Martin Skrtel notches once again and David Silva’s form continues as Liverpool and City serve up a five-goal Anfield thriller. Jordan Henderson earns a three-match ban, whilst Yaya Toure and Daniel Sturridge both limp off with groin and hamstring problems as Fantasy managers await further news. Demba Ba keeps Chelsea’s bid on course with the only goal of the game at Swansea and Hull prepare for a Wembley date after getting the better of Sheffield United:

Yaya Worry for City
After recovering from a knock picked up against Southampton last weekend, the Ivorian lasted only 19 minutes before limping off with a thigh problem in yesterday’s defeat. Toure’s possible absence from Wednesday’s clash with Sunderland would leave his owners with a single point for his pair of fixtures – a potentially significant scenario in many mini-leagues, given that plenty chose to hand him the armband after he delivered a 31-point return in City’s previous double Gameweek. Any spell on the sidelines would have a major knock-on effect across the Fantasy games – Toure is owned by 47% of FPL managers right now and with the injured Eden Hazard still sitting in 30% of teams, the midfield template could be ripped up over the last few games. After the game, Manuel Pellegrini admitted it will be ”difficult” for Toure to make Wednesday’s game against Sunderland, with the midfielder set for tests later today.

Silva Dazzles in Spite of Defeat
With Manuel Pellegrini retaining a 4-2-3-1 formation, the little Spaniard continued in his role in “the hole” behind a lone forward. Silva arrived at Anfield on the back of two goals and a trio of assists in his previous five appearances and served up yet another attacking display, with a goal, assist and couple of bonus points delivered in the 3-2 defeat. Sitting in just 12% of teams, he seems an ideal alternative if Toure is ruled out for City’s run-in; home games against West Brom and West Ham allied with a trip to Palace and double Gameweek 37 against Everton and Sunderland, Silva could be in line for a major bandwagon.

Skrtel in the Goals Again
Whilst the likes of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard picked up an assist apiece in yesterday’s 3-2 thriller, the centre-half notched his seventh goal of the season as Liverpool moved seven points clear of their opponents. Skrtel’s first-half header means he has now scored more times than any other defender and with a single bonus point also in the bag, he moved onto 136 points in the FPL game – 49 points more than any other Liverpool backline option and enough to earn him joint-sixth in the defender standings, despite managing just eight clean sheets thus far. It’s also worth noting that Mamadou Sakho retained his starting berth alongside Skrtel in the heart of the Merseysiders’ back-four in spite of Daniel Agger’s return to fitness.

Gerrard Survives the Tightrope Walk
The Liverpool skipper successfully navigated yesterday’s 90 minutes without picking up a yellow card and no longer has the threat of a two-match ban hanging over him. Gerrard had played four matches since earning his ninth yellow of the season and with the limit now extended from 10 to 15 cautions before triggering a suspension, his owners can now breathe easy ahead for the run-in.

Elsewhere in the Liverpool midfield, Jordan Henderson’s late dismissal comes at a significant cost. The only outfield player to have started every league match this term, he is now set to serve a three-match suspension and will miss games against Norwich, Chelsea and Palace before returning in time for the Gameweek 38 home clash against Newcastle. Brendan Rodgers rolled out a midfield diamond once again yesterday and with Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho grabbing a goal apiece, the Reds boss could turn to Joe Allen or Lucas in the centre as a result of Henderson’s enforced absence.

Sturridge Concern for Reds
Subject to over 91,000 sales last week as managers loaded up on double Gameweek options, the Liverpool forward’s remaining 32% of owners will be anxiously awaiting a fitness update after he was forced off on 65 minutes in yesterday’s match. Brendan Rodgers admitted Sturridge will need monitored after being withdrawn due to a tight hamstring – with two goals in his last seven, many may decide now is the time to sell and look to differentials for the run-in.

