Brazil and Mexico both fail to find the net in a goalless Group A draw. Belgium come from behind to get the better of Algeria thanks to goals from Marouane Fellaini and Dries Mertens, while Russia and South Korea play out a 1-1 stalemate in the final match of Round 1:

Belgium Bench the Key to Comeback Win
One down and unable to find a way past a stubborn Algeria rearguard, Marc Wilmots rang the changes to seal a vital win for Belgium. Romelu Lukaku recovered from a knock in time to start up front but lasted less than an hour before being replaced by Divock Origi in a disappointing display, whilst Wilmots’ two other subs, Marouane Fellaini and Dries Mertens, both found the net in a 2-1 triumph. Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard were two of the most popular picks heading into yesterday’s 5pm kick-off and both supplied an assist apiece to get their World Cup accounts up and running.

While the impact of his substitutes will certainly give Wilmots food for thought, the introduction of Fellaini up front is more likely to be Belgium’s Plan B – upcoming opponents Russia surely won’t operate with such defensively-minded tactics as the Algerians next time around.

Feghouli On the Spot for Algeria
The Valencia player arrived on the back of four goals and eight assists in La Liga last term. Favourably priced across the Fantasy games, Feghouli benefitted from penalty duties for the Algerians and spoiled Thibaut Courtois’ clean sheet by slotting home from the spot on 24 minutes to highlight his worth as a budget option. Bearing in mind this was Algeria’s only shot on goal – from a total of three attempts – Vahid Halilhodzic’s side desperately need to improve in the final third, with clean sheets for Russia and South Korea looking a reasonable shout.

In the FIFA McDonald’s game, three of Belgium’s back-four produced five or more recovered balls. Daniel Van Buyten led the way with seven, while Toby Alderweireld and Vincent Kompany made six and five respectively. For Algeria, Nabil Bentaleb and Madjid Bougherra were the standout performers with five apiece.

Brazil held to Mexican Stalemate
Phil Scolari made one enforced change for last night’s match against Mexico, with Ramires replacing the injured Hulk in the front three. Both sides went into this one on the back of victories in their opening matches but the hosts were unable to replicate the form that swept aside Croatia last Thursday, thanks mainly to a defiant display by Guillermo Ochoa between the posts. The Mexican keeper made six saves and denied Neymar owners any Fantasy returns with an outstanding point-blank stop particularly catching the eye. Scolari swapped off both wide men and lone forward Fred later in the match to no avail and the latter’s starting berth may well be called into question for the final match against Cameroon after another poor performance up front.

Mexico were unchanged from the 1-0 win over Cameroon, as Giovanni dos Santos partnered Oribe Peralta up front in a 5-3-2 formation. With back-to-back clean sheets in their opening couple of games, they’ve proven to be far more resilient than perhaps expected and owners of wing-back pair Miguel Layun and Paul Aguilar will be reasonably confident of further returns in their final group game against Croatia.

In the FIFA McDonald’s game, Thiago Silva racked up 10 recovered balls for Brazil, with Luis Gustavo just behind on nine and David Luiz some way back with five. For Mexico, the three centre-halves excelled. Hector Moreno (10), Rafael Marquez (8) and Francisco Rodriguez (six) all stood out, as did Layun (six) and central midfield pair Hector Herrera and Jose Vazquez, who managed six and five respectively.

Kerzhakov Saves Russia’s Blushes
The veteran was, as expected, handed a role on the bench for last night’s clash against South Korea. Fabio Capello opted for Alexander Kokorin up top, with Denis Glushakov benefitting from Roman Shirokov’s injury absence in the centre of the park, though it wasn’t until Kerzhakov’s introduction that Russia were able to make the breakthrough. With Kokorin shifted to the left, Kerzhakov took his place as the lone forward in a 4-3-3 and fired an equaliser just three minute after his introduction to stake a claim for a starting role against the Belgians next time around.

South Korea also had their sub striker to thank. Hong Myung-bo handed Park Chu-young the lone forward role in a 4-2-3-1 but withdrew the Arsenal man just before the hour mark as both sides struggled to find a way through. Replacement Lee Keun-Ho vindicated his manager’s decision by firing the Koreans ahead just nine minutes after arriving on the park and could well be set to lead the line next time around – with Algeria set to provide a stubborn resistance, though, Fantasy interest looks limited.

In the FIFA McDonald’s game, Vasili Berezutski (nine) was Russia best performer for recovered balls. Both full-backs also impressed – Dmitri Kombarov and Andrei Eschenko (who also supplied the assist for Kerzhakov’s leveller) managed six apiece. For South Korean, three of the back-four – Yun Suk-Young (seven), Kim Young-gwon (eight) and Hong Jeong-ho (six) – stood out, as did central midfielders Ki Sung-yeung and Han Kook-yeung, with eight and seven respectively.

Think I'll be having a bet on West Brom to go down this season. What with Alan Irvine appointed manager and their run in I think they'll be a good bet to go down. Alan Irvine sacked mid season with another coming in to try save them is my shout.

Last 5 fixtures: Liverpool (at Home), Man U (Away), Newcastle (Away), Chelsea (Home) and Arsenal (Away). Very tough.

Only 3/1 but worth a dabble imo.

Italy could make three changes to the side that beat England when facing Costa Rica on Friday and move Matteo Darmian.

The Azzurri won their opening World Cup tie 2-1 on Saturday night, playing a 4-1-4-1 formation with Giorgio Chiellini as left-back.

With Milan man Mattia De Sciglio unlikely to be risked from the start after his thigh injury, Cesare Prandelli is looking at other alternatives for that role.

