634x258 The Stock Check

An ten-minute avalanche ensures that another double Gameweek delivers big returns as Arsenal’s key attacking assets come good. Over at the Liberty Stadium meanwhile, Swansea’s progress to the Capital One Cup Final is somewhat overshadowed by an extraordinary sending off for Eden Hazard. Here’s the Stock Check on Wednesday’s action…

On the Up

Lukas Podolski
Having missed Sunday’s clash through illness, the German chose the second fixture of the double Gameweek to deliver his biggest haul of the season, including a trio of quick-fire assists. Whilst he was again replaced for the fifth match running, with three home fixtures in the next four and in this form, Podolski will surely go on earning new suitors and enjoy a further price rise prior to next week’s midweek deadline.

Theo Walcott
Backed with the armband by so many Fantasy managers, Walcott delivered once again with his second goal of the Gameweek, plus the assist for Giroud’s first goal. Walcott’s consistency is there to be admired: he’s scored six goals in his last seven starts and has only failed to return in one of those matches. Regardless of whether he plays as a striker or winger, Walcott is potent.

Santi Cazorla
Arsenal’s playmaker had failed to notch since his stunning hat-trick at Reading but timed his return to the scoresheet for the double Gameweek. While he has now moved on to eight goals and assists for the season, with Walcott continuing to stream returns, only those looking for a differential or brave enough to double on Arsenal’s attacking assets, will surely consider Cazorla over Walcott right now.

Olivier Giroud
Against the odds, the Frenchman started both double Gameweek fixtures and tonight delivered unlikely returns. The brace moved him on to eight goals for the season and, at 7.8, he’s comes in cheaper than Lucas Podolski. For those looking to back the Gunners over their three home fixtures in four, Giroud is yet another differential option to consider, although his security of starts remain in question.

Going Down

The West Ham Defence
Backed with double Gameweek investment, few would have expected returns from the trip to the Emirates but, having leaked five goals, the Hammers back four has conceded 12 in their last six league outings. It’s one clean sheet in twelve and Sam Allardyce will surely make an improvement at the back a priority having regularly emphasised the need to build survival plans on shut-outs.

Joe Cole
Having notched in Saturday’s league outing with QPR, Cole was rested to the bench tonight as he continues to build his fitness on his return to regular action. While the decision to preserve Cole is understandable, it will dent the confidence of would-be investors who will now likely reserve judgement until Cole has strung together further consecutive appearances.

Eden Hazard
Dismissed for what appeared to be a kick on a Swansea City ball-boy, the Belgian will serve a violent conduct charge that will come with a three-match ban that will see him miss league matches against Reading and Newcastle. We can only wait the fall-out to see if any further action will be taken which could see the ban increased. The dismissal capped a night to forget for Rafa Benitez who started with Demba Ba up front but saw his side frustrated by the defiant Swans.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd keep, I think he's in line to start again after that and Liverpool's defense away from home AND versus top teams has not been good.

Nah I agree, it's not so black and white. But in my head Swansea are improving defensively while West Ham are a shadow of the defensive performance they churned out in the beginning of the season. Also Davies is even attacking a little now.

          Shot is either:

          goal (on target)
          saved by keeper (on target)
          blocked by defender (off target)
          missed (off target)

So harsh as it seems, goal-line clearance is same a long distance shot thats blocked 😯

The question is can you save an off target shot? If the keeper tips it for a corner but it was bending the wrong side of the post does it still count? Do they bother checking all the angles on the replay?

Or if the ref plays advantage for an offside because the keeper saved it, then blows the whistle after the offside player goes for the rebound do they scrub that save?

Morning all, I would appreciate any input into my predicament….

Is Podolski > Fletcher still the right move for this week as I was planning all along? I’m feeling the temptation to keep the Aryan pin-up after his exploits last night.

But surely a fellow who only ever plays 60 minutes is not a great option long-term?

Other option for my free transfer would probably be Mata or Walcott > Bale.

      What say ye?

      Bego (Fed)
      Gibbs Clark Davies (Luis, Demel)
      Fell Michu Walcott Mata (punch)
      RvP Ba Ruiz

Thought a subbing Luis and Ba for 5m def and Suarez. But I would like to see Ba play vs Reading. Maybe only take out Luis so I can sub two players the week after and either bring in Suarez or other big hitter in midfield and take out Ruiz.

      Any ideas welcome:)

Probably been foolish, already done my transfers for this week. Was worried about Ba's imminent drop but shouldn't have done my other till later, serves me right for looking at this early in the morning.

      Mariappa & Ba > Rafael & Dzeko

      Leaves me with:

      Foster
      Zabaleta | Rafael | Gibbs
      Walcott | Michu | Fellaini | Mata
      RVP | Suarez | Dzeko

      Cerny | Demel | Harte | Guthrie

      +1.0m

Think I will be upgrading Foster > Mignolet next week. Look alright?

Guess i could look into that. Azpi has been fairly attackin though lately. And Dawson...well, he's started the last six i think. Low price for a tot defender.

      Mornin' all,

Anyone else 'bored' with the template mid?

I've got a mid of Mata, Wally, Bale, Michu, and Puncheon, with RVP, Suarez and Pog upfront. Would shipping out Bale and Pog for a combo like Lennon/Fletcher, or even A Johnson/Dzeko, yield more points? (ok ok, so it's about points not boredom)

Would greatly appreciate your counsel - thanks fellas

Is anyone more than a little bit miffed about the whole Podolski thing? He was a viable option up until his flag on Friday which completely ruled him out as a DGW gamble for most people. Then he goes and scores 17 points in one game and the ones who transferred him in early chasing the price rise get all the benefit. The flag essentially screwed all the patient ones over.

      Rant over

But for me it would have been for a hit, I was never going to transfer in a guy who was going to get under 70 minutes in a DGW. It made no sense whatsoever.

I bought him 3 mins before deadline even if he was yellow flagged.. Was mainly because of DGW and W Ham match! Anything in the Chelsea match would have been a bonus and was not too confident on Giroud play time and Arsenal defense..

Don't agree. I waited and brought in Santi, probably as a result of the flag - but just because people were not patient or wanted to beat a price rise they still deserve the points when their punt comes off. Why shouldn't they be rewarded for it?
