Typically, a double Gameweek for United would have Fantasy managers clambering to snap up a piece of the action but the league leaders’ recent downturn in form is a cause for concern. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side approach their pair of fixtures on the back of consecutive losses against Chelsea and City and have triumphed just twice in their last six in all competitions, thanks to narrow 1-0 wins over Reading and Sunderland:

The Prospects

First up for United is a trip to Stoke – a side struggling at both ends of the pitch. Tony Pulis’ troops have picked up a single point in the last six and the resilience that made their backline such sure-fire Fantasy assets earlier in the season is long gone, with a single clean sheet accrued from Gameweek 19 onwards. In attack, they’ve been equally poor, scoring just four times in their last eight league matches- a promising sign for United’s defence as they arrive with a record of six clean sheets in the previous seven. Up top, though, Ferguson will be desperate for improvement – the league leaders have scored just once in each of their last three and with the Potters desperately battling the threat of relegation, a battle can be expected.

United then make their way to West Ham the following Wednesday. Sam Allardyce’s side are not yet clear of the threat of relegation but will buoyed by the fact that they have scored in all but one of their 15 Upton Park matches this term – indeed, only seven sides have scored more goals in front of their own support. While the Hammers have two clean sheets in their last four, both have arrived on the road courtesy of backs-to-the-wall performances; their more offensive approach at home has produced a single clean sheet at Upton park since Gameweek 10.

The Likely Lads

Having started each of the last 16 league matches, David De Gea looks a secure options between the sticks. Prior to Monday’s Manchester derby defeat, the Spaniard had registered six back-to-back clean sheets and with Ferguson’s recent rotation policy threatening the game time of many of the back-four, the 5.8 priced De Gea has been the only constant.

United’s congested fixture list saw Patrice Evra rested to the bench but with the club now out of all cup competitions and struggling for form, Ferguson is likely to call on his regulars as he looks to steady the ship. Second only to a certain Dutchman for FPL points at United this season, the 7.3 priced Evra’s four goals and six assists have helped him amass 134 points – 55 more than any midfield team mate.

Rafael hasn’t quite offered the same level of consistency or offensive threat but the Brazilian’s chances of playing both games improved with the news that Chris Smalling missed Monday’s defeat due to an injury. With the former Fulham man still a doubt, Rafael’s owners will be confident of plenty game time over the two matches – he offers a cheaper route into the United defence than Evra, coming in at 6.2 in FPL.

Robin Van Persie’s recent toils have been well documented on these pages. The Dutchman has notched just once in the last eight Gameweeks as his debut season at United stutters towards the finishing line – only 18,000 FPL managers have snapped him up this week, a sign of his malaise if ever there was one. Having scored against both his upcoming opponents earlier this season (for a combined 20 points) a similar contribution from the 37% owned Van Persie would prove significant to our Gameweeks.

A spate of injuries has hit Wayne Rooney hard this term. The former Everton man has started just eight away matches this season, finding the net in four of those fixtures and returning double figures on the road three times. A mere 8% ownership makes Rooney a real differential and with five goals in the last eight to Van Persie’s one, there’s no doubt who United’s form forward is ahead of the double.

Cheeky Punt

For a side that has afforded us such strong midfield options in seasons gone by, United have been hugely underwhelming this time round – Michael Carrick is the top points scorer in the centre of the park with just 79 points so far. Indeed, only once in the entire campaign has a United midfielder produced double figures; Shinji Kagawa in Gameweek 28. The summer signing from Dortmund’s hat-trick and subsequent 21 point return served a reminder of his Fantasy potential and while his acquisition doesn’t come without risk – two starts in four since returning from injury – the upside is obvious for those looking to take a considerable gamble.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Hey folks

Here is my team (0 FT):

    Begovic

    Baines, Evans, Mertesacker, Samba, Davies

    Cazorla, Fellaini, Gervinho, Sissoko, Michu

    RVP, Lambert, Suarez

Begovic to DeGea worth a hit?
Any other transfers worth a hit?

    Thank you

Yeah. But I'm going to captain either RVP or Berbs I think.

Got a feeling Arsenal are going to be a disappointment this GW. Berbs playing a cack Villa defence and possibly Chelsea's B team.

Thanks lads, I will try get Theo in so for sure.

Cazorla captain for me nomar, Norwich are prone to the odd thrashing and Everton defence is not exactly watertight. RVP is not at the races lately, he fizzled out end of last season too if I recall correctly. Berbs could be a decent shout although I'm not sure he will have defenders as obliging as Samba!

Wilshere looks more likely to start than Walcott.

      I think it will be

      Arteta, Ramsay(or someone else)
      Gervinho, Wilshere, Caz
      Giroud

Wilshere could also play deep, that would put caz central and OX or Poldi wide. I cant see Walcott starting the first one.

