An extraordinary day of football is dominated by Luis Suarez’s bearing his teeth in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Anfield. Whilst the Premier League’s leading scorer emerged from his recent goal drought to seal a late point, disciplinary action for an apparent bite on Branislav Ivanovic looks on the cards. Meanwhile, at the Lane, Gareth Bale comes good to maintain his incredible consistency and Tottenham’s Champions League claims, possibly handing the title to United tomorrow night in the process. Here’s the Stock Check on Sunday’s events.

On the Up

Gareth Bale
Subdued for 75 minutes today, Bale predictably played a big role in Tottenham’s revival, providing Clint Dempsey’s equaliser before adding a superbly taken third to put the game to bed. Bale recovered from an ankle injury to make a return to the starting XI today and has now scored or assisted in eight of his last nine league matches. There’s little doubt that he is already the hottest property ahead of Gameweek 36, with Fantasy managers surely looking for a “route to recruit” in time for that, or even next weekend’s trip to Wigan.

Jermain Defoe
The introduction of Defoe provided the catalyst the dramatic White Hart Lane turnaround. Having enjoyed early season form, Defoe could now find himself handed the opportunity of a late flourish having notched his eleventh of the season in today’s win. Defoe could well be a daring differential for Tottenham’s Gameweek 36 double.

Daniel Sturridge
The former Chelsea man started life on the bench but emerged to springboard the Liverpool revival with an effervescent display, capped by goal and assist returns. Sturridge will surely be in the driving seat for starts over the remaining four matches, particularly if Suarez earns retribution from the FA for the second half incident involving Ivanovic.

Juan Mata & Eden Hazard
Both Mata and Hazard continue to be integral to Chelsea’s fortunes and, having returned points in the win at Fulham in midweek, the pair were again in profit at Anfield. Mata’s dead-ball delivery provided two further assists to take him to 16 for the season, while Hazard stroked home his ninth goal this term, benefitting from spot-kick duties with Frank Lampard benched. It remains to be seen if Rafa Benitez’s rotation policy dents the output of the pair for Chelsea’s double Gameweek, but there’s little doubt that there will be plenty of Fantasy managers willing to take the risk in the search for a major last gasp haul.

Going Down

Luis Suarez
While the Uruguayan came away with goal and assist returns to end his recent barren spell, the incident involving Branislav Ivanovic, in which he appeared to bite the Chelsea defender, was an extraordinary act that will surely put Suarez in serious disciplinary trouble. The striker has previous in this area – having been banned for seven matches whilst with Ajax in the Dutch leagues. Any charge from the FA would likely lead to a ban that would end his season and possibly spill over to the next. We can only await developments.

Sergio Aguero
An unused substitute at the Lane today, few Fantasy managers will be contemplating taking a risk on the Argentine until we see his fitness confirmed by a City start. Aguero had looked a prime asset for the Gameweek 36 double but, unless he is given the nod against West Ham next weekend, it seems unlikely that many will be prepared to gamble on getting two matches from Aguero in Gameweek 36.

David Silva
The impish Spaniard is another who will have been targeted for consideration ahead of City’s double fixtures but he too missed out in today’s encounter. Reports confirmed that, while Silva’s hamstring was no longer an issue, he rolled his ankle in training, keeping him out of today’s matchday squad.

Emmanuel Adebayor
Hauled off on 71 minutes, his departure coincided with the Spurs revival that saw them strike three quick-fire goals. With Defoe taking his opportunity, Adebayor’s miserable season back in Spurs colours looks to be compounded by a spell on the bench, with the Togo international now far from certain of a start at Wigan next weekend.

Demba Ba
The Senegal striker looked likely to earn a start at Anfield but Rafa Benitez chose instead to go with Fernando Torres for the second consecutive match. Torres disappointed again and investment in either player continues to look ill-advised as both continue to rotate according to Rafa’s now unpredictable schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I would normally but the guy I'm on the late with is also a United fan, he's in the same boat as far as watching it goes. If I call in sick he's screwed. If i go in, we both should be able to get out early and make the 2nd half.

It's fine, what goes around comes around, they'll come a time when they need a favour from me, then they'll get a shock

    Help Please! Guy in need.

