The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

      Not bad! But do you think it's worth investing in Clyne with all the changes at Southampton? I fear they will let in a few goals in the first few weeks.

      Will you be playing Rodwell much? He probably won't have a killer season and you could save 0.5 to invest elsewhere!

    Your time giving a RMT is appreciated:

    Begovic (Gilks)
    Baines-Evans-Debuchy (Wisdom)
    Mata-Ramsey-Siggy-Sterling (Elmouhamady)
    Rooney-Costa-Murray

    I know Baines is expensive, but with the CS potential from Howard and the PK/FK possibilities, I'm OK dropping 7.0 for him. Same for Murray as he is listed as a PK taker for CP...Let's hope they get to the area.

    Last year my back ups never played. Changing that this year... 🙂

    I like my midfield, but can't help but think Hazard has something to prove after Brazil and will be on fire from the start.

    What am I missing?

    Finally, I joined yesterday and probably read 10 pages of RMT posts & responses and changed my team at least that many times. A great deal of smart info here! Thanks.

      DEF: 8.5/10
      MID: 8/10
      FWD: 6.5/10

      Overall: 7.5/10

      Notes: Murray not nailed on. Stoke aren't tight at the back any more. Baines is good for GW1 but fixtures are tough after. Midfield is strong.

    Looking for some advice on this draft

    Begovic - Gilks
    Cahill - Debuchy - Mariappa/Kelly - (4.0 - 4.0)
    Ramsey - Fabregas - Mata - Sterling - (Isgrove)
    Rooney - Costa - Bojan

    Fairly balanced, taking the gamble on Bojan
    Could upgrade Fabregas to Hazard but his pre-season has me monitoring him for the first few weeks
    Not sure about Sterling could swap out for Eriksen

      Some interesting choices in there.

      Likes: Begovic, Cahill, Lovren, Ramsey, Fabregas, Eriksen, Rooney

      Doubts: Debuchy (settled in yet?), Davies (will he play ahead of Rose?) Dzeko (Just didn't look at the races in the community shield), Henderson (will his game be one of assisting the assister?)

      Dislikes: Moore (just because the Leicester opening fixtures are pants, but on the upside, he seems to be nailed on), Young (what is your thinking on this one?) Pelle (too soon to say, but could be worth a gamble) ...

        Henderson what I've seen pre-season is going to play a more forward role (well that's my thinking )

        Young I can see playing for the first few weeks and hes had a great pre-season in new role as a wb
        ( if he loses he's place iv'e got a few 5.5 in mind)
        Dzeko is in till Giroud is up to speed (but your right he was poor sunday)

        Moore is really just bench fodder but I needed someone who would be playing and cheap

            All good thinking so you should stick with it. When your choices are based on reasoning it's a well to go with it, otherwise when you change about and one of your differentials does well (it might be Pelle!) you'll be kicking yourself.

          202 points last season, he's a season keeper anyway. So unless you would want to captain him most weeks then that inconsistency is nothing to worry about in my opinion.
          Should remain on pens too so thats a huge plus.

          Austin's value has diminished since Remy is still a QPR. Perhaps consider Jelavic now that Shane Long is out of the picture.
          In general, I find it generic due to the high ownership of all your starters. I though Rent A Wag would have a slightly more exciting squad, at least on defense. Does Hutton even have a hot WAG?

            One of the main reasons behind picking Austin is that he's on pens, and I'm not sure Jelavic is the first choice for the spot kicks... Ideally I would like my 3rd striker to be better (Jovetic/Dzeko/Bony stand out to me atm), but I can't find the money without weakening too much other parts of the team.
            As for the ownership, I'm not too kind on picking too many punts at the start of the season, it cost me in the past.
            I checked, and it seems Hutton has a pretty decent WAG

    With Evans potentially injured hows a switch to Fonte look? viable? Not sure I've seen him on any teams here, just wondering why? only real other option at that price seems to be Jones but I'm not overly convinced by him tbh.

    Only thing I'm not too happy about is triple Man United. But are there better options than Mata and Young at those prices for the next 5 or so GW's?

      You can always downgrade Sturridge to a 7-8.5 forward, get Sterling and upgrade Young to a better midfield. Also, Cameron is not nailed on and you defence needs a little upgrade.

