger at the club does. Pity his decision making and final ball are wrong too often

Yeah I guess we don't keep sheep as pets. Mostly.

I suppose if you think about the most universally popular meat, it's the usual suspects of beef, chicken, pork. Those creatures aren't quite stereotypically cute enough to form an obstacle to their consumption.

I think I'm brainwashed by stereotypes about animals. When I look at pigs the first thing I think of is their allegedly extremely potent bite. The first word I associate with 'chicken' is 'headless'. And cows just look like walking steaks to me.

I genuinely came close to becoming vegetarian in my teens.

I agree with the BBC here. I've been vegetarian for 5 years, but when I ate meat I treated it all equally. I think there's a strange hierarchy people have with meat, whereas for me it's all or nothing.

The fact that it wasn't advertised as horse would be a problem though.

Can anybody tell me why everyone's so excited about Marc Wilson coming back? Is it purely because he's a very cheap nailed-on Stoke defender? Don't get me wrong that is attractive but the way everyone talks about him on here you'd expected him to be a goal machine or get a load of bonus points... which it doesn't look like he does.

Sam Allardyce is an alien from Plutark and has an odd fascination for Earth's criminal society of the 1930s. He is the head of Limburger Industries, the biggest industrial company in Chicago. Wearing a mask in order to look human and a purple suit at most times, he attempts to mine it and other parts of Earth of various resources including random earth, dirt, rock, snow, metal and oil. He is highly resourceful and cunning, but always failing due to the biker mice's interventions. His headquarters is a very tall tower called Limburger Plaza. Unfortunately for him, his plans are foiled and his tower is either destroyed, torn down, launched into space or even disappears completely by the Biker Mice at the climax of almost every single episode. Big Sam reappears in the 2006 sequel series, but as a bootlicker for the Pit Boss.

would rather Aguero than Rooney if I was going for a big 3 up front. Like Taarabt, Walcott and maybe even Pablo tho

I love how at the start of the season everyone is desperate to get an awesome rotation going and by January only very few people are looking at it... "Sod it, I'll just get Baines"

    Currentlymy team is
    Guzan/fed
    Gibbs/luiz/obrien/stam/gorkss
    Mata/Walcott/Lennon/Pienaar/punch
    RVP/suarez/dzeko

Will be WCing after next GW. So for next GW do I sell one of Pie/ Lennon and get one more DGWer ( cazorla, Nolan, Jcole) or Someone like Michu. Not keen to touch the forwards before WC.

For me it's Mata or Cazorla. I cannot fit him in otherwise. That would make the Chelsea v Arsenal game very interesting.

Potential rotation with Borini, Sterling, Downing once Europa League starts. Might start against Norwich though.

Except Sturridge is likely to play as lone striker with Suarez dropping deep. So perhaps rotated with Borini, but unlikely, as I think Borini/Sterling/Downing will rotate the support spots with Suarez nailed on in the other and Sturridge nailed on up top.

After he is match fit though, which I don't think he is enough to start against Norwich.

Good lord you have MAJOR selection issues!!

Berbatov is the only one that jumps out as a shoe in for the bench there im afraid. The rest should all play and get lots of points. Regardless of who you bench, you are going to have points on the bench!