Just listening to the Scout Cast discussion regards captains choice.

Is anyone that surprised? The double points of the captain is one of the biggest differentials you can have. Someone is bound to get it right more weeks then not and those that do, shoot up the ranks. That is what probability is.

Not taking anything away from those in the top 100/500/1000/10000 etc but there is a great deal of luck involved and some are bound to get luckier than others. That also is probability.

        Yes 😀 in a way......

Once you're in the top 1000,000 your final position is 80% down to luck. And you captains choice is about 50% down to luck on top of that, assuming you'll captain someone from your front 6 or 7, most times......

No doubt there is a lot of luck in it. But it also takes judgment and a willingness to take risks. Choosing RVP less, and making that choice count, is not just about luck. If a person tends to get it right more than others is that all luck? In any one game week it can be pure luck but over 38 probability suggests it will even out unless there is another element such as good judgment.

Agreed to a certain extent......but ultimately captaining RVP for the same GWs that he scored massively would propel anyone up the ranks.

Guessing which those GW's are/were is down to luck......

    Michu to Walcott/Pienear

I would do Michu to Walcott. Michu is guaranteed a 0, so it's low risk. At this stage of the season, I usually like to take a little more risks.

Also depends on your situation and league opponents i guess.

From end of last article...Please wise ones give me your advice. Massively appreciated:

30 points ahead of my rival and very worried that he has Suarez. Rival has taken a 4 point hit (I bet he’ll take another for Walcott tonight too).

I’m getting in Sagna and Walcott for sure AND doing one of these:

    Sturridge to Berbatov (-8 total)
Sturridge to Suarez and Michu to Maloney (-12 in total)

Am I mad to do a 12 point hit which involves bringing in 2 non-DGW players? I’m justifying it by saying that Maloney ha sa DGW later on, so it’s merely a deferred hit. My rival could make a lot of ground on me with Suarez at Reading and I’d really like to cover it.

I never do hits like this – am I being stupid?

maybe just bring in Walcott. I have learn that whatever you do Sod's law seems to apply

      e.g.
Buy lambert after goal run. no goals for 3 games- sell. scores again

Believe you me it's been the story of my season so I wouldn't go for it.

RVP (c) makes sense right. The fact he's desperate enough to claim that own goal was his, shows he is determined to get the Golden Boot and with 2 games I can see him getting at least 2 goals from this DGW

Hmmm. "Desperate" isn't good in a striker. "Confident" is good...

He's a terrific player, but he's not on top form right now. Trying to claim the credit for own goals is a sign of his weakness right now, not his strength. I don't have him, and won't be buying him for the DGW. For that amount of money, he needs to be firing on all cylinders. Better value elsewhere.

(Having said that, I do think that, over two games, Van Persie will get attacking points. But not enough points to justify buying him at that price. Or captaining him, when he has two away games, and Arsenal have two at home.)

    2FT's

Was thinking about doing Mata, Azpli and Davies to Fellaini, Baines and Sagna for -4.

But since Mata was not involved in euro game i don't know if it's worth it since he could do some damage against Fulham. Also Double coming up so..

Defence is Sagna - Wilson - Turner (Davies - Dawson).

So if Wilson doesn't make it I'm down to 2 with the blanks. I've got 0.3 going spare and any move is for a hit.

Would you lose someone for a WHM (not very enticing double) or SOU (rotates well with Turner) this week for -4 or hold on.

Davies has the double coming up but Taylor may be back. Wilson has the fixture this week but it's MUN and he may not be fit AND Stoke hardly look good for the run-in.

    Repost

    Ideas on this team?

    Mig Fed
    Figs Clyne Martin (Pearce Davies)
    Santi Fellaini Mata Hazard (Puncheon)
    RVP Suarez Lambert

    0 Fts, 1.4 in bank

Feel I need a hit or 2 to make it stronger.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance. 🙂

Anything you'd change on this WC?:

    Fabianski (Robles)
    Baines, Sagna, Demel (Turner, Wilson)
    Cazorla, Fellani, Gerrard, Silva (Maloney)
    RVP, Rooney, Berbatov

    £0.1m left in bank.

Anyone thinks Evans could have a start? Maybe even two? Seems like he would be good to have against Stoke...

Is Walcott Zab/Nast Coutinho an option?

If not, then A), but I don't like Henderson

    FABIANSKI
    RAFAEL Wilson Zabaleta
    CAZORLA OSMAN Mata Fellaini
    RVP BERBA Benteke
    (Mignolet, Hazard, Davies, Pearce)

Any of these worth a hit?

    a) Pearce > Demel (otherwise will have to field Wilson or Pearce - both may not play)
    b) Hazard > Walcott (means benching Mata)
    c) Benteke > Giroud
