The Premier League have this afternoon confirmed both Chelsea and Aston Villa will now start the season with a double Gameweek 1. With the Blues set to face Bayern Munich in the Uefa Super Cup Final on Friday August 30, their home game against Villa, which was initially scheduled for Saturday August 30, has now been shifted to Wednesday August 21.

This news is set to bring the Blues assets firmly onto our Fantasy radars, bearing in mind Jose Mourinho’s side also entertain Hull City on the opening weekend of the new season. Huge investment is now expected to come Chelsea’s way, though Fantasy managers will be mulling over a couple of recent Mourinho comments as they assess just who to splash their budgets on.

The Blues boss admitted Spain’s match in Ecuador, which takes place on August 14, may be a factor in his line-up for the Tigers fixture – something to consider when assessing the likes of Juan Mata, Cesar Azpilicueta and Fernando Torres for our starting XI:

“The players who go for their national teams two days before the opening of the Premier League, it depends a lot on that. Some have to go to Ecuador and come back and arrive in London on Saturday without having slept after a 15-hour flight to train on Saturday morning. If a player plays for England on Wednesday against Scotland, plays for 45 minutes at Wembley and then an hour after the game he is at home in Cobham sleeping, he is in a better condition to play. The team will be decided game after game and week after week. I will have to think about two or three matches at the same time.”

Only yesterday, Mourinho also revealed he will be a little more cautious with Frank Lampard’s game time this term. As mentioned in this morning’s Friendlies Round Up, the veteran midfielder is unlikely to one of the “untouchables” this time around as his manager looks to rest him more often.

The comments perhaps strengthen Eden Hazard’s prospects as the Belgian looks to replicate his start to the previous season, which produced double figures in both his double Gameweek 1 appearances. While loading up on Chelsea looks a viable tactic, a trip to United in Gameweek 2, followed by a blank fixture the following week, also has to be factored into the equation.

For Villa, though, the appeal of a double is significantly lessened, bearing in mind they travel to Arsenal prior to the Stamford Bridge showdown – those eyeing up Christian Benteke, for example, may be a little cautious given the fixtures, though the uncertainty surrounding the Chelsea forwards certainly indicates the Belgian looks the most nailed-on of any double Gameweek frontline option.

We’ll have more on the two sides in upcoming Scouting the Doubles articles – for now, though, this is just a heads-up.

Whats cracking with the double Gameweek then?

Hazard (c) - Bit of a no brainer to be quite obvious.

Lukaku? - He fits the Mourinho game plan, been scoring in pre-season as well.

Cole/Terry/Luiz? - At the moment, i've gone for Luiz, but i've been reading that he has got an international game as well.. They're all nailed on as of yet aren't they?

Benteke - Arsenal, Chelsea then Liverpool.. not in my team i don't think

    Opinions??

i think i might play it safe with Cole, with Terry not playing regularly last season and Mourinho being different with Luiz it's a bit of commonsense. Cole is always an attacking presence as well, so against Hull, he could get a few more as well as a clean sheet.

Big risk/big potential reward. Personally I'd run without RVP, at least for the start while money is needed for Chelsea cover. But if all those big guns fire, you could have a cracking start.

Thanks. Took me a while to find something clever to cover up my shortcomings in the FPL field.

CHE defenders give me a headache and Cech is guaranteed the starts. Hazard is a no-brainer and the only other CHE player I'd contemplate is Lukaku but even he's a risk.

If it all goes wrong in GW1, it's Cech > Mig, Silva > Walcott and RvP > anyone.

Better than trying to upgrade and bring IN the big guns.

Yep that's a good point, always easier to downgrade later. I'm doing the same, starting with Cech/boruc, bringing in Migs later. Haz is a must like you say. Lamps is my punt - he'll probably only get one game but could do some damage in just 90 mins.

              Hmmm. Double CHE mids, eh?

Silva > Lamps would allow me to upgrade the defence or GK slightly.

But I'd still like some MCI in there though.

Thing is, when you downgrade Cech it frees up a million; I'm planning to do Lamps -> Silva then (assuming he hasn't risen in price...hmm it's not watertight I admit).

