Fallen stars in both the Premier League and Fantasy football proved a key topic of debate this week as the community mulled over another update to our manager’s Hall of Fame, the status of Sergio Aguero’s precarious hamstring and the painful demise of Fernando Torres. As the season enters its final Gameweeks, the community also cast an eye back to past glories and mistakes from this term, as well as dreaming of an improved season in 2014/15.

We revisit all these key discussions and also find time to catch up with our community tournaments, to find one particular community member beaming with pride after winning a special and much-coveted beverage-based accolade.

The Hottest Topics

Manuel Pellegrini’s press conference this week offered a glimmer of hope that City’s injury prone striker Sergio Aguero will be fit to start both fixtures in double Gameweek 34. But our discussion on his fitness showed widespread concern about the Argentine’s pitch time, from, among others, Champ and Keith. Alberto Tomba is also a worried man; in his thread, entitled Forget Aguero, he argues the community might be better served looking elsewhere to complete their three-pronged attack. The Argentine was a major ingredient of the week’s chatter, with A Defender’s Nightmare, on hand to offer a definitive guide to the subject matter, answering the key questions around Aguero’s game time and effect on his team-mates’ positions and point scoring potential.

With a possible return on the cards, Aguero was among a host of players to feature in our Best Double Gameweek 34 team discussion. Dip in to get some views on the key players to target and the assumed sweet spot when it comes to the Gameweek 34 roster.

With so many injuries in recent seasons, is there a possibility that Aguero’s star will wane permanently? One prolific Premier League striker has already suffered that particular fate: Fernando Torres was dropped in favour of a false nine by Jose Mourinho for the Champions League clash with Paris St Germain this week. Boc610 was among those lamenting the decline of this once-great goal scoring talent.

Fallen stars of the Fantasy Football variety emerged from the discussion surrounding the latest update in our Hall of Fame. Mark, Granville and Evs were among the Fantasy managers taking a tumble in this latest refresh. Their tough season prompted Christina to look at some other declining figures, with former Hall of Fame leader Ulrik Nuylund and Jafalad among those featured in his analysis.

The consistent returns from the early season bandwagons has often been cited as one of the key ingredients of this season and perhaps a factor in some established Fantasy managers’ struggling seasons. Aaron Ramsey and Yaya Toure have been major bandwagons who sustained form when fit, with Asqushypotato asking which other high scoring players the community missed and lived to regret. Among those to respond was Applebonkers, who has swerved Adam Lallana’s points and Loco Abreu who has sidestepped Seamus Coleman’s goal scoring hauls.

It’s not just Fantasy managers who mistime their transfer dealings. Demel’s’s hot topic this week focused on the worst buys in the Premier League this season, with Fulham’s Kostas Mitroglou and Tottenham’s Erik Lamela among the travesties dug up for all to see.

Demi, in contrast, was in a more positive mood and sparked this discussion about the very best buys from the campaign. Top of his list was Manchester City’s midfielder Fernandinho, who has brought out the best in his teammates, seemingly playing a major role in Yaya Toure’s extraordinary transformation into a true heavy-hitting Fantasy asset.

John Terry’s Dog was also keen to recall some success stories, quizzing the community on their best Fantasy Premier League moments. Athletico Timbo’s acquisition of Shola Ameobi just before he scored an extremely rare hat-trick just had to be amongst the pick of the tales on show.

Whilst we fondly reminisced , the community also looked ahead to 2014/15 to assess how the summer transfer activity could improve the array of choices on our player lists. A decent Chelsea striker was top of many of our wishlists – a factor that would surely offer another big alternative up top, whilst potentially shaking up the output of the Blues’ midfield assets.

Finally, in case you missed it, Mark popped in on Thursday to give us an update on plans for the ScoutCast. Check out the midweek Hot Topic for some clues on the new “live and interactive” direction – we’ll have more on this later this week.

The Community Tournaments

In the Worst to First- 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks, first placed Teltzham Hotspurs now sits alone in the top 10,000, after second ranked Bales of Fury slipped to 10,470th after Gameweek 32.