      Wouldn't worry about triple Man U given fixtures and pre-season, but the trio of Hendo, Siggy and Young will give you selection headache. I would prefer to downgrade one of them to upgrade one of the others. Otherwise one of the best teams I've seen with that front three (bar Cameron as mentioned by MS).

        Ok, I've done some changes:

        Begovic inn for Krul (Bego is much better than Krul)
        Cahill inn for Kolarov (Parking the buss)
        Henderson inn for Barkely (Henderson has had an exellent pre season)

        Sub:
        El Ahmedi inn for Shelvey. (A sub that will play almost every game)

      GK is a bit weak, Krul+0.5 gets you Begovic.

      Davies will be rotated, also Kolarov can be downgraded.

      Not sure about Barkley, might get Puncheon and upgrade somewhere else.

        Thanks for the advice. Did think my defence was a bit suspect. Young has been in and out of my team. Would never have been in if it wasn't for his pre season form. Was also torn between lamela and eriksen. I think lamela will be great this season. Think the new system will suit him perfectly.

          Good team. Your GK are fine as their fixtures match and are cheap. I personally would swap lovren and debuchy for davies(spurs & mangala or luis(luis is better option with handy fixtures) Vlaar is a miss as aston villa are one of the weakest sides in the prem when it comes to defence, and their starting fixtures definitely dont help. So I would advise you to swap for either O'shea or Cameron who both have easy fixtures. I'd personally swap Sterling and Bojan for Eriksen and Jelavic/Long

    I'd be concerned about Cameron and De Jong. Other than that looks good. Remy ousting Austin is a situation worth keeping an eye on though.

    I like your team a lot. In fact, I'm sure I've had the exact same players as some point.

    de Jong is likely to be injured for the first game, so I'd downgrade him, upgrade Austin, and play Siggy.

    Hm the trouble with that team is that there is a lot of punts, and if they dont come off you're going to be wildcarding very early.

    Shaw told hes not fit, De Jong unproven and carrying an injury, Lamela an unknown quantity after a poor season, Siggurdson perhaps playing on the wing, Costa unproven in Prem and the same with Austin.

    I'd consider getting Fabregas/Hazard for De Jong and doing Costa --> Giroud. two proven prem players there. In defence, Shaw to Luis/Azpil seems logical too.

      He has gone under the radar but under the new manager could be a upgrade of LLalana for an extra 0.5 , if you have it going spare maybe have a look at him

    A little advice please guys. Currently:

    Krul / Foster

    Evans / F.Luis / Wisdom / PVA / NTaylor

    Mata / Hazard / Ramsey / Siggy / Hendo

    Costa / Rooney (c) / Bojan.

    - Swans/Stoke rotation 352/343.

    However i'm concerned on the lack of Liverpool coverage. Do you think i should:

    A. Keep the above.
    B. Hazard/Hendo > Sterling/Eriksen.
    C. Hazard/Hendo > Sterling/Coutinho.

      Good

      but personally I dont like the Foster/Krul combo. I know it looks good on paper with rotation and even has some stats backing it, but I dont trust any of those team for CS home or away.
      I would upgrade or rather put in green/murphy on a 0,5 discount to use elsewhere.
      But thats just my opinion ofcourse 🙂

    Thoughts on my team:

    De Gea, Gilks
    van Aaanholt, Debuchy, Cahill, Davies, Wisdom
    Ramsey, Erkisen, Sigurdsson, Mata, El Ahmadi
    Diego Costa, Rooney, Pelle

    Quite happy, my concerns are Davies and Wisdom ? Would it be better to have two 4.5 defenders who rotate well ?

      Solid team. I'd say Fletcher is the best 5.5 striker, especially with those fixtures and questions over Wickham's future.

      Like the Siggy/Arnau rotation. Are you sure on Fletcher or he will rotate in 3-5-2?

        Fletcher is the best striker for me at 5.5m. I don´t buy the Bojan hype. Also Fletcher is on PK.

        My idea would be to rotate, some weeks I would play 3-5-2 and in others 3-4-3 (gw1 with siggy at united for example, he would be on my bench).