Ba the Blues’ Hero Once Again
The Senegal striker was rewarded for firing the midweek Champions League clincher against PSG with a rare starting role for Chelsea’s trip to Swansea. Ba – who last featured in the first XI back in Gameweek 7 – vindicated Jose Mourinho’s decision by grabbing the only goal of a narrow Liberty triumph as the visitors kept their title track on course. Chelsea have a home clash with Sunderland up next but bearing in mind Samuel Eto’o has produced five goals and three assists in his last six at Stamford Bridge, there’d be no real surprise to see Ba back on the bench again, given his manager’s penchant for rotation.

Salah Earns More Game Time
With Eden Hazard missing out due to a calf complaint, Mourinho kept faith with the attacking midfield three that started the previous league encounter. Mohamed Salah, Willian and Andre Schurrle lined up behind Ba before a change in tactics saw the German replaced at the break. Salah is now the only Chelsea attacking midfielder to manage 90 minutes in the last two matches and his domestic game time is clearly benefitting from the fact that he is ineligible to feature in Europe this season. With Norwich and Cardiff also still to play, the young Egyptian – priced at 5.5 in FPL – is looking a real budget option worth considering for the run-in as Mourinho looks to rotate to strengthen his side’s chances of picking up the silverware.

After the game, Chelsea assistant coach Steve Holland gave Hazard’s owners reason for optimism:

“He should be back sooner rather than later, it’s still a little bit too early to say for sure. Having a clear week this week is a big advantage. I can’t stress enough the extra demand the Champions League brings. It’s just what the doctor ordered this week to have the chance to give the players a bit of a break.”

Tigers Through to Wembley Final
Hull are set to face Arsenal in the FA Cup Final after a pulsating 5-3 win over Sheffield United yesterday afternoon. With first-choice frontmen Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long both cup-tied, Steve Bruce handed Yannick Sagbo the chance to lead the line – the Frenchman was amongst the goals, whilst midfield regulars such as Tom Huddlestone (one goal), David Meyler (goal and assist) and Jake Livermore (two assists) all turned in significant contributions. Hull now face a dress rehearsal of the final as Arsenal roll up to the KC this weekend but with a trip to Fulham preceding a double Gameweek 37, their in-form assets are perhaps staking a claim for our consideration.

Its all about next week onwards for Kun 😉

Bringing him in this week was too early imo, even if he does well vs Sunderland, I'd only be happy with bringing him in if he gets 2 or 3 goals.

I'm pretty happy. I have Aguero too. Obviously with hindsight I'd have preferred to have captained Silva...but with one more game to go I'm ok with whatever Lukaku has to offer me.

Jose Mourinho will smell blood. The loss of Henderson is a huge blow to Liverpool and by moving the indefatigable Willian into the centre of his three-pronged attack, the Chelsea manager takes full advantage. Joe Allen is ruthlessly exposed.

Yeah, but Rodgers is no slouch tactically, I'd back him to cover anything Mourinho has planned. Also, just a few days before the game, Chelsea are playing the most physical side in world football, they will be physically battered by Atletico, and I expect them to have a few players knocked and injured, or just plain exhausted. Liverpool will have some problems going into the Chelsea game, but Chelsea could well have more.

I agree with you, and this is the third time I've captained a defender. It's worked for me twice now. I still wouldn't recommend it though because you really go through the mill every time the opposition launch another attack lol.

I think this mindset is just due to defenders having the potential for their gameweeks to be ruined in a second (Losing a goal and a few BP's), Baines is the best defender to captain, but in a single gameweek, it can go wrong very easily. And, even if you do captain him, and his team have a CS in the 89th minute, I'd be terrified myself!

There is still another week to go.

Lukaku over Baines as (c) was always the right play!

Lukaku over Baines as (C) was never the right play, Everton are in good form defensively and Lukaku doesn't score against the weak teams, plenty around here were expecting a blank vs Sunderland for Lukaku.

Having said that, Palace are proving to be decent opposition so Lukaku might actually score and Baines might not get his cleanie, but I still fancied Baines ahead of Lukaku this week.

