Our coverage of the official UEFA Fantasy Champions League game returns again as the deadline for the second round of the round of 16 edges ever closer. With the eight matches spread out over tonight, tomorrow and next midweek, the Matchday gives us four potential captaincy options to choose from but with the likes of PSG and Real Madrid both as good as through after huge first leg wins, our tactical approach could be a little different this time around:

Tuesday March 11
Thomas Muller – the Bayern forward is owned by less than 3% of Fantasy managers ahead of this evening’s home encounter with Arsenal. Muller warmed up for the Gunners visit by bagging two goals and an assist in a weekend rout of Wolfsburg and, priced at 11.0, looks a real captaincy contender as the holders looks to seal their progress into the quarter-finals.

Raul Garcia – available for just 7.0, the midfielder is Atletico’s top scoring player in this term’s competition. Whilst Diego Costa garners most of the Fantasy attention, the 8%-owned Garcia has notched three goals and a pair of assists and his attacking contribution could be key as Diego Simeone’s side look to defend a 1-0 advantage over Milan in front of their own fans.

Wednesday March 12
Samir Nasri – Man City head to Barcelona 2-0 down from the first leg and need to go on the attack to stand any chance of progressing. Available for just 6.5, Nasri has already served up a goal and four assists in the group stages and rolls up to the Nou Camp in decent form, having netted twice since returning from a knee injury last month. Given that the Spanish side have now lost two of their last three league games, Manuel Pellegrini’s side will fancy their chances of springing a surprise.

Thiago Motta – the PSG midfielder will set you back just 5.5 for a home clash with Leverkusen. Motta has racked up a couple of goals and three assists in the group stages and currently sits on 37 points; just four off the top of the midfield standings so far. With a 4-0 lead from the first leg, there’s a threat of rest and rotation for the French side, though Motta’s game time looks assured under Laurent Blanc.

Tuesday March 18
Samuel Eto’o – Chelsea’s match with Galatasaray is finely balanced after a 1-1 draw in Turkey last time around. With Fernando Torres likely to be sidelined due to a groin problem, Eto’o seems set to get the nod as Jose Mourinho looks to eliminate Didier Drogba and co – the Cameroon international has been in fine form in front of his own fans and, priced at 9.0 with an ownership of 2%, is a real captaincy differential for the third night’s action.

Jese Rodriguez – with Real Madrid already 5-0 up from the first leg win at Schalke, the threat of rest and rotation hangs heavy over Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Given that they have a vital league game against Barcelona just five days later, we could well see their main assets warm the bench – Rodriguez comes in at just 6.5 and has caught the eye for the La Liga leaders, with five goals and four assists from four domestic starts.

Wednesday March 18
Wayne Rooney – a goal and assist against West Brom on Saturday hinted at a return to form for the United frontman. With Robin Van Persie toiling up top and Juan Mata ineligible to appear in the Champions League, Rooney (10.5) could be David Moyes’ main hope of turning around a 2-0 first leg deficit against Olympiacos next week. From a Fantasy perspective, the potential non-appearance of Ronaldo the night before means many will be looking to the Wednesday matches for a captain to fall back on and United have everything to play for, suggesting Moyes will field his strongest side.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – with Dortmund already 4-2 up from the first leg in Zenit, changes could be on the cards for Jurgen Klopp’s side. If you reckon United will struggle to overcome Olympiacos and instead fancy a differential option for the final night of the round, the Gabon international may be one to consider. With Robert Lewandowski currently sidelined through injury, the 8.5-priced Aubameyang could be set to lead the line as he looks to maintain the form that has harvested 13 goals in 18 Bundesliga starts so far.

Who should I play this week?

    a) Sissoko away at Fulham
    b) Nolan away at Stoke

That's what I was thinking originally, but after looking at the stats tables Sissoko is actually pretty impressive. I think Fulham's defensive are more leaky than Stoke, so I am leaning toward Sissoko now.

Which of these would be the best USL transfer this week?

    A. Toprak Campbell

    B. Lucas > Matuidi/Motta(Which one?)

    c. Costa > Eto'o/Aubemeyang(Which one?)

