Strikers preoccupied the community this week, with replacements for the injured Sergio Aguero being sought and Fantasy managers wondering if Luis Suarez would go on to make Fantasy Football history. Elsewhere, we examine how those early kick-off myths were dispelled once and for all and take time to catch up with the latest goings-on in our community tournaments.

The Hottest Topics

Sergio Aguero’s calf injury and subsequent month-long lay off shook up the community’s frontlines this week. As we hurriedly looked to replace the Manchester City striker, Nice To Finally Michu was on hand to weigh up the replacements.

The Sarjeant was also looking at Aguero replacements, but instead focusing on some key differential options. Gary Hooper and Dimitar Berbatov were among those he was eyeing up. In RonH’s post, Negredo emerged as the ready-made replacement for Aguero. Ronh rolled out statistics and fixture analysis to construct a convincing case, portraying the Spaniard as the clear standout option.

City’s midfield assets the focus of Your Mum’s Athletic‘s hot topic. He examined the merits of Yaya Toure and David Silva, with the Ivory Coast international having the edge, based on his analysis.

Luis Suarez was not put forward as a replacement for Aguero, mainly because of the assumption that he’s already a mainstay in our lineups. The Uruguyan continues to look unstoppable and, given that most will be captaining him for the foreseeable future, we asked how Fantasy managers can counter the Suarez effect. Will was amongst those to chip in, citing investment in midfield with a cheaper defence as a potential route of exploration.

The 3rd Turd is so impressed with Suarez’s displays that he even believes he will become the first Fantasy Premier League player to breach the 300 points barrier. His trip down memory lane looking back on the previous season’s top points scorers proved one of the most popular posts this week.

Finally, our watchlist guru, Green Windmill, found some time to finally prove that the results of the early kick-offs are no different to those at other times. Of course, we knew that all along but that won’t stop us letting the live cameras have their say when it comes to our transfers.

The Community Tournaments

Breaching the top 100,000 seemed like an impossible dream at the start of the season for those taking part in HeelsOverHead’s Worst to First 2 Million Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks. However, Bales of Fury has already achieved that landmark feat, and was sitting pretty with a rank of 72,143 going into Gameweek 17. Seven teams are in the top 250,000 and in poll position to mirror his achievement.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing league, 35 managers departed during Gameweek 16, leaving 411 to fight another day. To join TM’s upcoming midseason leagues, click here.

Those leading In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues are Evs, Bootsy, Athletico Timbo, Crouch Potato, Wslnpt and Koneheads. Tony Hibbert is the favourite to lift Tommy’s AT50Q competition trophy after going into Gameweek 17 with an overall rank of 570.

    My current team:

    Howard (Boruc)
    Coleman Shaw Mertesacker (Whittaker Moxey)
    Ramsey Hazard Januzaj Yaya (Johnson)
    Lukaku Rooney Suarez

Thinking of shipping out Suarez for the next two GW and bringing in Adebayor.

    Suarez: mci, che
    Adebayor: WBA, STK

Is it worth the gamble that Liverpool struggle in two very difficult away games and Adebayor flourishes in two semi-easy home games?

Everton is also playing two home games, and United have an easy couple games too, otherwise I'd consider swapping out one of them.

    Decisions, decisions.

    Thanks for your input.

I figured it might be, I'm just sad to be missing out on valuable differential points. Adebayor's going to score in almost every game from here til the end of the season. It'd be a shame not to clean up on that.

        No Association Bergkamp....

I only have 0.6 in the bank, so can't really upgrade my bench.

The only upgrade I can think of is the midfielder Johnson who doesn't play.

Maybe bring in Oviedo.. I don't really see another option.

      Just another: Don't do it!

Suarez isn't only a permanent player for any roster; he might be a perma-captain.

It's far too risky to not have him on your roster; especially with how everyone else has caught on and will be playing him.

24 points list to my poor decision making the last two weeks. Add in additional transfers of 12 points and the poor transfer of Amalfitano, keeping Clyne and Bennett and I've now dropped to 49k overall from top 6k.