Chasing my rival who's 60 points ahead. I'm worth £4m more than him. Surely using hits for the DGW to capitalise my only advantage against him, right? Please say I'm right :/

28 point hit spread over 2 weeks?

Schwarzer, Baines, Evra, Walcott, Cazorla, Fellaini, Coutinho, Townsend & Rooney out.

Hart, Walker, Zab, Mata, Hazard, Silva, Bale, Maloney & Defoe in.

    Hear me out please!

City and Spurs have MUCH better defensive fixtures than United/Everton/Fulham have.

Maloney rotates GREAT with J Rod (my third striker) as he has a DGW and Villa when Southampton play Spurs & Stoke.

I chose to list the players above in a specific order. If you compare each man doesn't it kind of like like it's 4-2 to the dgw team? (Hart/Silva/Bale/Maloney & Baines/Rooney)

Appreciate the replies but why do always people look at the total sum and not at the actual transfers made on their individual merits? I took a 20 point hit last DGW and trust me it paid off.

It should actually work out at around a 14 point hit anyway as the players coming in will play 2 games!

It's not like that man 🙁

Like your reasoning should be based on specific transfers and not just the number 28 as some scary mind blowing figure. Something like: "The defenders you're getting rid off don't actually have bad fixtures and have great attacking threat, also think Rooney to Defoe is a really bad move since he's looking to prove himself" etc.

The defenders you’re getting rid of don’t actually have bad fixtures and have great attacking threat, also think Rooney to Defoe is a really bad move since he’s looking to prove himself.

Seriously though, it's your team. People are reluctant to help if it involves examination of wholesale changes to your team. Try posting each change as an individual question, you are more likely to gather opinions.

Yeah each transfer on it's merit but I can't be bothered to look through 28 point hits worth of transfers. Getmi?

Law of averages, if you take a big pool of transfers chances are most of them won't come off.

Then again you would be pooling your risk the more you take. Don't think hits can be justified en masse for defenders personally.

Also if you assume that the players that score are roughly normally distributed about what you'd expect them to get (probably a crude but justifiable simplification), then it stands to reason some of the players you get rid of will score better thant you expect, some of the players you bring in will score worse than you expect.

What you need to worry about is the same will be true of your rival, so with the hit penalty do you even have the scope to make up the 100 points on him?

Probably not, more arguments against the big hit.

Maybe you'd argue the distribution would be more leptokurtic. Possibly fair going by some of the comments around here during game time. The same argument still stands through the symmetry of the distribution.

            Just my two penneth worth.

I think at the moment it's hopeless for me to make the gap as it is. This is kind of like the last roll of the dice as I'll have 9 DGW players and my rival will have 1-4 (See below). Thanks very much for your thoughts though.

If you have nothing else to play for then that's another story.

                Will make it interesting.

For what it's worth I'd be reluctant to lose Evra and Fellaini for a hit.

Yeah only thing consoling me about Evra is that United play Arsenal & Chelsea.

Consolation for losing Fellaini is that Silva will play Reading soon and has better fixtures til season end. Though Fellaini does worry me!

Do it and enjoy it. Big chance it will work but maybe not enough to catch rival as he'll surely bring a few in himself.

Cheers. I think my rival will actually go with 4 DGW max as he's not aware of the DGW and won't be until GW36 arrives.

You actually haven't got a single DGW player for the GW 36. How is this even possible?

Got rid of Dawson and Bale for different reasons involving last DGW.

Wasn't big on City to be honest apart from defence and already decided to bring in Baines + Evra.

And last week you decided to use your FT to get rid of Berbatov and transfer in Jay Rodriguez (???). I don't get this either.

It was a money making plot hehe. Allows me to fund transfers like Coutinho to Bale and Walcott to Mata.

I did Santi to Bale yesterday, and own Suarez. Disappointed with a GW rank of 700k. In 5 weeks my overall rank has fluctuated across only 14 points. Just can't seem to make the next big leap.

With his apology Luis Suarez has therefore admitted what he did this afternoon to Branislav Ivanovic.

He will definately get a ban now (for those saying the ref didn't see it etc so no ban).

Ironically if the ref DID see it that would be a reason he gets no retrospective ban. That's how messed up the system is.

    A) Walcott + Suarez > Bale + Kone
    B) Walcott + Fellaini > Michu + Sess

    Gotta be A, right?
