We continue our series of articles for members focusing on the player Key Performance Indicators (KPI). This time around, we delve into the data to discover those forwards who favoured home comforts over 2013/14 and also assess the more consistent strikers who produced the same sort of attacking threat regardless of fixture.

For the unfamiliar, these Key Performers Indicator (KPI) tables are designed to use a series of key stats to allow our members to track form or change in player performance. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics and comparing over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain each player’s form, whether it be an improvement or decrease in displays on the pitch. As mentioned in last summer’s introductory article, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

Personally don't like having more than one defender from the same team. Also it's a good idea to maybe have at least 1 Chelsea and Arsenal player in Mid or Attack considering their opening fixtures aren't too hard
      .
Maybe a cheaper defence could also mean you're stronger elsewhere. Could open to option of rotating someone like Wanyama for an Eriksen or a Valencia for a Giroud.

Depends who LVG names captain. I think if he goes with RVP, Rooney will have a strop. He'll be thinking about how much time he's been at MU compared to RVP and not be happy one bit, especially with Rooney coming out saying how eager he is to be named captain

Tough call because both their early fixtures aren't easy. I would maybe say Sanchez because worst cast scenario you can down downgrade to Hazard even if his price goes up.

With no context on how Sanchez will adapt to the prem or how Hazard will link up with Fab/Costa it's hard to say who will get more points.

In the case of punty new signings at mid table sides, I tend to lean towards the midfielder having the better chance of hitting the ground running (a lot of new mid table strikers seem to flop) and also it's less of a punt as you're using one of 5 mid slots instead of one of 3 forwards.

Keeper combo? Just no. Yeah, these two rotate well, but did you see the fixtures?

Defence. 6.0,6.0 and 5.0. Erm, that's costly, but will reap rewards.

Midfield. You have Ramsey and Fabregas as your 'premium' midfielders. Don't you think both being holding midfielders makes it a little drab potential-wise?

I'm not worried about the fixtures with those two goalkeepers...they will rack up the save points especially Mannone... And at 4.5 they are the cheapest and best playing options.

Shaw is the only question mark I have here, haven't seen much attacking potential in preseason yet, might drop him for a 5.0 like Davies.

Ramsey and Fab will be amongst the points I'm sure, Ramsey especially looked lively in preseason so far...

And I agree it's template here, but they simply offer the best value....might look to draft in Sturridge though

        Thanks for the reply !

If that Potter is genuine and Cameron is nailed on (in midfield) as he says then that's significant given the Mariappa situation. Apart from GW3, you can play him every week till about GW10.

Where'd you get that from mate? Would be absolutely brill for me.

Doubt it though. N'nonzi, Ireland, Sidwell, Adam, Arnauotivc, Odemwengie, Bojan, not sure there's space for a defender to go into midfield. He'll probably be up against the first 3.

      Hi there!

Doesn't this just mean that Cameron realises he will struggle to get into the defence and that midfield is his best chance of getting a game, not that he will be nailed on?

I agree. Plus the fact he's not very good makes me believe he won't be nailed on,

In my experience it's always better to spend a little bit extra with Stoje defenders, got burned by Wilson too many times in the past. Pieters or Huth is the way to go.

Looking at Everton's squad, he'd be the perfect fit. He's essentially a better, more clinical Lukaku.

I looked over Liverpool's players ownership percentage, quite impressive stats.
Sturridge unsurprisingly comes with a hefty 31%, Sterling 16%, Lallana 12% however I was surprised with Lambert's high perc. 11.2 for a backup striker is a huge risk, Gerrard at only 6% despite he takes care of ALL setpieces while Coutinho who Rodgers praised him and most likely gonna be handed the no.10 role is only at 3.5%
what's reason behind these stats? Is it cause of the fixtures or cause some other players provide similar quality and better price?

At this stage, most people are going only by last seasons scores and Lambert looks a great buy at this price.
Come closer to the start of the season, people will put some actual thought into their selections and the percentages will be much different.

      Thats my opinion anyway.

