Tottenham’s new recruits and the start of the Champions League group stages were among the hottest topics being discussed by the community over the international break. We also find out how FFS UEFA’s transfer window simulation game concluded and welcome aboard a new moderator to the Fantasy Football Scout team.

Hottest Topics

Tottenham have so many new arrivals following the close of the transfer window that it is hard to keep up with their likely starting XI. Luckily our resident video expert Brutus619 had his finger on the pause button to analyse attacking midfielder Erik Lamela’s displays and assess whether he is the real deal as a Fantasy prospect.

Robin Van Persie continues to divide the community, with one group of players set for glory, while the other bracing themselves for  disappointment. BigFatFrank has decided to give those wildcarders looking to shoehorn the Dutch striker into their team a step by step guide to creating the perfect RVP team. Meanwhile, 7 Shades of Smoke has ben debunking the popular “keep calm and captain RVP” mantra and wondering if it is nothing but a myth.

Elsewhere,Iain_90 ponders whether there’s any weight to the theory of “attacking coverage” across the most offensive teams or if it’s best just targeting certain individuals.

Bonus points and their sudden shine to defenders continues to dominate discussion. King Nemanja is so convinced that the recent glut of bonus points for defenders is no mere fluke that he is prepared to commit himself to a four at the back formation to ensure his team cashes in. For those wanting to follow his lead he’s come up with some great defensive line ups here.

The Champions League is almost here and in our discussion on the best options out there HeyDudes13 has some great budget options to consider  and Konig Luther’s lengthy list in this thread is also well worth looking at.

Worryingly for the community, international injuries have been mounting up this last week, with Liverpool right back Glen Johnson among those possibly destined for a lengthy stay in the physio room. Archie has been running the rule over the candidates who are likely to replace Johnson while he recovers.

Finally, Maxi’s top ten tips for mini-league success provided some useful, albeit sneaky and underhand, advice for winning a mini-league.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) game came to a finale during the international break with Norwich led by The Shadow being crowned TWS Champions. The rest of the top 5 was rounded off by PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham, Liverpool owned by 4vets, Arsenal guided by Zep and HVT‘s Aston Villa. FFS UEFA also tell us that places are still up for grabs in their FA Cup style game. If you are interested sign up here  by the deadline of 11:59pm BST, September 22. Those already involved in the FFS UEFA leagues and those who applied unsuccessfully to be a part of that competition have all been given an automatic space so do not need to apply.

It's more a case who's available for me.....
Both have 1 striker who you can count on (if fit in Studge's case)
After that L'pool only really have Coutinho for the next few weeks whos' misfrired so far..
Spurs have Lamela & Eriksen who are punts as we don't know whats going on.

I've gone with Soldado with a view to putting Stydge in as he may not play. I've dropped Coutinho and stayed away from Spurs MIDS until we see what happens

    Mignolet (guzan)
    Ivanovic Koscielny baines Coleman (garrido)
Lamela - coutinho - Ramsey (wanyama Barkley)
    Giroud - Sturridge - benteke (c)

    Pretty awesome right?

Are you an Everton fan? I think Baines and Coleman is probably overkill. If you downgraded Baines to Vidic that would free up some cash to upgrade your mid.

      - Redmond/Brady rotate for home games
      - Whittaker isn't nailed but very attacking and good value at 4.2
      - Moses is a punt but provides Liverpool coverage on a good set of fixtures / Rodgers likes him
      - Fer will be a great player but maybe not for FPL / will provide the odd goal from set pieces

Have a feeling Hughton will utilise Pilkington away and Redmond at home, especially for the tougher away games. Pilkington is alot better defensively but Redmond supplies a raw-spark which you rarely see in an English player.

Redmond will develop into a cleverer player than Lennon. Time will tell ofcourse but I believe Redmond will start to add better decision making, a flaw that has ultimately always been in Lennon's game.

In fact each generation is unique in its own right ie 60s/70s/80s it's basically called eveloution

Allows you to cover the bigger teams for their easiest fixtures. Perfect example no united attacking players for this weekend. Giroud Ozil and Walcott are all probably going to score well this season, but with all three your gonna have to rely on them to score big every week. Spreading coverage across the bigger teams allows you to reap the rewards of any big scoring games. Thats how I see it anyway.

This kind of sums it up, but only works when the player is nailed-on and has a goal involvement of over 1/3 of the team's goals.

Coverage only plays a small part in my player selection personally

Disagree. If you're talking about captaincy then yes, it can be damaging not to have someone like rvp this weekend. The rest of the time, I don't see why it is necessary for your team to be consistent week to week. I rather 75-45 over two weeks than 60-59

Currently got a template WC team:

    Migs ?
    Vidic Walker Kos Coleman Chester
    Walcott Lampard Brady ? ?
    Sturr Sold Giroud

    Could go
    A) Ben Arfa, Hernandez, Marshall
    B) Michu, JWP, 4.0 GK

    A) would mean benching two of Brady/Coleman/Hernandez/HBA each week, giving me a headache in who to bench, with inevitable pts on the bench. BUT it means if there is a surprise injury (e.g Sturridge) I would have a quality player to come in.

    B) would be benching two of Brady/JWP/Coleman which is less cash, but worse subs to come off the bench if needed. Also think JWP will get rotated. And no back up if Migs gets injured/sent off.

    So, A or B?

just read the thoughts of a dutchman on eriksen on some other forum.:

"Ajax fans in Holland are always impressed by the kid, can’t say I am. But I get the hype in England, they saw him play one of his best games against England.

Overall he was really mediocre last season. This season he had a good start. However, I don’t consider the Dutch competition to be that of a high level. Wondering if he can cope, he has talent but it never really comes out. In my opinion he’s overrated. But maybe overrated is good enough for Spurs."

make of it what you will...

Ajax fans tend to get excited about one their youth players because of the "we saw him before he was big" mentality. Flashes of genius but gives the ball away alot. Think spurs have bought him as a playing prospect and will hope he improves quickly.

Yesterday someone posted a power defence. Baines, etc. Then one of the regulars said there were better and cheaper alternatives.

    Who are these alternatives?

think it was vidic, vert, baines, ivan and komp
assuming they mean cheaper in same team
they said not really vidic, but would guess, walker, coleman, terry? and zab
