Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Here's my team, feel free to critique:

    Mignolet, Davis

    Coleman, Dawson, Luiz, Collins, Turner(Car)

    Walcott, Bale, Coutinho, Hazard, Thomas

    Giroud, Aspas, Anelka

I'm pretty happy with the defence. My worry is that I have no Man City cover for the early weeks, but with very few nailed on starters that's why i'm avoiding that for the moment.
Aspas is a risk I know, but I figure he can go pretty early on if he isn't starting, and I can't see much else of value for a similar price.

      Hull

      Schurrle - Oscar - Haz

        Hull

        Schurrle Oscar Hazard
        Lukaku

        AVL

        Schurrle/Mata Mata/Oscar Hazard

    Evening all,
Am happy to start with out RVP in my team, its just his GW4 fixture at home to Crystal Palace that scares me if I don't have him. Plan on starting season without him and then as I move on my Chelsea players for the GW3 plank, see if I can afford him. Its a very risky option and would involve dropping say Hazard down to a 5m Mid and hoping there are no injuries or suspensions elsewhere in the team. Will have Bale in at the start and its hard to get a combination of Bale/RVP and Chelsea cover for the DGW.

Plenty of picks for Rooney "if" he moves to Chelsea...but what if he stays at United...Is there any evidence that Moyes would condem him to a CDM spot again ?...He could well turn out to be a great pick at 10.5 alongside RVP...who knows ?...only Moyes i suppose...

He is becoming a very fragile player in recent times, he needs to drink more milk and eat salad vegetables or something.

I know. I love the player but ignore the gash in his leg It's a fact he keeps picking up these niggling injuries lately. Injured now again.

Any nailed on norwich 4.0 defenders folks? Or any recommendations for 4.0 defenders apart from turner (cardiff) and parr (palace)

I know that they're only for bench fodder, but I'm staying well away from Palace and Hull options. Both teams look so poor, and for just .5 more you can actually get a decent option. I cant think of when I'd ever be confident playing a Palace or Hull defender.

I hear ya yossi, and i agree but im compromising a fair bit for the dgw. Ill go with eveyone else and back chester. Thanks eveyone for your responses. If this site charged by the hour i'd be in big trouble. Great community - appreciate all the advice over the past couple of weeks.

No problem mate, they're not fundamentally bad picks, a playing 4.0 defender never can be, I just think the respective teams are verging on terrible at the moment. Best of luck with the team buddy.

i wonder if current trend of more goals per game than was the case a few years ago will continue. i suspect it will, therefore i expect cleansheets to be relatively hard to predict. i think i'll go cheapie defenders all round

I might well go with a Che or at least Arsenal defender, alongside 4 of those. But the rest of my team does look better with the additional funds this creates.

    Migs/Davis

    Coleman/Mert/Connolly/Collins/Moxey

    Kagawa/Bale/Coutinho/Hazard/Colback

    Lukaku/Giroud/Anelka

£1.5m in the bank for GW2 bandwagon...

What's the first thing that comes into your head!?

Defence needs a upgrade, I'd put the 1.5m in the team and lose Hazard or Lukaku GW2 for whatever bandwagon comes along if you want.

Davis, Coleman, Kagawa, Colback, Lukaku, Anelka, all aren't guaranteed to start every game. Though Coleman and Lukaku could pay off imo.

I would drop kagawa down and upgrade a forward to a heavy hitter. To many uncertain on the team, I usually "try" to get off to a strong start just for the confidence boost and team value.

I just can't see him nailing down a spot. I hope I'm wrong - a 4.5m attacking midfielder is exactly what I need, but I'm not willing to risk it. Not when I'll barely field 11 players in week 3.
