Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The worst thing I'm finding in picking my FPL team as a first full season player is that a clutch of my players I want are playing abroad so close to the first game. And managers are alluding to the fact that they prob!? won't be picked jet lag etc.

It's almost like I'm forced into an early W/C to get my team early doors. Crazy hard this game.

My advice would be to make a team based on the full season and don't plan your wildcard for any particular GW. I played mine early last season and got 3811 overall, my main mini league rival played his well ate, gw33 or thereabouts, and got top 1000. It depends on so many factors, play it according to your season

    Hey,

I've just been comparing Sky prices V FPL prices in the hope of conjuring up some value in the former game. My conclusions?...

Bale (if he stays) & RVP are absolute no brainers but you'll NEVER guess who the two biggest anomalies are...

Dzeko. Love it. Been throwing that around a bit, and while a risk, could pay off. He's in my squad atm. The rest, tho needs tweaking. Fellaini will be deep this season, Gerrard deeper thancoutinho, downgrade Komps to upgrade Bellamy who is actually a midfielder..... Johnson out for toure. Consider Bale too.

Thoughts people? Toying starting with 3 chelsea + rooney (just in case he moves) and 2 villa players, with a wildcard to this in week 2 -

    Mignolet / Boruc
    S Taylor / Cueller / Clyne / Collins / Amorebieta
    Wiltshire / Snodgrass / Bale / Coutinho / Jarvis
    RVP / Lukaku / JRod

Quite like the idea of SUN/NEW rotaion and SOU/WES double rotation, allowing Bale/RVP...

If Amorebieta, Taylor, JRod or Lukaku don't appear to be nailed on after week 1 I will have a change of plan.

Lukaku won't be nailed on - he is competing with Ba and Torres and will take a while of coping with this before he has any chance of securing the starting spot.

Taylor will have problems dealing with competition from Yanga Mbiwa.

Amorebieta and J-Rod should be fine.

Any particular logic behind the Wilshere pick? Injuries aside, he still is never a great fantasy scorer.

I have a feeling he will be great value for 6.5 this year, good chance he will play in the hole and if he doesnt the new bonus points system should work in his favour. He is one of 3 that has been in every draft of my team so far.

Figured it would be a straight swap between those 2 at newcastle, whoever starts week 1 will be taking that spot. As for

Lukaku, your probably right, plenty of options in that range though, Berba after week 1 being one of them.

Give the Gnu a Gold Medal!

Too highly priced on Sky of course but a bloody good enabler on the FPL.

FPL nearer the mark than Sky, but could be a real bargain, a big could mind you.

The stand-out value in the sky game appears to RvP.

RVP & Bale are total no brainers in the SKY game. They're actually easily affordable there compared to the FPL (unbelievably Mata costs more than Bale!) but it effectually makes it a 9 player game - unless Bale goes to Madrid of course.

Have at it, boys. Plans are to have RVP by GW3 (by which time it might be too late, but c'est la vie).

    Foster (Boruc)
    Luiz, Coleman, Collins (Yanga-M, Clyne)
    Silva, Hazard, Walcott, Mirallas (Thomas)
    Lukaku, Benteke, Aspas

    1.5m in the back pocket.

I would downgrade Yanga and Clyne to Parr and Chester and upgrade Thomas or Aspas.

      Nice team though 🙂

Seeing a lot more teams packing four pricier mids. I think three should do which will allow a bit more put towards defensive options like Mignolet and Mertesacker.

Solid team. How sure are we that Mannone will be Sunderland's no.1 GK?

Also re Silva, he's been looking great in pre-season but he is not much of a goalscorer. I think we should all bring in City cover, but one of the attackers will really take off and it might be hard to predict which one..

    A) Jagielka and Chester

    B) Coleman and Turner (Norwich)

(Chester or turner would be on the bench)

I would go with A until we know what Martinez's preferred line-up is. If Coleman is likely to start B is superior as Norwich have excellent fixtures.

new to this, on any day id say Bassong but wanted to know what others think would be the best budget option for norwich defense.

I would consider Bassong the premium option in Norwich defence. Advantage of Turner is that you won't mind benching him.

Hows David Silva looking for start of season? took a punt on him but if he doesnt look like hes performing well in pre-season then might go for the looks of Michu.

City have three more friendlies, I think its best to pick the attacking players that appear central to Pellegrini's plans. Hard to say at the moment, even the previously unfavoured Dzeko is making a real claim for the CF spot.

Don't think he is nailed on. The Aston Villa attacking midfield is a bit of a minefield, might come clearer later on.