The winner of Gameweek 32’s Scout Pick Challenge, which is loosely based on our own Scout Picks, created by @ocprodigy, was Djberil with an impressive 74 points.

In Torres Magic’ss leagues this week, 14 were eliminated from his Last Man Standing ladder, leaving 25 to fight another day. His Millionaire Club ended this week when the final five managers all failing to qualify. Mayanyi comfortably leads his mid-season leagues. Triggerlips vs Urinal is the battle of the regulars in his knockout tournaments, where 32 remain.

The Fantasy Football Scout contributors and moderators league saw Spencer cling on to first place after Gameweek 32, albeit with a far slender lead of just four points.

Gameweek 32 saw the conclusion of FFS UEFA’s Champions League Round of 16. The victorious octet were Dogba, Billy Ketsu, TW, Shipstontrev, Beric, Ajay, ENR and Isacki. In FFS UEFA’s Europa League the second leg of ties in the Round of 16 take place during Gameweek 33. Full details here.

Finally, we are delighted to congratulate Declan on winning the Long and Winding Road’s coveted Tea Cup tournament. He beat Chrissy Waddle in the final and wins a range of tea-making goodies.

Man Arsenal fixtures are very good until the end of the season. Wenger is such an idiot....it was theirs to lose and they lost it.

When Feo/Ramsey/Wilshere went down, all he could muster at the window was sweet Feck all.

k I need to win my ML. Leader has like 60 point lead and has a solid team with all the usual Hazard, Yaya, Gerrard Dzeko, Zab, Coleman, Flanagan, Luka, Suarez. Now I doubt he'll swap Dzeko to Aguero so theres my diff but I was wondering if anyone would get rid of Suarez here and have a front line of Aguero, Lambert and Luka?

Getting rid of Suarez is risky but I don't think I'll be able to make up enough diffs to give me a good shot if I just keep on. Currently ranked around 32k and I'll prob need 8k+ to beat him. Thoughts?

That won't give you a good chance thou.

You want a differential but in doing so you'd give him Suarez as a differential?

It wouldn't be for me. 60pts is nothing.

Sound options, I'm partial to the Zab -> Baines choice, even if it means losing Hazard..

In any case it's good that you can get in Aguero without taking too many hits / breaking your team, which is not something most ppl can say. Good luck!

True, but I worry about Lallana's ownership (41%) against a leaky cardiff.. Could easily be 10-15 points there, and gerrard will likely end up with 2pts and a two game ban..

It's the city sunderland game I'd be terrified of if i didnt have aguero/dzeko.

Scenario A : City lose to liverpool, they're super p**sed and take it out on poor sunderland.

Scenario B : City win against pool, they're all fired up and .... take it out on poor sunderland.

If you decide to go for lambert, invest that money you save into a nice fat couch to hide behind for the City v Sunderland game 😛

lol yeah. The problem with chasing is you start to look at diffs to much and end up missing out on the easy/obv points. Think I'll try a few diff cap options rather than what I had in mind.

If he wants to he'll be there. The board know they'll be hard pressed to find someone who will operate in their best interests the way Arsen did. Ridic what he did while making money in the transfer market. What elite manager will come if they are not given good money to spend?

It's probably still 50-50. Depends on if Arsenal get CL next season and who they can get to fill in Wenger's boots.

For all we know, Arsene might yet again win the Wenger Cup (and possibly even the FA Cup)

Considering him too. One game of goal/assist beats playing 2 games of 2-pointers.

so now going a bit mad and considering getting Coleman + Puncheon + Aguero for Sturridge and either:

    a) Zaba + Gerrard

    or

    b) Ivan + Nasri

    hmmmm

If you have 3 city already, skip on aguero I think. This DGW come a bit too soon for him

when u say 3 city are you assuming Dzeko is 1 of them? If I had Dzeko now I would bother with Aguero but I don't think Zab carries the same upside Aguero/Dzeko do in a DGW

I doubt aguero will get much more than 90mins across the 2 games and 1 away to Liverpool. He is not essential this week IMO. I'm getting him but only because I can do a single FT swap for Sturridge and I will want him going forward.