Matuidi is rested. I have Lucas and he is good value if he plays (not sure about whether he will though). I also have Aubemeyang and he is also is not a definite starter. I would definitely say keep Costa. Probably Toprak who won't get many points to a punt on Campbell is the best in the bunch..

I'd go with A. Seems lots of people are looking at Zab, but if you don't already have an Everton defender, I'd rather go with Coleman or Baines if you can.

A would be my Wc team , I have Coleman already.
I'm trying to work out does my current squad / or a gw Wc team team give me more points ,
A and b are the differances - it's all about points now.

Your only DGW player in the B is Mata. A is a clear winner, but I'd go with Sissoko or Nolan over Sterling, especially if you will have Sturridge and Suarez.

    Putting it out there.

Reckon Lukaku could be a better selection in coming weeks than Aguero.

Very good next fixtures, including an enticing double. Proved his fitness after injury with a couple of goals, and is fresh with renewed hunger after a rest. Is also Everton's most likely scorer.

Aguero, will he retain his fitness, is he match sharp, are City on a nosedive of form, they have tougher fixtures next 3 gameweeks.

I am tempted to carry the risk and go for Lukaku for now, despite having funds for Aguero.

    Opinions welcome! 😀

Take all the Lukaku arguments then add that he doesn't score in easy fixtures and lacks supply with Mirallas on the pitch. Dampen down the risks on Aguero and highlight his points per minutes. Easy really.

Lukaku isn't a huge goal scorer, City's nosedive in form coincides perfectly with Aguero being out injured, when he plays City are considerately stronger. He's fit enough to be back playing matches so I reckon he'll play against Hull. Much better goal scorer too.

The only think Lukaku has is less injury worries but that's it.

If you'd rather Lukaku because of money then go for it but don't try to convince yourself that he'll score better. Just get him because you'd rather have more money, then you won't be disappointed if/when Aguero outscores him.

I agree. It's just long term with City fighting for the title and another 2 doubles I know I'll want Aguero at some point and his rocketing price will make it hard to fit him in if I don't move now. There's also every possibility that he'll explode right out of the gate.

Agree with that side of it as well. I won't be able to get Aguero to fit in the team I want after he goes up another 0.1

However, he hasn't shown any form or guarantee of his fitness after this injury, whereas Lukaku has, and also has better fixtures, so for that reason I'm reluctant to settle for Aguero

Also reluctant to put a player in just because everyone else is and so the price is rising. Circumstances will be different in my team in a few weeks, no doubt, I'll still be able to find that 0.1 or 0.4 should needs be

Probably a prudent move. I think Aguero's upside is a bit higher so he's worth the gamble for me. I may bring Lukaku in as well next week.

            True, true. Some good points.

There's no way Lukaku comes near Aguero when both are on form

Will Aguero show that form in coming weeks? That's a gamble in itself. He's not completed a league game since Dec 7th. Even the best players get rusty.

Yes Mata, we all know you're better playing CAM. Just ask Kagawa and Januzaj.

It is the same reason most people captain suarez almost every gameweek
      They both have good reputation

well,I've heard around here it's not that smart to bring Aguero even a day before DGW31.
a day later,he's the most voted player for C THIS WEEKEND.
      what a hell?!

Looks like I'll have to get rid of Hazard although just for the DGW

Would get him back in 32. Sod value!

Same here......Hazard out for the DGW and then Mata > Hazard for GW32.

Not worried about value one bit now. It's what we saved all season for. To spend freely now....

      I wouldnt
It is the same situation like Yaya and Silva

We dont expect Yaya and gerrard to get that much points
We cant compare silva and sterling very different

You lost me - I'd rather have Yaya than Silva and rather have Gerrard than Sterling.

Otherwise, have no idea what you are saying! 🙂

          I meant to say
I always expected that Yaya will get less points than silva but it is the other way round

          For Gerrard and sterling
I think sterling is a more risky but explosive option
Gerrard scores most of the goals on pens
That is why I dont like getting gerrard
Maybe it is only me I dont like hoping for penalties rather I would like a goal from open play

      FLP stands for;)

Suarez is more essential because most teams in FPL have him and he gets points consistently
plus he hasnt been injured the whole year