True, from last season when I looked at top teams most were always ranked near the top to start with you rarely see a team poorly ranked then hit the single or even triple digits

One thing that is always worth looking out for is spells where sides have 3 home games in 4, especially if this is against relatively easy opposition. Looking at the first 12 gameweeks sees the following sets of such fixtures:

Aston Villa (GW 6-9): MCI hul TOT EVE
Aston Villa (GW 8-11): TOT EVE whm CAR
Chelsea (GW 8-11): CAR MCI new WBA
Fulham (GW 4-7): WBA che CAR STO
Hull (GW 4-7): CAR new WHM AVL
Man United (GW 6-9): WBA sun SOT STO
Man United (GW 8-11): SOT STO ful ARS
Newcastle (GW 2-5): WHM FUL avl HUL
Southampton (GW 4-7): WHM liv CPL SWA
Southampton (GW 6-9): CPL SWA mun FUL
Sunderland (GW 4-7): ARS wba LIV MUN
Sunderland (GW 6-9): LIV MUN swa NEW
Swansea (GW 6-9): ARS sot SUN WHM
Swansea (GW 8-11): SUN WHM car STO
Tottenham: (GW 4-7): NOR car CHE WHM
Tottenham (GW 6-9): CHE WHM avl HUL

Looking at the above, particularly attractive are:

Chelsea GW 8-11 Ok, it includes City at home, but this is Chelsea, so looks tempting
Fulham GW 4-7 - Chelsea away is nasty but the 3 home games look good
Hull GW 4-7 - If Hull start at all well, this could be tempting
        Man Utd GW 6-9 - irresistible, RVP a must-have?
Newcastle GW 2-5 - having a Newcastle player from gw2 looks a must.
Southampton GW 4-9 (i.e. both) - two nasty away games, but 4 good home fixtures.
Swansea GW 8-11 - time to think about Michu. Lovely fixtures.
Tottenham GW 4-9 (i.e. both) - Chelsea at home not great, but otherwise 5 lovely fixtures

Worth saying that Sunderland's spell from GW 4-7 is particularly nasty, given they have 3 home fixtures out of 4.

I hadn't previously realised how much I might crave Newcastle cover from gw2.

I guess the first game will give us a chance to evaluate where Sissoko may fit in this season. Certainly he's a contender.

The question is whether to start with a Newc player, or try to get one in after gw1, when there will probably be other burning issues.

(By the way, I completely accidentally hit the downvote button on your post. I don't know if it can go to an appeal, because I certainly didn't man to. My mouse went a little mad. Many apologies.)

What do ye think, with only 2 dgw players, I think that it'll enable me to make sensible transfers for the blank gw3 without having to wc, and of course includes Bale and RVP.

          Coleman, Toure, Turner, Parr, Chester
          Bale, Hazard, Silva, Pilkington, Thomas

Everyone says this but is it really that clear cut? If JRod plays wide they're both 'POO', Ruiz has scored in every pre-season game, takes corners and free-kicks and him and Jol have both commented on getting him more goals this year. Of course I'm a little biased 😉

Hey everyone I'm new to FPL and I have a bit of a rookie question :

Will a player's value ever change when they transfer to another premiership club? I imagine the answer is no, otherwise this stage of the season would just be rumour mill teams & investments...but its just that I'm looking at Williams' potential move to Arsenal and thinking, too good to be true, right?

I dunno...If Wenger looks at FPL stats (and I like to think he does), the Williams would be starting XI, in which case 5m is a steal!

It won't change but Williams might not be first team every week

No. Will change after GW1 based on transfers in and out. Before FF announces it's prices a player's price tends to rise if he's gone to a bigger club.

I think now the double has been confirmed, so long as you have some kind of backup plan for GW4, going without RVP is fine. There's surely no way his price is going to rise early doors, because apart from WCers nobody will be able to afford to bring him in, and you'd think most of those would be activated in GW3 onwards. There is however a possibility he could drop - all it'd take is one blank against Swansea and a brace for Sturridge/Aguero or anyone else and casuals will be jumping off in their droves.

Currently looking at Lukaku, Benteke and Aguero or Sturridge, working on the backup plan part...

Yeah its a gamble isn't it but I would put more money on Bale exploding and Van Persie owners jumping ship to him than the other way around but I've been wrong before...

I totally get the logic of not including RvP, from almost every angle it makes sense not to have him and re-invest the funds elsewhere (Benteke, Lukaku, Giroud up top, or if you don't trust Giroud, Berba and Theo)

But as a match going United fan, I went 4 weeks without RvP last season. It was torture to watch. 14 million or not, I'm not sure i can endure that again

likewise, took me a few hits and a few weeks to scrape back the points last season. Agreed if he starts with a blank the downside risk is tremendous, but isn't that why we use fiso?

How many of you are still going with RVP?