He's a defender. Sure, it's Baines, but he's still a defender. "Never captain never bench" is sound advice IMO, playing the odds. With 6-point penalties and set-pieces in his locker you never know when and where the points will come from.

Everybody is allowed to make punts though, and to those that do and it paying off good for you, but no way captaining a defender is "good business". It's a huge punt.

Liverpool's defense was well organized and he suffered against the height of skrtel and sakho.

While Moyes has struggled with a fairly insufficient squad this season, what excuses do Chelsea and City have? With their huge squads, vast amounts of money and top managers they've let Liverpool out perform them in the league, a team with a lot less money and arguably not as many "world class" players.

Liverpool had the whole defense out for a long time, specially Enrique, Johnson, Agger and Sakho. In addition to this Gerrard, Coutinho, Sterling, Lucas and Sturridge have been injured for several weeks and Suarez has missed a month. With the depth and spending of City that's a poor excuse for their performance, but not compared to Chelsea of course who had very good season with regards to injuries but still don't play well

Agree on Man City's squad size, but we(CHE) dont have depth in our squad too, look at our bench, not good enough to turn a game, thats why we have to depend/concentrate more on defense rather than attack
In defence, we have Luiz and Cole as backup, DM- Mikel, Ramires, Lampard, Midfield- Schurrle, Salah, Willian who are still learning and forwards- Everyone know how our forwards are
But no Doubt, BR has been impressive, class tactics, I like the way he control and carry on the game

While I'll grant you the strikers the rest I cannot agree with, especially the midfield. Chelsea have an entire second midfield on the bench, plenty of whom would be at least as good if not better than Liverpool mids. Plus, even if these players weren't good enough, the money was there to change it. A lot of questions need to be asked about City and Chelsea, that level of investment and they might lose the league to Pool is simply not good enough in my view.

HOT TOPIC? How to play out the unconvincing ML lead with 4 GWs to go

Much like defending a lead in Augustas, it's a weird mindset defending a lead in your ML. Do you go all out aggression and just play your game, or do you get your rivals drunk at the pub get info out of them and make that sideways transfer to protect your ML lead that you'd never had made without that info. I think it's natural to play unnaturally at this stage with a lead, it's dirty, but it has to be done. What do those of you with a slight lead in your ML do?

What are you looking to happen in Eve vs Cpl?

My guess is most people will have 3 Everton and 1 or 2 from Palace.. 0-0? 5-0? 5-5?

Only Lukaku(c), Coleman & Ward. Don't mind Palace scoring as long as Lukaku does really well.

3-1, Lukaku hattie with at least one Coleman assist and an unlikely goal from Ward. It won't happen, but I can dream 😉

I hope for an Everton CS since I have Baines and Distin but would not mind another haul from Puncheon.
A Baines CS would favor the Baines captainers so not too sure what I want lol

1:0 would be great with Speroni to make 6 saves xD I have Speroni,Puncheon,Distin and Lukaku for that game 🙂 Or better 1:1 with Punch score for Palace and Lukaku assist to Distin for Everton 😀 haha

Wouldn't mind a 2-1 with Baines assists and Lukaku and Puncheon goals. Think it'll be tight though, probably 1-0 Everton.

Definitely advantage Aguero (c) over Lukaku (c). Kun looks nailed to me to get 70 minutes + against the lowly Sunderland at home, whilst Everton will face a hugely defensive Palace. Only concern is Kun does a Messi who seems more focused on the World Cup than putting himself out for his team. I sense a big haul coming from Aguero.

Thanks for the support and bringing hope to the Aguero captainers 😉
If Yaya is out, Pellegrini needs his first choice penalty taker to play so I think Aguero should start, no?

anyone think that if milner had been used more by Pell city might be higher in the league (especially when Nasri was injured)? I really think he has been hard done just because he isnt a marquee signing

Yes, Milner is a fantastic player but has suffered from lack of an exotic sounding name! Mindihno would get more playing time!

Navas hasn't done a great job so I think Milner should have had more chances on the right especially when City were playing 4-5-1.
