Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Why is everyonbe choosing Hazard instead of Mata. Surely the later has greater potential?!

Do you guys don't have him because of the one Mourinho quote (possibly not playing the first game because of international duty..) or is there more to it?

    Cheers in advance..

Nearly everyone had Hazard over Mata anyway. The general expectation is that Hazard is in for a big year now he's gotten used to the league and is more of a goalscorer than Mata who likes to assist a lot. Hazard is also ahead of Mata in the pecking order for penalties and is 1m cheaper.

I like my team which means there's got to be something wrong with it. Over here in the States, we play by FPL rules, but some guys are priced differently and are in different positions than you guys have:

    Jussi (Boruc)

    Ivan/Clyne/Rat (DeBuchy, Tamas)

    Michu/Santi/Coutinho/Kagawa (El Ahmadi)

    Lukaku/Benteke/Hazard

    Thoughts?

Tamas won't be getting any gametime.

Needs more Bale. Could you perhaps do Kags and Michu to Mirallas and Bale? Difficult without seeing the prices you're working with...

I'm okay with Tamas not seeing much playing time. I'm sure I'll have him out by week three. Mirallas is considered a Forward here and Bale actually costs more than Kags and Michu combined

Last year you had a scheme for value of players at the start of the season in def, mid and attack. It served me well last year but I lost my notation.

It looked something like this :
    4.5 4.5
    6.5 6.0 5.0 4.5 4.0
    9.5 8.5 6.5 5.0 5.0
    10.0 9.0 7.5

    Can you please repeat?

Am I in the minority wishing Bale stays from an FPL view? I plan on having him and RVP plus it's interesting to see all the different opinions on prices and who is worth it. I'm afraid teams will fall into an even bigger template if he leaves.

From an FPL point of view Bale leaving makes things better IMO. It will mean that RvP's ownership will rise but it will force people to be imaginative in choosing their 3rd or 4th big-hitting midfielder. Personally I would probably jump on Silva from GW1 instead of getting in GW2 or GW3 but there are loads of options out there, e.g Michu, Caz, Mata etc.

Away from FPL however, I will miss Bale if he leaves and it will make the PL a little less exciting next season.

JRod can also play RW since Puncheon has been down on the pecking order since Pochettino's arrival.

JRod hit great form at the end of last season and Poch seems to like him. Ricky is getting on now so I expect to see his game time rotate. Ricky up front, then Puncheon on and put JRod as striker... that's what I would expect

You could tweak option A) to give you Sess, Snoddy and Kone

So, I'm sure it's been asked many times, but if Bale leaves who will people be downgrading to?

Also, I'm sure it will mean that those initially planning to go without RvP will upgrade?

Someone talk to me about build my team and the GK situation...is it broke..they explain some reason about numbers behind the numbers...which was very wooley.

    GW2 > Mignolet 3.44, Gazzaniga 0.16 ....bench Mig???

If Gazzaniga plays he is expected to get more points. He is not expected to play, hence the 0.16. As he is a keeper, the risk of him coming on for the single pointer is remote.

          Koren
          - Da hole
          - Pens (i think)
          - Scores goals

          Brady
          - Assist beast
          - Will probably get more minutes

Brady should improve this season, still young, will contribute goals and assists. It's tight between him and Koren because Koren is on pens.

Last year Koren was playing in the whole and was one of their top goalscorers. If he's nailed on and is on Pens, you've got to go for Koren haven't you?
