The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

The next up is our fixtures specialist Roscola.

Begovic – (Gilks)
Azpilicueta – Evans – van Aanholt – (Wisdom – Bartley)
Mata – Fabregas – Ramsey – Sterling – Sigurdsson
Rooney – Costa – (Zamora)

Roscola admits his team has a major flaw in that it is potentially benchless. He says though that he’s happy for QPR striker Bobby Zamora never to play, because this is a 3-5-2 that reverts to four at the back for first sub. He believes that there are more points available in the budget bracket in defence than further upfield. Sticking with this basic strategy he is looking for advice to find extra funds to invest in his bench. Downgrading Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas to Manchester City’s Samir Nasri is one option he is considering.

          4.5. He has been playing pre season.

          Basically I looked for someone who I recognise but who has very low ownership.

          That way his price wont drop when casuals dump him en masse by GW3:-)

        Kaboul always gets injured or begins to play rubbish. Never plays a whole season. Also word is he's on the chopping block. I'd avoid.

        Well you better hope YYT and Sanchez start tearing it up from GW1 itself. Personally will stay away from city for couple of weeks. They looked undercooked in the community shield. Gomis is sure to start?

      I'd take Moore over Bartley as Bartley will have lost his place after the Fernandez signing. I don't think Obertan will start so i would go for Marney instead the rest looks really nice and I love the Sturridge pick early doors. Only thing that scares me is Fab as I feel he might not play in the hold and too far deep in the pitch

        Thanks. Will check on the defence. On Obertan I don't intend to play him at all but see your point.

        Chelsea MF vexes me also. Toying between Sturridge/Fab and Costa/Sterling.

      I only like Lamela in games where he's available at a discount. When they're both £8m, I have to go with Eriksen.

      I had Fab in my team for a while until friendlies indicated he may be in more of a holding role than I expected. Switched to Oscar for a diff, but ultimately couldn't ignore Haz. Not sure where you'd find the funds though. Maybe Fab/Ramsey/Studge > Haz/Sterling/Costa?

      Seen a bit of speculation that PVA may be nursing an injury, not sure if there's any truth to it. I'm staying away from Sunderland for the time being in any case.

        Jokes apart I am not sold on Hazard. Was dire in world cup. Fab will find a way to be in points.
        Jose commented that team will change to adopt to Fab.

      Dzeko over Giroud surely. Or Jovetic if you want to punt.

              Pretty good. Azpi sure to start? I have no idea about Chelsea

              Why not Hendo over siggy? People are swayed by nostalgia and going for siggy methinks. It is not same Swansea anymore. Different manager and if they sell Bony, then that team will struggle early on.

              Also I have gone Lamela over Eriksen. More upside I think.

                Lamela is a dodgy one, hardly had a kick last season and Eriksen is on set pieces plus having a decent run under Sherwood last half of season!

      I am not a fan of Bojan, but can understand the temptation.

      What's your plan if he fails in the 1st 2-3 games. Surely you won't have patience enough to keep him, will you..? 😉

        Cheers - I've gone Beg/Krul to allow me to get 3 outfield Utd players.

        I'm not convinced on Bojan at all, but like the set up with a cheap striker currently. Maybe switch to Fletcher if he doesn't work out?

          That's why I am not fan of cheap strikers, as if they fail it is not easy to find a replacement and very possible that the ones who will be performing much better will be out of your budget range. Even if someone like Jovetic, Bony, etc will start scoring as hell, you'd need like 3m to cover a price distance.

            Very true. I'm thinking that each week I'll bench 2 of Bojan, Chester and Ferdinand and then play the other, rather than relying on Bojan

      Premium defence. so you are set on 4-3-3 most weeks?

      Would drop Kolarov as City defence could be leaky early on.

        I think I'll switch formations depending on fixtures, one of my heavy hitters in defense might have a poor fixture so I could play Siggy over one of them instead and vice versa with Fletcher included so i'd say i'm pretty flexible with my formation.

      I take it this is a reply fail to me, I actually love the Kolarov selection, i've compared every possible attacking statistic between Kolarov and every other attacking fullback in the prem and Kolarov comes out miles ahead of everyone, the kind of points production he puts up when he plays is incredible with such great attacking potential and coming from a side with a solid backline he can be expected to keep cleansheets as well as rack up BPS. He is even supposed to play much more than last year in terms of rotation and he still did play a far amount last year. Plus there is no other feeling like seeing king kolarov's name on the team sheet after risking selecting him!

