FIFA have this afternoon rocked the football world after delivering a verdict on Luis Suarez’ biting incident with Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s win over Italy.

The Footballing body has confirmed that Suarez is not only suspended for nine matches, he is also “banned for four months from any football-related activity”.

In an official statement earlier this afternoon, FIFA also revealed Suarez is unable to even enter a football stadium during the period of the ban and, in a scathing assessment, went on to say:

“Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not at a FIFA World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field. The Disciplinary Committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suárez’s guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Code. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated.”

It’s also been confirmed that Suarez can appeal the decision, though bearing in mind the Chiellini clash was the third time he has sank his teeth into an opponent, it seems unlikely to be successful.

While many had assumed any potential ban would only apply to internationals, FIFA’s decision to include domestic games is a massive blow to Liverpool for the season ahead. Essentially, the Uruguayan will miss the first 10 Gameweeks of 2014/15 before returning to action away to Newcastle on November 1.

Considering the four fixtures prior to the St James’ Park see the Reds entertain Everton, West Brom and Hull, in addition to a trip to QPR, Suarez’ suspension has massive repercussions for Fantasy managers, too. After serving up 30 goals and 25 assists in 2013/14, he will no doubt be afforded the highest price tag of any player right across the Fantasy games but, just like last term, we’ll need to make do without his services after yet another biting incident.

In a brief official statement, the Merseysiders would only say:

“Liverpool Football Club will wait until we have seen and had time to review the FIFA Disciplinary Committee report before making any further comment.”

His absence is likely to make our initial decisions a little easier for the upcoming campaign. Many Fantasy managers were determined to fit both Suarez and Robin Van Persie into their starting squads in light of United’s kind start – acquiring both would take up a considerable chunk of our budgets but FIFA’s stance has at least taken that tricky decision out of our hands.

"The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has reached a decision in the case related to Luis Suárez of Uruguay following an incident that occurred during the FIFA World Cup™ match between Italy and Uruguay played on 24 June 2014.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that:

    · The player Luis Suárez is regarded as having breached art. 48 par. 1 lit. d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) (assault), and art. 57 of the FDC (an act of unsporting behaviour towards another player).

    · The player Luis Suárez is to be suspended for nine (9) official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup™ fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on 28 June 2014. The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay’s next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team’s subsequent official matches in accordance with art. 38 par. 2a) of the FDC.

    · The player Luis Suárez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) months in accordance with art. 22 of the FDC.

    · A stadium ban is pronounced against the player Luis Suárez in accordance with art. 21 of the FDC as follows: the player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban (point 3). The player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium in which the representative team of Uruguay is playing while he has to serve the nine-match suspension (point 2).

    · The player Luis Suárez is ordered to pay a fine in the amount of CHF 100,000.

The decision was notified to the player and the Uruguayan FA today.

The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated,” said Claudio Sulser, chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee."

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

How will Luis Suarez's ban affect your planning for the forthcoming Premier League season. Does this make Daniel Sturridge a shoo-in? Or is Rickie Lambert now firmly on your radar.

Does this make RVP an even bigger target? Is that good? Or is it bad with RVP (c) set to be the norm without another heavy hitter like Suarez in the frame to break up the template?

True - So am I tbh. I also have scars from SEB when Wolves got promoted. But he makes the rest of your team more affordable. Plus, he has good home fixtures to start with.

Hard to say at the moment - but what we can assume is that FPL Towers will compensate for this news with an adjustment to the pricing. I expect RVP/Sturridge/Aguero/Rooney/Lambert to be priced higher than originally planned - which may make them overpriced once Suarez comes back. Assuming he stays in the EPL, of course.

      Scenario 1: RVP+ Suarez
      Scenario 2:Rvp only
      Scenario 3 : Suarez only

This ban killed 1 & 3 ,now all that is left is to build team around RVP which is pretty bad FPL wise

RVP (c) will be standard. With a 14m Suarez it created a nice divide in teams. Now the template is already taking shape even before the first kick of the first pre season friendly.

There will still be a decision to be made to go with RVP and hamper the rest of your team, or go without and be able to distribute cash elsewhere - the pricing should enforce this choice.

He can go for a run or to the gym and even play football in the park - Fifa have no jurisdiction over his private life - but he won't be able to train with the team, as he could last year. So I think he's unlikely to be staright back on the pitch scoring goals when the ban ends.