Having said that if you really want to differentiate for your mini league there are few more explosive options so go for it and captain him. I don't think it's the percentage play, however as you have used 2ft / 8 pts to get a maximum of only one extra DGW player, assuming you swap zaba for someone like Dann

its not the % play based on his injury record and recent min factor but his upside is too high if somehow he does start both games and when ur chasing you don't often get chances like this. I could bring him, Punch and Baines in for -4.

    Wise people of DZ ..

Didn't see the Everton game last night, have 2 FTs this week with 5.4 ITB.

I planned to do Ryan Bennett and Sturridge -> Coleman and Aguero for free.

I can also change the first transfer to Mutch to Mirallas and play 3-4-3 instead of 4-3-3 (Ivan plays in both cases)

In case I take a -4 for Mutch to Puncheon, I can play Puncheon and bench Ivan. Not convinced thats worth a -4 though

thoughts? It's primarily Coleman vs Mirallas (I own Baines already), and either would be in team only for GW34 and GW35, ship em after

if you own Baines I'd get Mir even if he's not truely nailed on. Everton fixtures turn ugo after the double so you don't really wanna be stuck with double defense at that point. Don't think Punch is worth the -4. If he didn't get a haul this week would you even be looking at him?

I'm definitely not a 'wise person of DZ', but I'll take a stab at it anyway..

I think your original plan is great if Kun is passed fit, especially with coleman being owned by over 70% in top 10k. A goal/assist/baps from him could bury you, although you have Baines to cover the CS.

Also, if you just got Mutch in the last 2 weeks or so, maybe you should hold on to him and give him a run in your team before transferring out..

Gonna wait until Friday to do this, after the last debacle with Sergio, but what does everybody think: Demichellis and Sturridge out / Scott Dann and Aguero in for no hits...Would give me Yaya, Silva and Aguero going into the DGW.

Yeh in an ideal world would love to keep Demi, but can't have four. Think Liverpool will get 1-2 goals that game so it really only makes him worth it for the one match.
Having said all this Aguero could get injured in 5 mins and I will be devastated...Think I have brought him in 4-5 times already this season. Addicted to Aguero!

Definitely getting twitchy now regarding the DGW. Have three Eve and three City, Yaya nasri dzeko coleman baines and lukaku. Sideways move Dzeko to aguero? Boruc or Adrian to Speroni or Mannone for 4pt hit?

Happy with my team and rank but itching to do some moves!!!

    Boruc
    Baines. Coleman. Ivano
    Haz. Yaya. Lallana. Nasri

Bit of a gamble not going without a fit Agüero imo.

Even though he played only 75 minutes in GW22-23 upon his return from injury, he still racked up 14 points. Not saying he's going to be in a similar touch, but I wouldn't be surprised if City have saved him up for the run-in. Liverpool game is pretty much everything to play for.

It's a gamble either way which is what makes it interesting. He cannot be match fit after this long out.

My view is get him if you have an easy swap but don't restructure your team for multiple hits this week

        That's probably a fair assessment.

I can't afford Agüero even with 2 FTs, not unless I want to get rid of Hazaar. So it's a big call this week for me, I suspect like most of us.

Aguero is like the saviour of the chasing pack in fpl. Most who have Dzeko wont make the move and thats quite a good chunk of players. He will 100% start the pool game as that is the biggest game of the season to date. I fear he might not be ready to start 2 games within 3 days so could end up being benched for the fixture you'd really want him for. That being said, AGUEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I dunno. If Pelle really wants to get Kun match fit for the run in, I can see him starting both. Probably taken off after 60 mins in both. Pretty similar to his last return from injury.

Will be playing Coleman, Ward and Ivan otherwise. With Baines in, will be playing Coleman, Ward, Baines, leaving Ivan as 1st sub. Will have 3 City players already.