Partly explained by travelling to China, US, Sweden and Vienna in last four weeks and subsequent jet lag and general lack of a regular sleeping pattern but even so upset with the way it has gone.

Managed to bag 3 OGs in this period, Skrtel two, Ovei one.

    Can it get any worse?

I thought I had two options for my (C) this week (Suarez vs Walcott) but, due to my own comfort zone, it's always going to be Suarez.

If I go Suarez(C) and he gets 4pts and Walcott bags a goal/assist, I'll think: "Oh, I wish I'd had the balls to take a cheeky Theo punt" but I can happily live with that points "loss".

However, if I go for Walcoot(C) and he grabs 4pts and Suarez bags a goal/assist, I'll think: "You stupid idiot. Why did I ever doubt him?" and I'll be pissed off at the points loss.

    That is all.

    Hi All

Just noting how difficult it's proving to move up the league. I don't think I've ever been on such a strong run but still I am only in the top 300000.

I have to say that it's noticeable more than ever how generic the team selections are, I mean why ask 'please rate my team' when they are near as damn it all the same anyway.

Hopefully a few more players will start creeping into the mix.

13 shots on target only 4 have been saved. 30 shots 13 on target. Last season 23 on target and 7 goals, 70 shots in that span. so from 10 shots per goal to 3 shots per goal. 300% improvement in conversion rate. While that can be explained a bit by the pens, still an extreme number. And while Ramsays improvement can be explained by him being young and improving after that horror injury, Yaya makes no sense

Yaya is playing in a completely different position to years gone by. Surely you've all actually read the scout report on him earlier this year and seen the heat maps. It's as simple as saying, "last year he did X and Y so this year he should do the same"...leave him out at your perril.

Disclaimer: I have Yaya and Ramsey and currently sitting in the top1k.

Makes no difference, yaya is currently converting chances better than any striker in europe, and better than Messi in his record breaking year. If im not mistaken there has never been anyone scoring over 5 goals with that good of a conversion rate in the history of modern football

Agreed on Southampton's defence but Ade did look really up for it. Running and everything.

He is a top drawer player when he can be bothered and with three cracking home fixtures in the next 4, it could be a real purple patch for him. Linked up well with Soldado too, so if he finds his shooting boots, there could be plenty of assists too.

he is, but im still not convinced that Spurs as a whole have turned a corner. Mostly due to the look of the cup game. Those fixtures though look great I cant say I am not tempted myself. I actually would have gone for ade last week, but I was unsure which Spurs forwards were nailed on, and did not have balls to risk it

Repost from the previous page. (Thanks to TW for all the help by the way. 🙂 ) I have narrowed it down to two ways to get Walcott in. Here's my team:

    Mignolet,
    Koscielny*, Coleman, Clyne*,
    Hazard, Silva, Ramsey, Morrison,
    Suarez, Rooney, Lukaku.

    Daniels, Chico, Chester, Brady*.

1 FT, £1.2m in the bank

    A) Rooney -> Remy, Brady -> Walcott for a 4 pt. hit (I know this sounds absolutely crazy but it's one of the only ways to get Walcott in. Can't get Negredo instead of Remy. £1.4m short. 🙁 )

    B) Mignolet -> Speroni, Ramsey -> Walcott for -4

Basically I have to sell one of Rooney or Ramsey to get Wally in. Which one do I sell?

I've just done the exact same transfer of Mig >> Krul, and I think this is my best way of cashing in on Newcastle's clean sheets. With someone like Williamson, I just know I'd play him in those straightforward games where they concede like NOR/WBA and bench him for the unexpected cleanies against Man Utd and Chelsea.

Warning: we'll be missing Wes Brown for 3 games, and he's been a massive part of our defensive resurgence. Possibly O'Shea as well, seemed to have a niggle at end of the last game.

Also a word of warning for those looking at Mannone long-term - although I think he'd continue to be picked ahead of Westwood when the latter returns from injury, we've been repeatedly linked with Julio Cesar over the last few weeks.
