Sergio Aguero’s calf injury in the 6-3 win over Arsenal has served up a potential major setback for thousands of Fantasy managers. With Manuel Pellegrini offering us little insight into the severity of the injury and a scan imminent, we can only wait on news from the Etihad. However, resident Fantasy Football Scout physio, Facer, has made a timely return to offer his early view. Analysing the incident involved and Aguero’s reaction and movement, here’s Facer’s detailed report and his take on the likely prognosis.

The incident occurred barely a minute into the second half and gives a clear indication of the mechanism of injury. Playing a one-two with David Silva, Sergio Aguero receives the ball and with one touch plays it back into the path of Silva. Almost immediately Aguero starts to limp and, several seconds later, in an attempt to take the pressure from the injury, falls on to his back. At first glance the incident looked fairly innocuous, but with closer inspection, we see that the former Atletico man didn’t quite have the time to position himself correctly and improvises a one-touch pass into Silva’s run with a subtly excessive rotation at the right hip. This is significant because the contracting Gluteal muscles produce a rotatory force at the hip and, with the studs of Aguero’s right boot planted firmly in the ground, severely restricting movement at the hip and ankles, this force had nowhere to go, resulting in a tear to one of the calf muscles.

As Aguero is lying on the ground his demeanour is interesting. He does not appear to be in a great deal of pain and he is not reaching for the injury. In terms of severity, these are positive signs. Suffering a severe calf strain is like being shot in the back of the leg and Aguero would have hit the ground immediately and would need to have been stretchered off. We then see the Argentine hobble from the field. It is worth noting that, although exhibiting severely restricted movement at the right ankle, Aguero is able to partially weight bear on the injured limb, giving us a further clue as to the severity and likely duration of any absence. Similarly, as Aguero is led from the field, we can observe him palpating the back of his calf towards the β€˜belly’ of the Gastrocnemius, suggesting a tear to the meat of the muscle rather than attachments, which heals more quickly. In summary, I would suggest that Aguero has suffered a grade 1-2 calf strain, which would see him sidelined for a minimum of 10 days, but more likely 2-3 weeks. Sadly for his owners, that would see Aguero miss at least the next three league outings.

A Scout Disclaimer: While Facer offers an expert’s view of such injuries, with just a remote assessment to go on, the opinions expressed here should not be taken as fact or acted on with any degree of certainty.

So glad I've avoided coming on here today. Had a brief browse of the comments and they are either

        A) Any news on Kun? (if there was it would be on the Scout Tweets)
        B) Is Kun gonna drop and so I lose selling value? (It's not hard maths....)
        C) Negredo, Lukaku or Rooney?
        D) Oh God how on earth do I get Walcott in my team?

            A) doesn't have an answer, B) is simple maths and the other 2 depend on who you think will do better.

FWIW, I'd go Rooney unless you really want Walcott in which case you probably need to get Negredo/Lukaku for the funds.

        Please confirm if corect, thx.

Aguero value: PP 11.5 CP 12.5 SP 12
if he drops tonite to CP 12.4, Does that mean my SP remains at 12 or drops to 11.9?

        thinking pp11.5 + cp 12.4 = 23.9 / 2 = 11.95
cant remeber if FPL rounds the 11.95 to 12 or it would drop to 11.9 the SP?? thx

        KNEEJERK ALERT!

I did Aguero, Barkley and Terry to Lukaku, Yaya, Turner (norwich, good fix)....

HAD TO take an 8 pt hit to get Lukaku as already had 3 EVE... but I think it will pay off. Could have got Negredo but unknown quantity I think...

Will YAYA play further forward and be on pens with KUN out?

He is on pens. Whether he'll play further forward I think depends on Jovetic's fitness. If he's ready I think he'll start with Negredo, if not they might play with one striker and Yaya might be pushed up, but they could just as easily start with Silva in the hole and Navas/Milner on the right for instance.

I did Aguero to Rooney. This year perhaps more than before, I find myself trying to stay ahead of price jumps/decreases. Not sure if it's the best tactic, but to some degree, I think it's almost a necessary evil.

Season after season, I agree less with this. There are no shortages at any position of talent value. There are moneyball moves to make all the time.

I do agree, though, that having a budget to throw around does make the decisions easier, and the options more appealing. Sometimes budget can make a better team, but not always.

That said, I also sold Aguero for Rooney. I'm no zen master, but with Rooney's fixtures, I don't see it as a great gamble.

Just wondering. I know the definite answer is 'only Moyes knows',
but after MU today's performance, you guys reckon Rooney gonna start deeper from now on?

The difference in terms of Rooney's positioning and thus his threat going forward is very much noticeable especially when you do a comparison tool between this week and previous gameweeks.

And that translate to a better overall team performance by United where finally they have someone who can dictate the tempo from midfield.

So what do you think? Certainly this issue will be a major, if not the decisive, factor in to whether bringing Rooney in to replace Aguero.

We can't keep playing Rooney deep as we will need his firepower up front until Welbeck scores regularly, Chicha gets the nod and RvP comes back.

But RVP is out for the month, so I reckon the Rooney Welbeck partnership is nailed on at least for the short term?

Unless Moyes starts Kagawa and Rooney up front.

very hard to say. but when is carrick back? that'll probably be the main factor. also fletcher in the mix also now. i'd expect rooney to be back up front sooner rather than later. wellbeck, despite his 2 goals today, just isn't a natural goalscorer, and won't be enough for utd over the short to medium term (imo).

Carrick is gonna be out for a while and Fletcher is just back from a long term injury so he will be eased in and not gonna have an immediate grand performance.

So you reckon despite this Rooney gonna start up front?

I still don't understand why Moyes doesn't wanna start Kagawa more often.

No playmaker, Carrick out, RVP out, Rooney found his goalscoring boots are the perfect recipe for Kagawa to shine

          I bought Aguero at 11.4m.

          He is now 12.5m

So his price increased by 1.1m while I had him.

          As I only actually gain 50% of that (1.1 / 2), I gained 0.55, 0.5m rounded down...

His fall tonight will not reduce my selling price at all 😎

It's not 0.1 though TM, if you were planning say an 8pt hit and all the six players involved will rise or fropm that's a .6 swing even if they only rise/fall once which is unlikely. In theory there could be a 1.8m swing for three players

yeah..with all other captains failed this gw, 44 points from suarez alone is a big differential..by next gw,everyone will definitely captain him