      3-5-2

      Begovic (Flappyhandski)
      Debuchy/Shaw/Luis (C.Davies/Taylor)
      Hazard/Mata/Eriksen/Siggy/Arnautovic
      Rooney/Dzeko (Barnes)

Sanchez is a top class striker playing in an attacking role for an attacking team.

Yaya had a good season and is pretty clinical but im betting he drops off a bit this season.

Of course you can argue either way as people have been doing and will continue to right to the start of the season

Is anyone here considering avoiding getting a cheap 5th mid? I'm thinking going with a solid front 8 where Siggy is my cheapest player. The main reason is simply because we have no idea who will be the surprise budget attacker this season, its a pure lottery to try and guess before GW1. My plan is to wait for the ideal budget midfielder to reveal themselves then I'll simply downgrade my worst performing midfielder to that player.

hmmm rotate formation based on fixtures? because your entire front 8 is playable

Yeah I doubt I'll go with this, was just experimenting to see what I could do.

Man, every .5 I can save here and there in my team is so important - having a 5th mid worth 6m is a terrible idea. In the same line of thinking you can just transfer your underperforming 5th mid for a decent one. Realistically though you'll never do that because your 5th mid spot is usually useless. Don't do that.

I never said Siggy would be my 5th mid. The plan is to rotate my big 8 according to fixtures at the beginning, then when a viable budget 5th mid becomes available I'll simply downgrade one of my players to that must have 5th mid. Barkley and Sterling are examples in previous seasons of players who came from out of the blue after a couple of weeks. Nobody had those players in their GW1 team.

Barkley was terrible after his first few weeks last year. Regardless I still think it's a bad idea. I don't mean to be a killjoy but it's not a good FPL strategy. Just get your big hitters in and have a cheap 5th mid who'll probably played 4 times in a whole season max.

Barkley was good in the sense that he made me a lot of cash through price rises. Sterling and Adam (when he was at Blackpool) are examples of how a 5th mid can be useful. I don't prescribe to the useless 5th mid strategy.

Not the worst idea. I'm going with an early wildcard anyway, so it seems unnecessary for me though.

the thing is you have cash on the bench each week and you "need" to use up a free transfer to carry out your plan...but there's no certainty this will work...you don't know when this mythical cheap attacker will become obvious...injuries elsewhere may well scupper your plans

the template pricing structure is popular for a reason...it usually works well

We all need to use a free transfer after 2 weeks. So I see no problem with this, unless there is a problem in defence of course, however that would probably have to be because of an injury.

I see what you mean but you're not thinking through properly (in my opinion)

            (a) 2 weeks with cash on the bench
            (b) you might get a defensive injury that needs sorted
            (c) transfer window still open might mess you up
            (d) are you going to buy this hot cheap player and then bench him?...if YES why bother?...if NO then you've still got cash on the bench in gw3 and perhaps beyond

              (a) I don't mind a bit of cash on the bench, rotating mid priced assets according to fixtures isn't all that bad.

              (b) yes thats true, but point (a) remains

              (c) I'll have to be careful but the transfer window affects every FPL player so I don't see how it specifically relates to my situation.

              (d) I'm happy to bench him but its nice to know that when needed he can step up and be a threat unlike useless players like Britton. Its particularly useful when you have a player out injured for one game so it means I don't need to urgently make a transfer.

I'm probably playing 3-5-2 with Siggy as my cheapest mid, and this is the exact reason why I'm taking that approach.

Not quite the same as what I'm suggesting. I'm guessing you'll have a budget striker instead? I'm looking to go with no budget attacker simply because there are no standout options. I'd rather wait for a standout option to reveal themselves in that budget category as we have seen in previous seasons.

Now that you've brought up the budget forward options in, do you prefer going Bent or Fletcher as your 3rd striker?! My mids are a bit pricey..

Yea, sitting on Weimann with 40.5 invested in midfield but it's all up in the air.

            Are you suggesting something like:

            5 4.5
            6.5 4.0 5.5 5.0 4.5
            9.0 9.0 7.0 6.5 6
            10.5 8.5 8.5

            It could easily be done.

I think you're probably onto something. Saves the WC to ride cheap bandwagons that'll rise in price and you can tinker with that price structure quite easily.
