The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen’s inclusion was reliant on his move to Manchester United, which now looks to have fallen through. Who should he replace him with?

He concedes Charles N’Zogbia is a huge punt in midfield. Is it a gamble too far? Alexis Sanchez is an insurance policy and he feels he can easily downgrade the Arsenal midfielder to his cheaper team mate Aaron Ramsey.

      Manquillo is a risk, especially considering Pool's fixtures and that he is not nailed on. Otherwise solid 8/10 team.

      Azpi- too many ? over Chelsea defence. Downgrade him and use any extra on upgrading Hendo or your 4.5 mid to Hoilett

        I like Everton's fixtures more than most seem to and fancy them to stuff Leicester first game. Other option is Lovren?

        I'm ok with Chambers in the short term, he'll start and give a chance of price rises if he keeps a cleanie v CPL. We'll see but it's a good point.

      don't like your midfield at all, needs more mata and ramsey

      i dont think skrtel is a good pick either because you'll be relying on him scoring, also having two 4.0 defs isn't ideal either

      pelle a risk too with all the change at soton and first season syndrome

    After good advice on here have settled on this so RMT please-

    Bego/ Elliot
    Evans/Debuchy/Baird/Hutton/ Moore
    Ramsey/Hazard/Marney/Mata/Sterling
    Costa/Rooney/Austin

    -I know 3x4.0' defenders is bad but happy to downgrade Debuchy later to a nailed on 4.5 and then one of the 4.0's to another 4.5
    - Sterling could later become Siggy if i want Ramsey to Sanchez or Mata/Hazard to Toure
    - Moore could be Bruce

    Any thoughts and comments welcome

        Thanks for comment but going to try ultra cheap defence this year, would do Debuchy to a 5.0 and then one of the 4.0s to a 4.5

            It is bargain basement i agree!! Debuchy to a 4.5 later is definitely on my mind and use the rest to upgrade defence. Just happy to wait a bit to see if Marriapa/Collins/ Cameron claim a starting spot. Cheers for input

              I think Fab may actually be a better pick than Haz anyway, irrespective of price. He will be on free kicks and is expect Costa to be on pens. I don't think Haz is worth 1m more anyway

    Thinking of making a few changes here. Here’s the team followed by some thoughts. Any advice appreciated!

    GW1:
    De Gea (Krul)
    Cahill / Koscielny / Jones
    Hazard / Sterling / Eriksen / Siggy (Albrighton)
    Rooney (VC) / Diego Costa (C) / Bojan

    0 in bank

    Now, was considering upgrading Sterling to Mata. Resulting in having to get rid of Jones and freeing up .5 million in the process. Any, thoughts as to who might be a good addition to the team (can’t be ManU as that would exceed 3 players) for 5 mil? Also, Ivanovich has been having a great preseason as well as Terry. Thoughts on exchanging Cahill to Ivanovich or Terry?

      You dont need Krul if you have De Gea, change him to any 4 Gk, also you can switch Kos to Debuchy which would free up cash to upgrade Cahill if you want or improve your bench.

      Looks good only problem is you'll be putting too much faith in QPR since you'll play Green and Caulker. Also I believe there are better options than AJ

        The only problem with Punch and Mutch for me is that i'll have 3 CRY or 3 QPR players. I think AJ will be big for S'land this year and I'm ready to take a punt, but any other suggestions are more than welcome. Thank you both for your input.

      If you have any 4.0 mil keeper then you should have a no.1 that is nailed on every week regardless of fixture. ie DDG, szceszny, lloris etc

          well matas the best cam in the league .. for the start of fantasy .. But second best would be Ramsey ..

          Terry might score 5 goals this season but means nothing if he only plays 15 games

          Release baines and terry .. Get Cahill and Evans/jones
          Still have money to upgrade Coutniho ..(hard start to the season)
          Marković once fit might be 1st choice as an actual winger

      Sterling more secured starts, nasri is nice punty differential might pay off big time or not.

    Could switch Simpson for Chambers short term but I've a feeling I'll be wanting transfers elsewhere first few weeks. Or Azpi to Debuchy or Evans to free up £0.5m.

      Simpson might lose his spot. Azpi and Luis might be fighting for the same position in the squad. You could downgrade Sanchez to Ramsey to free up funds if you need

        Chelsea's defensive options:
        Azpi / Cahill / Terry / Luis
        Azpi / Ivan / Terry / Luis
        Azpi / Ivan / Cahill / Luis
        Ivan / Cahill / Terry / Luis
        Ivan / Cahill / Terry / Azpi

        Basically I think Jose will rotate these options pretty much equally. 60% of the time both Azpi and Luis should play, the remaining 40% at one will play. Over the course of the season I can't help feeling that the points difference between this combination and any other £12m combination of 2 defenders will be marginal.

    Thoughts on my team?

    I currently have:

    Begovic-Krul
    Davies-Wisdom-Luis-Ward-Debuchy
    Lamela-Ramsey-Hazard-Sigurdsson-Aluko
    Jovetic-Rooney-Bony

    According to my calculations based on expected goals from last season, if Jovetic had played a full season the way he played the few minutes he had, he could have scored more goals than Suarez. Similarly, Aluko does decently if played and has played well in preseason. He is registered as a Mid in FPL, but gets played up front. My only concern is that he won't get played.

    Thoughts?
    Also is there a better option than Lamela or Davies?

      Aluko is an interesting one, will keep an eye on him. Eriksen could be a better option than Lamela, but a bit tit or tat at the moment.

    Particulary i could switch to 343, 352, 442, 433 or even 451..

    I still thinking I could try to downgrade Baines to the likes of another 5.5 mil defender and upgrading Isgrove to Young 5.5 or Siggy or another 6 mil midfielder.. Or i downgrade Baines to Ben Davies at 5 mil and upgrade Henderson to Coutinho/Eriksen/Lamela at 8 mil..

    While at the attacks I think its the best possible combo I could get...

    Any insight guys??

    but considering making it a bit more balanced:

    - Ramsey, Fabregas, Mata, Siggy + Mirallas/ Barkley/ Eriksen