It’s reported he could move Torino’s Darmian over to the left, having been so impressive as right-back against England.

This would allow Ignazio Abate to go on the right and switch Chiellini back into his favoured central position with Leonardo Bonucci probably giving Juventus teammate Andrea Barzagli a rest.

This would mean dropping Gabriel Paletta, as the Parma defender seemed ill-at-ease in Manaus.

Marco Verratti is another player who could be left out against Costa Rica, as he is still recovering from a bout of flu.

He could be replaced by his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Thiago Motta.

Salvatore Sirigu, also of PSG, is almost certain to retain the gloves after Gigi Buffon’s ankle injury.

Italy probable: Sirigu; Abate, Bonucci, Chiellini, Darmian; De Rossi; Candreva, Thiago Motta, Pirlo, Marchisio; Balotelli

Does this seem like a good team in round 2. Playing a different fantasy game, similar to FPL.
    ¤ 3 transfers each round
¤ 3 points extra to each player who wins a game, 1 point for draw
¤ Brazil played 2 times in the first round, so no games this round
Already done Neymar & Sanchez ➡ RVP & Balotelli

Gotze ¤ Muller ¤ Di Maria ¤ KDB

is balotelli really a good choice for arsenal? he isn't exactly the best at link up play, his assist for aguero's title winning goal that season was his only one that year if i remember correctly

also he is not adept at playing anywhere across the forward line, would be a straight pick between him or giroud. I thought wenger wanted someone to complement Giroud?

Griezmann, Drazler, Insigne, Sharaawy, Sanchez, Pedro all better targets imo.

      Yeah, why not?
For example, if we had to play 4-4-2 while chasing a game, Balotelli would be the perfect foil for Giroud. As deadly a finisher we will get for the 20 million mark.

As of the other players you are talking about, none of them are what we actually miss in the team. We don't need no wingers, we need a target-man.

You have a top notch target man already. And if you want a target man, then why do you want Balotelli? He's not target man at all. He's a poacher, and a lazy one as that. Wins incredibly low number of duels (something target man should do), mostly focuses on diving.

And a deadly finisher? If you take off his penalties, his record is quite mediocre. And that's a compliment.

Sure I remember him playing on the right wing at points for Inter.. Not that I'd want or expect him to ever play there for Arsenal..

We need an out and out striker.. Wouldn't agree any of those mentioned would be better targets. The only player I can think would be as good of a choice for the way we play as Balo is Benzema.. If either of them come in I would fully expect them to be replace Giroud as our 1st choice striker (And we should be aiming to replace Giroud as our number 1 striker).

This also gives us the option of bringing Giroud on and having 2 up front if needed in certain games, he looked a lot better in games towards the end of the season when we had him and Sanogo on and that is just Sanogo... In friendlies Giroud + Benzema have looked great on the pitch together and would love to see them both at Arsenal, Balotelli could be similar I'd think and my 2nd choice to Benz.

my understanding of the situation was that arsenal wanted a goalscorer who could play from the left to play with giroud. didn't think you were replacing giroud

That, or a forward who can play either from left or in the middle, so to be able to also rotate with Giroud - Giroud needs some rest too! Good targets, all that you listed. Better than Balo for sure. My favourite would be Rémy, though.

He really would improve you guys a lot. A lot more than Balotelli at least. You guys way underrate Rémy just because he was pushed out of Marseille after an injury plagued year, for financial reasons moreover, and thus ended up signing in QPR. just year before that Arsenal was about to buy him directly.

              Plus, you actually need depth.

5 at the back (with a choice of top defenders) really will be the way to go in the latter stages - less goals and more cagey affairs far more likely. If this scoring system was implemented in the last world cup defenders would be absolutely dominating

Now that we're done with the quiz, can I have a general RMT about my quizzes?
Oops, that'll be a RMQ. So RMQ out of 10. Thanks

If able to change captaincy, then Mandzukic. If not Robben

Notice the post someone just made with the full fixture list got removed, was rather large.

If people are interested I have I've made a GW tracker which is in a shorter format. I wouldn't want to post it for it just to annoy people and it get removed as well.

    It looks like:

Arsenal: CRY, eve, lei, MCI, avl, TOT, che, HUL, sun, BUR, swa, MUN, wba, SOU, sto, NEW, liv, QPR, whu, SOU, STO, mci, AVL, tot, LEI, cry, EVE, qpr, WHU, new, LIV, bur, SUN, CHE, hul, SWA, mun, WBA

If people want other teams posting let me know.

For iTeam so only goals and assists matter:

    Robben or RVP?

RVP but I think I'm gonna try get both. Midfielders are significantly cheaper as well.

        My current plan is:

        Neymar > Robben/RVP
        Robbe/RVP > Benzema
        Benzema > Messi

Current midfield consists of De Bruyne - Di Maria - Muller - Rodriguez (col) with Dzeko as the other man upfront.

Local Fantasy Game .. 35K in the pot .. ranked 13 now.

I have to select players from today's matches with a budget of 120M and 3 players max from each team..

    Australia vs Netherlands
    Chile vs Spain
    Cameroon vs Croatia

    Bravo(2)
    Srna(4) Vrsaljko(2) Janmaat(3) Alba(11)
    Enoh(3) Sánchez(18) Pedro(13) Robben(25)
    RVP(20) Mandzukic(15)

    (3 Dutch, 3 Croatia, 2 Spanish, 2 Chile & 1 Cameroon)

does this look good? any suggestions are much appreciated..

    Thanks!