      Looks good but i would pick someone other than Chambers at 4.5. You're just going to end up wasting a transfer on him once Mert is back or highly likely you'd be down to 2 defenders. I'm easing off Chelsea defenders at the moment - i just feel attackers will start strong this season

          Yeah Giroud will play. But how about Chelsea striker or MF? Costa will require lot of surgery but you should look at Fab. Even Terry is a rotation risk.

        Have you had a look at the fixtures? Too much Stoke is intentional. My concern at the moment is too much Swansea, especially if I drop Arnie for Siggy after Swans matchup with United.

          Let's assume I swap Ki for Mutch as NTFMichu suggests below, to ease off on Swans a bit.

          Wouldn't you prefer Arnie home to Villa over Siggy at United? I don't expect Bojan to be a weekly starter, and Begovic may be my only Stoke player before long, but this opening fixture seems too easy, no?

        I like Isla for now given the possibility that the new bonus system may reward his wing play more than Caulker's occasional headed corners. I'll keep an eye on it.

          No problem and yeah I understand the Isla love especially at 5.0 when we all though he would be a 5.5 mid but I think I read on here somewhere that Caulker had the most touches in the box out of any defender last season for Cardiff so just keep that in mind

      I think henderson will do well this season, but not fantastically so. Just seems to me like you're going for Liverpool "coverage" here and feel that Sterling is worth the premium.

      Would stick with a 3-4-3 to start personally.

        You are right about wanting to have Liverpool coverage but Sterling meant something like

        Sterling + A Young or 5.5

        And I prefer

        Erikson + Siggy or Henderson

      You'll definitely be benching points. Chambers + Vlaar > 4.0, Fabregas/Eriksen> sub 5.0, and upgrade Bojan imo.

      PVA over Vlaar and Cameron, Chambers and Mariappa are all not nailed. Go for for Clyne, Naylor/Rosenior and Moore instead of those three

      Chambers is a cheap and reliable source of points till Kos and Mert get healed up, so nice there.

      Cahill > Terry according to basically everyone.

      I'm not positive, but aren't the subs looking a wee bit weak?

        Really? Why is Cahill better than Terry? Will he play more you mean?

        Bench is weak indeed but I like Southampton's games after Liverpool so hopefully Isgrove is a starter, he looks pretty good so far! Wisdom and Hutton rotate home/away perfectly and are only 4.0m and should start the season. DDG will be my keeper for first 8 GW's at least which is probably around the time I'd wildcard anyway. I rotated last year with keepers and it wasn't a great option.

        I'm not sure about that. I've seen him alongside Costa in a fair few.

        On some set pieces and is an assist magnet. Obvious goal threat too.

      I'd have Evans over Debuchy, not that the frenchman isnt a good pick (I have him myself) but I feel like ManUnited coverage is more necessary and i'd go for PVA over O'Shea

      think you've over invested in defence by 1m, try to shave that off and do Eriksen > Mata? Mata is playing in his preferred position, good fixtures over the first 8-10 games so no headaches save for injury.

    Rooney, Dzeko, (Sanogo)

    I have 0.5M more to either upgrade keeper, a 4M defender to a 4.5M, such as O'Shea, Vlaar, or Cameron, or upgrade my bench striker to a 5.5M (Nugent, Bojan, Naismith, Weimann, Fletcher, etc). sanogo looks good preseason but I don't think he will get the start from Giroud until he proves himself.

      Definetly upgrade Sanogo. He won't start, you never know when an injury occours and somebody falls out. You need a playing striker.

    Allright, after a days of tinkering, here's my first RMT. Comments welcome 😉

    Begovic - Krul
    Evans - Ward - PVA - Duff - Wisdom
    Ramsey - Mata - Sterling - Eriksen - Siggy
    Rooney - Costa - Bojan

    0.5 in the bank. Plan is to rotate Bojan and Siggy.
    Possible dilemas:
    Sterling -> Fabregas (maybe after GW 1 but we all know how it is with planned transfers)
    Bojan -> Fletcher OR Wickham (both proven in PL but slightly tougher fixtures, also don't rotate that well with Siggy)
